This is a simple survey. It's inspired by the "Russian server" thread but this is not an endeavor to bash the Russkies (in my RL dealings with them I never disliked any and found they have a better concept of liberty than most Americans).
On a scale of 1 to 10, what level of "tears" do you like.
Level 1: "I don't want to bother anybody. If going into piracy I would honor ransoms and leave noobs alone so they prosper and become a worthy target later. I would also honor 1 vs 1 and if I used some sneaky tactics to win, I would not rub my opponents face in it."
--to--
Level 10: "Grief grief and more grief the better. Make them cry! Tears give me a reason to live. If some kid hangs himself in the closet because of me, that would be my shining achievement! I like befriending noobs, luring them out to lowsec, and then blasting their ship and scramming their pod while making fun of them. I can smack in local for hours and scam like a politician."
Of course these are polar opposites, but try to figure that at level 5, you might enjoy the tears of someone who really had it coming, or tried to grief you or the tears of a sore loser perhaps and in some cases you might steal from or attack someone who was being so dumb they needed it as a learning experience.
So what's your grief level on a scale of 1 to 10 and what country are you from?
Me:
level 3, USA (Live and let live I say, but sometimes some people are such asshats they need to be enlightened)

I don't ever smack, always honor the rare ransom I issue, and have never can-flipped, scammed, or otherwise 'griefed.' I will pvp my little heart out during a war, or to uphold NBSI, but there's no reason we can't be respectful and show some class.

If I was in a corporation that declared war with another, I would only seek to attack targets that had a fighting chance and who were roaming and looking for a fight. Mission runners and miners I would not touch. If they declared war on my corp however, everything would be fair game, from shuttles to hulks to mission running frigates and BS's, and everything inbetween. Obviously in Fleet vs. Fleet everything would get shot.
I would never be a pirate but if I did try it at a later stage of complete boredom with the game I would honour ransoms without question and absolutely would not touch anything that didn't have a chance at defending itself. If I started to attack something bigger and better than me and it became evident they're just mission runners travelling through lowsec (like if they didn't scram me and had typical mission modules) I would stop before destroying them and let them go.
I don't like griefing people and being an *******, that's not why I play the game, and no amount of anybody griefing me or being an ******* to me would change that. Probably. Also, if someone deserved a kicking for whatever reason I'd certainly let them have it, but I don't see how that factors in to this survey because that's a given. Even the Dalai Lama would probably unleash his fury on somebody that really deserved it and feel good afterwards.
Also, you may want to take gender into consideration. Or maybe not, seeing as the females that play games online have so much interaction with the 99% male population of every game that they pretty much start to turn into *******s just like all the guys. Case in point is the attitudes of many women on this forum. If they didn't make it clear they were women, you'd never tell the difference.

The tears were funny though
I'd say I'm at Level 5-6 atm.
I don't see much point in roaming round high-sec can-flipping n00bs just for the lulz and ruining their day.
Having said that, I found the Hulkageddon Tears hilarious... the highlights being "KAPLAH! VICTORY THROUGH SCIENCE!" and "PLEASE CRY MOAR MY POS NEEDS FUEL"
I would never scam anyone, but that's because I think there's more interesing things to do in EVE than sitting in Jita/Amarr flooding the chat or spending hours trying to make contracts look like something they're clearly not.
TL;DR = EVE wouldn't be EVE without the tears.

I enjoy the gank and making people emo rage, but I've also paid for a noobs ship after destroying it in lowsec, he made me feel bad :( If you are old enough to know better, but shoot at me after I can flip you anyway or wonder through that lowsec gate, then I have no pity, Eve is hard mode. If you are a new player, or even just act nice instead of being a jackass, then I'll probably abandon the can full of your ore and leave you be.
I'm too nice to ever be a pirate and rarely can flip, but I have been known to just to see if I can get a fight. Tears can be fun, but they don't drive me, I'd rather find people that want to fight in 0.0

The question wasn't about whether you cry or not over a lost ship. The question was whether you take pleasure in griefing, and if so, by how much, more or less.

How very true. I remember about ten years ago and reading stories about Darkwolves and Fancy the Bard and wetting myself laughing at their griefing. It was imaginative and hilarious then. Now its a bunch of sheep repeating memes at each other.

Level 2, USA. I'd only fire if fired upon, unless that person did everything he/she possibly could to deserve it (or I was told to by a corp/alliance superior and didn't have much choice). Even then if I popped someone there would be the odd occasion where I pay them back the cost of the ship and leave the destruction and not the ISK loss to teach them a lesson. I've never can-flipped and don't plan on starting.
There are always exceptions to every rule, of course.

I'm a flashy red pirate, so I of course will shoot at just about anything. If tears roll down a victims cheek and onto my tongue, I'm down with that. It isn't spinach and I'm not Popeye, but it is sort of like an energy bar or RedBull sometimes.
Never go actually looking for tears though, not really in my nature. I'll help noobs, and I'll chat with people I kill if they are wanting to talk about stuff instead of doing emoragetantrum, but not into griefing.
Unless of course someone's mouth won't stop opening and closing with some ridiculous nonsense (usually emoragetantrum+smack). If someone is already feeding me tears though, I'm gonna try and milk it for as much as I can if I think they are a woman's hygiene product made of water and vinegar.

well, with level 1 still involving piracy and ransoms and such, i guess that makes me zero, or negative something. i'll fight when at war, and maybe fight dirty even, but i'll never hunt down a random person, or gatecamp and kill anything that moves. do unto others, and all that. i don't want to be blown up just for trying to fly from A to B, so i won't do it to someone else.
now, if i'm sitting on a gate watching traffic from my cov ops and see a bountyhead show up, well, you know. bounties.

On the tears side of it though, I prefer to be civil, prefer to give a GF in local than smack even if i was blobbed 10 to 1 and it wasnt a good fight. I guess im much more drawn by the gentlemanly side to warfare, when defeat could be accepted and the victor praised for coming out on top regardless.

I love PVP, though I'm not exceptionally skilled at it. Solo PVP is my fave, and I hold to my word for 1v1s, I have and never will hotdrop my friends into my 1v1. I love lowsec pvp, but don't really smacktalk, besides goodnatured jabbing etc. I don't get very mad when I lose, and don't gloat when I win. I have thrown up a few speculative scam contracts, just for fun, and have participated in Hulkageddon (FUN!).
I don't like destroying totally new players, as Id like to increase EVEs pop, and have given isk to a trial player after ganking him in lowsec. What I enjoy is the fight, with only a side of tears. If someone is a real jerkoff, than I try to exctract a few extra.

Don't be afraid to trash a newbish moron into the ground, but then explain in thorough detail how you trashed him/her.
CCP doesn't do much to support new players into the game. It's up to the players in order to do that, and the first step to showing our love to our fellow podpilots in this universe is to pop their ship, break their spines, and display their ghoulies on our exhaust pipes.

other than that: your not blue, your a target, be it in 0.0 lowsec or in your shiny freighter in jita.

5/10 possibly I like tears, but only if they are brought with honor. I would not use any tactics I find just plain assholish.

I'd say a good solid 7 or 8. Spain's the place.
I've been a casual player, quitting and picking it up again, and carebearish.
Now I've joined some Highsec war deccers and I'm fully devoted to PvP, from the scum-like perspective: blob if possible, opportunistic kills, denial of fair engagements and hiding in station if necessary, logging traps, seeking the feeble and the wounded, etc etc.
It actually feels good to see others being griefed, for once.
I haven't jumped into a Hulk in all of 2010, I haven't lost a ship since I joined this setup in June, and my killboard is now only worth smirks and patronizing, instead of outright bursts of laughter and honest pity.

Not above a bit of smack and dirty tactics, I don't believe in fair play in a competitive enviroment. Not out for griefings sake, but victims crying in local does increase kill satisfaction.

8-9/10 Sweden.
I enjoy all kinds of griefs except the following: 1, making people actually quit eve. if they emoragelogoff and stay off for days/weeks whatever is all good though 2, personal harasses. ganking the same person over and over making him bankrupt is cool, but going personal on vent/facebook/mails etc is not ok imo. 3, i'de never be able to join a corp, befriend everyone and then after a long time just scam their balls and steal everything. once friends im loyal. though i have befriended people just to be able to get an easy gank on an expensive ship, but that wasnt very long term.

I find it disturbing people enjoy causing harm to others. Even in a video game.
I'm a level 5 tear collector myself. However... I know plenty of people who boil tears to make soups and stews... They taste pretty good, too.

It depends on my mood at the time and the quality of the tears. Usually both are pretty bad though, so it can very wildly.
Since I'm from New Zealand, let's go with "sheep".

I am from Canada, and i care not for tears.
Oddly enough i'm a rabid PvP player in any other game i play, because there's either something i gain from that, and/or no one loses anything through dying. In this people lose lots of stuff if i kill them, and i get very little for my efforts, so my time is spent doing other things.

8/10 or 9/10. About the only concession I make is honoring ransoms. Even then, I've been known to force a guy to eject from his ship, dock it, repack it to strip it of insurance, sell it back to him, then pop it when he undocks.

Surburban San Francisco Area
- any faction ship deserves to die - can't wait till I start ganking them but every new account I get I turn all the charcters into traders and can't sacrafice them.
- Hiting hot buttons of people on the forums with rational arguments that they despise is also fun... forum tears .. No taunting from me though.. only playing devils advocate.
The fatter the head the choicer the tears are. Some-one with a happy mood can't be griefed anyway... they'll laugh and tell you good job at a pvp game. (I'll congratulate someone who tricks me)
But.. there should be an "angel" score too.
If I like griefing people I also like helping people down on their luck.. I'll send off millions to newb strangers that look like they can use a genuine boost... especially people finding their way in the game.. but I'd rather help a guy broke because of pvp ... if a carebear can't figure out how to care bear they're reaaly really in the wrong place.
I'd say 7/10 griefer and 7/10 angel
