Well, one of four things is going to happen with this thread.
1. Seller is going to claim all the negativity in the thread has caused him to remove the item from bidding.
2. Seller is going to be shown to be a fraud when he cannot produce a non-photoshopped screenie of him with the BPO in his hold, or he finds a plethora of excuses why he cannot show it to a neutral third party in a trade window.
3. Seller is going to sell the item for an assload of money, and down the road it's going to be discovered the item is stolen from a corp or otherwise dubiously obtained, causing GM's to get involved.
4. Seller is going to sell the item, make a boatload of isk, and move on.
I've got to say I try to be an optimist, but out of all of these there is only one "good" outcome. If the item is real, and it is sold, I only hope that the buyer is someone with the courage to undercut all of the people who are currently gouging prices to the extreme.
Selling an item for 10-15 million, which costs less than a million to produce, is either greed personified or the reality of a free market. I reckon it all depends on your point of view.

I'm sorry to say, that for what this BPO will end up selling for, they will have no choice but to maintain the market trend if they have any hope of recouping their investment. What we really need is for another one of these BPO's to drop from a research agent so that person will have no real investment in it already and can afford to charge a more modest price.

I dont want people to know where bpo is located. Would you want that if you had a valuable BPO?

Edited by: Psychopath on 30/12/2004 13:46:10 Everyone needs to think this through slowly and carefully.
Atm Cap recharger 2's are extremely expensive and the monopoly is hated by a lot of players. The "good" way to lower this price is to fake the release/sale of another bp onto the free market to threaten the monopoly.
This character is an alt who is not providing any details and no good screenshots. Therefore compared with legit auctions we can assume he does no have the item and is pulling a stunt.
I think everyone should stop bidding and ignore this pathetic attempt to reduce prices.
By economic theory the easiest way to lower the price of an item is to reduce demand at the high price so a new price equilibrium is reached where the supplier can sell all his goods.
Therefore if somebody wants to stop high prices, try not buying the goods and make the suppliers suffer. A Corp 1 pirate I was meant to be, trim the sails and roam the sea |

Nothing to lose here... the auction might be real afterall. And i honestly don't care if the BPO was really stolen, but kept quiet by the corp.
I bid 20 billion isk.

However, demand is inelastic and supply is short... High prices will prevail until more of the things are produced or people decide to lower the monopolistic price. There is no real market equilibrium since people will always pay more to be 'better' than the next player
The same thing works for dimonds and opec oil in rl.... |

The supply is not short. It is the cartel keeping buffer stocks to keep prices high. This is the same situation with the diamond market (in which diamonds are not rare but are still expensive because of controlled supply). It is also untrue to simply say the demand is inelastic. In the short run yes it is quite inelastic with people having to pay the high prices. However, there are substitutes to cap recharger 2's and different setups which means in the long run people can move away from the cap rechargers and demand is more elastic.

I'm not getting involved in economic arguements since i do enough of it at work. End of the day though if you buy it, and it exists, you have a huge percentage of a monopolistic market.... |

Why would you bother wasting SERIOUS isk earning time by having a BPO like this in research ffs; it is not as if you are working to tight profit margins.
Starsi dont make Eve Pilots, but if they did, i wouldnt be one of them. |
