I was thinking of both but there are many people on both sides of this and well i was wondering if you had to pick one of those 2 wich one would be more useful in level4's? I plan to use t2 missile with my tengu and it goes alot faster making it able to tank more while being able to stay cap stable but people say he CNR out performs the tengu so i dont know wich one to pick' any suggestions? p.s. i only want 1 of them im not uber rich

The CNR outperforms the Tengu, but not by a lot. The Tengu is more convenient (if you spend a fortune on it). Use the one you have the best skills for.

at least u can fit a rack of faction bcus and a faction booster on a cnr w/o having to worry about getting ganked. a hisec mission tengu has so bad buffer it only takes one artillery bs to suicide gank it in one shot.

during a mission today in my raven i had to warp out multipile times since i couldnt tank all the hits so wouldnt the tengu be more efficent at it?

I only see 3 possibilities there:
1. You didn't manage aggro correctly. IE you killed a trigger too early. 2. You don't have the appropriate skills to effectively tank a lvl 4. 3. Your fit isn't appropriate to tank a level 4.

Edited by: Unit ADA on 20/09/2010 08:06:56 CNR is better overall in Level 4 missions, especially when fighting against non-kinetic weak npc's. However against Kinetic Weak I'd say the Tengu is about equal with the CNR.
Tengu however can be fitted to do low-sec mission as you can make it unscannable with the right fit. It has the speed and agility that can help get you out of ugly situations.
They have their strengths and weaknesses, if you mission for factions other than caldari then the CNR is the ship for you, if you mission for only Caldari and/or Gallente I'd say the Tengu as it doesn't need as much management depending on how you fit it.
Training up for the Tengu takes a lot less time than training up for the CNR. Tech 2 heavies, and subsystem skills(you don't need all of them at 5, though you should make offensive and defensive at least 5. And the rest 4 to the least.) Infact it takes up half the training time.
T2 Heavy missiles and Cruiser skills give you more use in PVP than Lolz T2 Cruise Missiles and Caldari Battleship skips.

For missioning the golem is the best ship you can have. So for planning skills a CNR is little better then the tengu and after you have the isk and the skills you gonna sell the CNR and buy a golem.
On the other hand a tech III is a very useful ship an many ways, just it cannot compete against a golem when you want make a living from doing missions. But once you have the golem you can easily afford a tengu.

CNR doesn't take alot of training. T2 cruise missiles are a waste if it's a PvP pilot and you might as well use faction launchers. The rest of the supporting skills are all needed for both the Tengu and the CNR.
So fly both, Tengu for cruiser-frigate heavy missions that have a lot of travelling. CNR for WC, AE, Pirate Invasion, etc. that require no travelling and have a lot of BS.
And the Tengu can do a lot more than just run missions. Wormholes, exploration (everywhere with covert fits), low sec/null sec missions, good covert PvP fits and probably the best of the T3s for straight up PvP fits (Rocket 2.0 anyone?).
Not getting a Tengu is... unimaginable.

Tengu, it has 80% base thermal resist which makes it excel against Serpentis and a long locking rang with dissolution sequencer for those sensor dampeners. Not to mention Serpentis mission are usually cruiser heavy.

The Tengu excels everywhere - it just excels to lesser degrees occasionally. Serpentis are weak to kinetic, and therm/kin. The Tengu is fine against them - maybe a little better than fine considering the crazy amount of dampening that can happen in Serp Blockade.

No. I recommend having a Golem, CNR, Tengu, Mach, and Nightmare... and using the right ship for the job. But if you can only have one, I recommend a CNR. The Tengu will do fine though.

Might hold off on considering a new toy when you can't play with the one you have properly.

Good to hear. Coincidentally, active shield tanking, energy grid, and nav skills will make a good foundation for either ship. So you have plenty of time to think on it.

tengu is kinda nice to just launch into a mission and not have to worry about aggro, just check on the game every few moments to press the shoot button. or just resize the internet browser to fill like 90% of the screen and leave just enough room so you can see the target's hp.
if you wanna go nuts have one on the left and one on the right!

With a pith a-type small shield booster and a appropriate tech 2 hardeners + boost amp. The tengu can go AFK in about every single mission, though you should fit an AB and orbit something.
Personally, I think the Tengu is fine for missions, but only really shines when it's probing down exploration sites in 0.0 and running them by itself.
It's comparable to the CNR, but only very slightly less efficient. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

The only downside of active tengu is that it is very prone to sudden death by howitzer

having flown both a T2/faction fit CNR and a T2/Faction fit Tengu, i can say with DEFINITIVE certainty for me that the Tengu FAR outperforms the CNR....
...
IF YOU FIT IT A CERTAIN WAY!!!!
My CNR: Hislots 7x Cruise Missile Launcher II 1x Tractor
Midslots: 3x Shield hardeners (T2 or faction) 1x X-Large shield booster (T2 or faction) 1x Shield boost Amp (T2 or faction) 1x Cap Recharger II or 100mn Afterburner II
Lowslots: 4x Ballistic Control II 1x Damage Control II (non-panalty'd shield resists in lows, woot!)
Rigs: 1x Large CCC 1x Large Rigor
My Tengu that out-dps'd, out-speeds, and out-tanks it, even with only a 27km range with rages:
Hislots: 6x Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II
Mids: 1x 10mn Afterburner (T2 or republic fleet) 1x Pithi b-type SMALL shield booster 1x Shield boost amp (T2 or faction) 1x Target Painter 2x Hardeners
Lowslots: 4x Ballistic Control Systems (T2 or faction)
Rigs: 2x Medium Warhead Flare Catalyst II 1x Medium Hydraulic Bay Thrusters II
The CNR gets 700-ish dps, at a range of 93km (targeting range), but is slow as heck getting to gates. The tengu has 870-900 dps, travelling 625m/s but occasionally has to chase a ship down, which isn't too bad with its speed.
In missions, i usually finish with the tengu in 60% of the time it took in my CNR, withalmost no exceptions.

Explain this please as I might be ''my name'' but then you have to do a 16.000+ damage salvo on a 150m signature that travels 661m/s

not to mention undocking, check out the tempests 30km behind/infront of the jita 4-4 undock point, can do the same thing at mission hub stations.

I actually use a Widow for lvl 4's I was closer to a Widow than a Golem, so I had one anyway. I haven't been pvp'ing much in a long time either, so I even rigged mine for active tanking. It can actually out tank a CNR, but can't outdps... I have to take drones with me to kill some cruisers and pretty much any frigs in the mish, but hey, it works.
I would only reccomend a Widow tank for someone that wants to mission for cash, but loves ewar pvp. :P
