This is not a whine thread of any kind, by posting this i hope to open up the possibility to discuss possible changes to improve the current overloading system.
Managing overloading is imo too difficult because the interface is to hard to control. Overloading is a key factor, especially when it comes to pvp. It's a real shame controlling this feature is so hard. I believe usability of this feature can be easily improved by implementing some small changes.
From my understanding there are currently 2 ways to overload modules:
1) Clicking the 'tiny' green bar above modules. 2) Assigning shortcuts to overload specific slots.
The green bar is simply too small, its too hard to click and assigning a shortcut to every single slot ins't ideal either. I think this is a serious problem because in this case the interface doesn't allow the player to take full control.
Why not introduce a shortcut the same way we can use 'control' + 'click' on an object to lock it, but for overloading. Say 'alt' + 'click' on module will toggle overload?
Another problem i noticed with the interface is when you overload a module the green bar will light up. But the green bar doesn't light up before the next cycle of the module. For me this causes confusion, it's already hard to click the green bar and then when it doesn't light up sometimes i'm just not sure its overloading or not.
Why not light up this green bar directly after clicking it? or give it a different color say yellow when you click it and when the next cycle kicks in and the actual overloading begins make it go green.

Two things:
1) This belongs in the Features and Ideas topic
2) I find your ideas interesting and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter. ----------

Too small? I hit it all the time, when I don't want to.

I agree it should be somewhere else.

I discovered it when playing while drunk once, and had no idea why my stuff started overheating. I logged out in disgust and confusion, suspecting some evil GM or hacker was having their way with me, and only figured out what really happened a couple days later.

1) Clicking the 'tiny' green bar above modules. 2) Assigning shortcuts to overload specific slots.
3) You can click the little buttons next to the module icons if you want to overload a full rack - mostly useful for high rack only, since it's where the weapons are. Not as useful if you want to overheat your MWD but not your shield booster.
As for #2, you don't have to assign shortcuts. Default F-key shortcuts combined with SHIFT toggles overheating, so it's SHIFT-Fx for high slots, ALT-SHIFT-Fx for mid slots, and CTRL-SHIFT-Fx for low slots.

Following along with the above, I'd suggest SHIFT-click rather than ALT-click.

How about having overloaded mods simply returning to normal, but nolonger being able to overload them. This way you don't lose mods in a fight due to lag.
Yeah, another thing to lose due to lag. ----------------------
Hope that they'll make this game fun again is the only reason i still play. |

One thing that is important to note is that clicking the "overload rack" buttons overloads the mods in the respective slots, not the modules that you have placed in the high/mid/low locations on the GUI.
Changing that to overload the modules as placed would help me out enormously.

Overloading button is on the interesting position. I always hit it when I didn't mean to and can't hit the damn thing when I want to. It needs a change.

I find overloading a lot more manageable by just rightclicking the module and selecting 'toggle overloading'.
No more missed clicks or accidental module shutdowns.

OMG PLEASE
the overloading interface in this game is TERRIBLE.
Make the overload rack button affect the "rack" as you have it displayed on the GUI. Make it easier to overload individual mods (alt+click) Make the overloading status of a module MUCH more clear (not overloaded, will overload next cycle, overloading, will stop overloading next cycle)

What burns out modules for me is....
Overload
See damage is getting up to around 70%
Cancel overload
Modules cycle two more times but still show as overloading
Cancel overload again
Modules appear to stop overloading for one cycle, then start overloading again
The problem has mostly been with guns, the fast cycle time on them makes that overload indicator do weird things...

I'd like an user-definable overheat threshold. Something like "Set modules to stop overheating at 90% module damage" so you don't have to fiddle with the wee green button.

Not whining... just not using keyboard. If I liked pressing impossible combinations of keyboard buttons, I would have bought a MAC.

Alt+Shift+F1 is a really awkward keyboard shortcut, even more awkward than trying to click the little overload button.
