Or, even better.....you don't like the margins on some ships, fine. Please start your own lottery site called "Frost Winks" maybe. that way you can set the margins on each and every ship to exactly where you think they should be. Whoever has the better site will then attract the most business, and be declared the winner in the "Fantasy money in a pretend spaceship game lottery site" category.
Go Frost !!!!1!

Edited by: Somerset Mahm on 28/09/2010 19:57:45 You are correct that the rate of ticket purchase remains approximately constant when cost is decreased. However the rate of creation of new frig blinks when their cost goes lower is HUGELY increased. People do not like it when Blink is clogged with 6 frigates. Sorry.
My fixed cost to pay my employees to handle claims is the same when someone wins a Vindicator as it is when they win a Vengeance. This naturally means that as a percentage, margins are higher when the ship only costs 10-15M to begin with.
If you think the Crow or Ishkur or whatever isn't worth the ticket cost, please try blinking on something else instead. They are still the highest-volume movers (1 in 3 blinks is a frigate) so people do enjoy them.
That's really all I have to say on the subject Feel free to drop me a mail if you have further comments.

What about a 30 sec timer between blinks? They can still hit up for 4 bets on a pot, but a timer gives others a chance to pipe in. Rather than one guy taking up 50% in a macro second.
Oh and I think the blinks are already clogged with these frigate hull pots. Which is why the cost is higher, because it's a better profit margin for you. You're only human... and even game isk has it's temptations.

Frost, For example I wanted a mach
I purchased a good amount of the total blinks available
Its still a gamble - as i might not win - but still lost 50% of cost of one, by buying half the tickets
i could buy 7/10 and hope i win to save about 100m.....
its a gamble

Go buy half the tickets... but it's not a fair process. It's a simple drawing. Before anyone can bid, you already have a 50% chance. Having you wait between blinks on the same pot gives others time to enter. This also puts an end to the idea that there could be people out there with unlimited blinks bidding for Somer to gain 50% of the winnings. Can you prove to me this isn't happening? I can't prove it is, but I think it's a fair trade off for your Eve community to give them reassurance. You know I'm right.

I dont really understand what the issue is; If you want a 50% chance to win some thing start a blink and buy as many of them as you want as soon as you start it. It is a quick draw, you have to be fast.
On another issue, Somer; how come you cant trade the plex for ISK or blink credit? Also let me know anytime you decide to sell shares in blink.

I am in the top 3 for blinks and I have tried to play the buy 70% and watch me win but it does not mean I will win. I have played lots of mega blinks where I buy 8-10 spots hopping to win but most were losses (somer I'm sure you can varrify this to please everyone). Why am I in the top 3 because I play and play lots why because it's fun and don't think just because I have won 14 billion that I have made isks your wrong currently I'm down 3 billion (unless I did bad math again) so if any of you want to trade your losses for mine fine I will more then be happy to.
So all you talking about how someone buying 50% and having a better chance then you well open you wallet up and be a big boy and bet or sh*t up about it. If you do the math you have to have a really bight % of wins to brake even when you risk 500mill on that shiny ship you have been thinking about.
Somer your game is great and don't listen to these poeple who feel it's there wright to complain that they don't get stuff for free without earning it or working for it.

It really doesn't matter how many blinks someone plays per item. I'm the top blinker in terms of items played but I'm not shown among the top winners. By far not. I mostly only blink one time per item. Does it make me a looser? Not really. As Symm has pointed out he plays several blinks per item, shows as the top winner and still has a loss in the end. I'm pretty much even or even have a slight plus after adding up all the items I cashed in. True, I loose on many big items, but when I win the profit margin is nice. It's all about luck and the fun factor - and for that I'm willing to pay

You guys really don't understand what I'm saying. You must all come from the fast nano generation... lol, those that actually thought that was good for the game. I think if you were put in a position to have to wait 30 seconds between blinks on the same pot, then it makes the whole concept fair and justified for everyone. I would even make the wait time 1-2 mins. If time passes and youc an still grab 50% of the tickets, good for you. But it really puts a red flag up on all of this when Somer doesn't see the benefit in implementing such a change. If she's really out to provide a great lottery for Eve, then I would assume she would want the fairest and most logical approach? But letting players bid so many time and so quick, really make me wonder if they are working for the house, or for the rest of us. Think about it. There is no clean way of making this lottery 100% transparent and honest... but don't you think a cool down time between blinks would regulate a bit more of the marco bidders?

Ok frost with that in mind if .blink was like all the other lotteries out there your trying to tell me that if they had 100 tickets for sale and I buy 90 at one time they would refuse or I should send my isks in one at a time just to give others a fair chance. Maybe you computer is just to slow to handily a up to date way of playing like somer has done. O and last time I looked it's called .blink not .wait1hour

I agree with Symm. I've bought large amounts of tickets in other lotteries like the SOE ones, and would never imagine the organizer asking me to delay my ticket purchases.
Besides, they are FAST lotteries. If you are concerned about one person buying 7 of the 8 tickets, wait for it to end and start another one for the same type of ship. You should be fast enough to get the tickets you want that way. Most Frigate lotteries seem to finish in less than 10 minutes.

Frost,
First, Somerset Mahm has spent quite some time developing a customer base and background as a reputable administrator of his own standard lotteries who delivers as promised. As well as acting for and offering 3rd party lottery holdings services delivering again as promised.
So unfounded accusations of fixing the system, macro bidders and insider betting while common place and to be expected in these forums are just that unfounded, unproven and inflammatory.
Second the margins any time they have been brought up have been openly discussed and disclosed transparently in this forum post, so those who have read such and choose to continue to play accepting them as they are do so of their own accord with an understanding of such. Those who play without researching and reading the forum posts also do so of their own accord.
Third if you have concerns voice them directly as you have. If you find they are dismissed unfairly or answered unsatisfactorily it is your choice to continue to use the service or not.
Finally this is Eve where each individuals actions are their own, to accept, reject, defend and be accountable for. I will thank you not to speak as those you represent the whole customer base and speak only for yourself and others who choose to have you speak for them. I certainly do not.
In closing I am certain there will be those who choose to pick apart and troll my comments. Again it is to be expected.
I have spoken my peace.

Alot of us play for the fast action. If there was a stupid time limit on blinks i wouldnt play. You have a choice...if you are so concerned simply dont play, go play one of the thousand other lotteries that take weeks to fill. There are choices out there.....choose.

Hmmm just a little suggestion about the implementation - maybe consider adding a bit (a bit more?) of AJAX into the mix? Its a huge winner as far as usability of a site like this I think, no more mindlessly spamming refresh to see when Blinks finish
Also perhaps add another category of blinks for frigates and the like, since they seem to move alot quicker than the cruiser hulls that also take up the normal Blink spots. Something like Minor Blink.
Also maybe add the standard battle-cruisers to the Blink list, they are a high use item with a fair price (Blink around the price of a dictor?) that could move quickly.
Just some ideas I had - probably useless but heh __________________________

Yep, it was mentioned a few pages back (not that I expect you to comb through :P) but I am working on it. Oh yeah AJAX always requires alot of thought to the implementation otherwise you can indeed end up hurting yourself more than helping, not to mention to possibility to leave a massive security hole if it is implemented incorrectly.
Perhaps have the browser do the lifting by requesting a new connection every x seconds and then closing it - rather than leaving it open? Not sure about the overhead of opening and closing sockets/connections using Ajax though - bit of a Java nut myself __________________________
