This is warning that Will Fireblade of Mercenary Forces WILL pod you after you have paid a ransom as it just happened to a corp mate of mine, when convo'd for the money back he refused.
This isn't a whine, just a statement of fact and a warning to other players who might get caught by him.

Exactly! The correct procedure is whine on the forums until piracy is nerfed even more and also add a scathing remark about implants being too much of a death penalty and you are about to cancel 3249872 accounts because of it
imho MF really doesn't need more bad publicity, this guy should be booted (IMHO )

Ironic that you were the guy with a group who destroyed another corp mates scorp in syndicate a couple of days ago and he has +5 sec status and 'Anti Pirate' in his bio.

imo that is just the kind of pathetic attitude that is making eve more boring, and declining the number of pirates. You are cutting off your own nose to spite pirates because you are too ignorant to appreciate the role they play. It is better for you financially to pay up ransom, and better for the pirate too.
I have never once killed the person i have ransomed, and anyone who does i think is hurting the pirate role not helping it, as it encourages people to have the same attitude as SurVie seems to have.
Of course you have the right not to pay, but that doesnt mean you can say hands-down that nobody should ever pay up to honourable pirates just because you choose not to.

Edited by: Dark Eagle on 01/01/2005 21:53:36 well personally i would repay the isk, but you really cant blame the guy if you actually started paying him after he gave up on you. With ransoms, pirates have to be fast, if you dabble with them or delay the chances are you are pod fodda, its how it works.

My corp mate had borrowed the money off of me and Will was counting down as he paid, the money was transfered before he finished counting down and my corp m8 was podded. The fact he has not refunded the 5 million paid over does not lend credability as to what he is saying as to it being non intentional.
Will had my corp mate scrambled, was counting down, was paid, podded him, was asked for refund and refused, thats the way it went and such actions do not give the impression that Will won't pod anyone he does ransom in future and hence this post.

Well, that sorat sums it up. I have had numerous dealing with the pirates and pirate corps - in my expirience (or maybe I am just lucky?) they were all honourable and kept their word.
Now, My corpmates had enocunetered Teddybears before, And Zarquon Beblebrox (sorry if I have misspelled the name) and they have been nothing but extremley professional in the handling of the matters between them.
Also I might heartily reccomend Venal Rangers and Gogo Yubari as another example of a trustworthy group. Some of you might disagree - I dont care.
All I know is that pirate must survive just like any other member of EVE Community and as far as I am concerned if there is an agreement/unspoken rule/custom/more whatever you want to call it - and you come to an understanding with someone stronger than you are - then it is extremley important for both players to keep their ends of the bargain.
Pirates Gank/Carebears Mine/ Carebear Pirates blob-job you/ manufacturing Alts Stay in Empire and hike the Prices - its all part of the circle. Thats why I like this game. I often wondered and wished to move to a less "legitimate" corp - but never quite made the move cause I know I dont have much time to play EVE Now - only few hrs at most a week. But I might do it later. Anyways this is irrelevant.
What relevant is:
There is only dishonour in breaking your word. And trust is the most prtecious comodity of all.
Thank you.
P.S. I did not mean to rant, sorry.

WTF... Lol im respectable also... i have received 100 Million total form 4 people at 25 Mil each for passes. I have let them go and free to pass. If you would like to ask whom, i promised to leave the identity of them alone and the corps that paid me. However that is for me and my alt corp and grim... does not mean anyone else however. So just because theres some issues where he was shot dead as he paid isk.... (his fault for slowness) doesnt mean we are all dishonurable. Maybe he should have paid faster.... I count downt too... they dont pay me at that timer than pop, just because i dont want them to have time to get help or cry.... but i have yet to have someone pay me as i launch a missle at the pod at the same time...

He paid before the end of the timer, not long before I'll grant you but before, and he's hardy at fault for what happened after that wallet transfer is made. Personally I don't think that all of MF behave like this just that Will Fireblade did and hence I put this thread up to warn people, in the same way I posted about Ertai of MF setting his CCP mail charge to 10mil and then mailing people to convo him to discuss about MF deciding to declare on thier corp. As MF have/had a POS near to and declared on two corps that live in the Osmeden area I've got to meet quite a few and most have been a laugh to chat to.

First off it wasn't me who got attacked, ransomed and podded, it was a corp mate, english is not his native language and this is why I'm writing on here.
He did pay at the last few moments of countdown whilst he was in his ship as who would watch it get blown up and then pay? After he was then podded. He convo'd you to ask for money back as he thought it was a dishonerable thing to keep it however I understand you refused, since then no one from MF has either contacted me or him about it. This thread isn't a complaint about anyone's gaming style as everyone is free to play how they want within the EULA and as it's now basically our word against yours anyone reading this will have to draw thier own conclusions about what will happen to them in a similar situation with Will Fireblade.

That's the full story: I get the prophecy my corp made me that same day 3 hours earlier and i wanted to try it so I went in maut for killing rats. After i've cleared an asteroid belt from rats i started looting containers. I had the overview menu full with cont so i didn't see nobody coming. Then i was locked by Will Fireblade and perhaps some others guys (i could not say how many there were of them). I was already damaged and low on cap so when i started taking damaged i convoed Will Fireblade and ask for leaving me alive. he asked a ransom for 5 mils. i got only 415000 isks coz i spent all fot fitting the prophecy so i asked the corp for money and in the same time i advised them of this problem. They started counting down and when i get hans money pressed the ok button in the same time i saw the number 2 appearing in the chat. 1 sec later they destroyed my ship. Then even if i paid they podded me.
And this is what i think: Paying could be long but i paid in time.
Destroying my ship could have been a mistake or perhaps u "feeled the blood pumping" (how exciting killing a damaged prophecy with ur ass on a new mega)
But podding wasn't a mistake and u know that. U deliberately do that after i paid and u had enough time to heve seen i paid.

As point out in this topic, MF arent pirates. Theyre gankers. Sending them money is a bad move because they will kill you anyway.
Eventually all pirates will run out of vitcims that pay up and then itll be time for the real pirates to clear out the griefers among them. ---------------------------

to be perfectly honest its up to the individual to decide wether or not to let them go after payment, anyone else ideals of what is involved in piracy dont meen squat, end of the day it was between Will Fireblade and the guy he has locked down.
maybe he had told the guy to stop his pod, maybe he was still traveling to the gate, maybe like suggested before there was a delay with the transaction, sometimes the wallet does take a minute or 2 to update.
when you are gate camping and you have a guy locked down you have to do business very quickly, you dont want to be sat there for minutes at a time waiting for the victims mates to wire him cash etc..,

actualy poddin u was the mistake i clicked my gun instead of my warp scam which is right under my guns. If i had seen my wallet flash i would hav stopped but i wasn't the one in control Will said he didn't hav the cash and told me via TS to fire at will so i did. U weren't dmged when we first attacked u, i saw u at 100% shields and armour - ur armour tank stood for a while but we manged to get u to structure b4 the ransomin. Originally by: Arnold Duncan That's the full story: I get the prophecy my corp made me that same day 3 hours earlier and i wanted to try it so I went in maut for killing rats.
U deliberately do that after i paid and u had enough time to heve seen i paid.
actualy poddin u was the mistake i clicked my gun instead of my warp scam which is right under my guns. If u wanted to test ur ship do it in missions or 0.5+. 0.4 was meant for the start of pvp'in and u were simply in the wrong plae at the wrong time.
I don't know if u feel guilty and want to defend urself or simply i didn't explained myself well enough but i've been misunderstood. I didn't write to accuse any1 of killing me. I just stated facts as they happened to me. I wrote them only to advise any1 who will read this forum what happened to me when Will Fireblade asked me for a ransom. It could happen again as it could not. I'm just saying to any1 "Be careful and think it twice before paying a ransom to this guy".
PS: i had shields down. i don't remember exactly how much but i got them under 40%

Ugh I'm glad I don't have the retarded monkey idiot Mercenery Forces in my employment history. Mercenery Frigates had class, sad to see you become the lowest of scum scraping the bottom of the swamp. Just FYI MF has made it onto my permanently KOS list. (ooh scary!).
Edit; I'm sure most of you are still cool, however the corp damn well isn't and if I had stayed in Mercenery Frigates and somehow miraculously was still a member, I'd pod Will myself, and anyone else who treated his own corp's and corpmates reputation like total ****.

I'm fairly new, so even when podded, it would only cost me around $200-300k ISK to replace everything, including a more than adequate new clone.
Do you pirates use any rhyme or reason, or just assume everyone has a full set of expensive implants and charge some ridiculous number of millions?

... some people actually fly battleships you know, plat insurance just over 30mil for tier 2, + value of any ship mods on there, hence - 30mil for tier 2 is well worth paying

Uh... what? I couldnt decipher anything of value in all that nonsensical garbage so i'll just refrain from arguing with you, save for this:
Is the whole "pirate = criminal = not to be trusted" your personal views or does it summarize MF's stance on piracy?
Pirate is not synonym to "do not trust". By your actions you are hurting the trade mate. ______________________

I understand that many folks fly well-fitted battleships. Given the fact that pirates have short times to demand ransoms, however, I'm still curious as to how they decide what to charge.
Now, I'm of the mentality that ransoms should never be paid. After all, we are dealing with individuals who earn a living by causing general mayhem for others. Contrary to what people may say in these forums, a pirate is not, by definition, an honorable person. A pirate's word should be considered near valueless, in my opinion.
Assuming, however, that there is honor amongst pirates and privateers, how do they set their fees? There must be some off the cuff calculation pirates are doing as ships jump through gates to determine just how much a person should pay to live. I'm very curious to know how these figures are actually reached.
Perhaps if I knew there was some sense of business acumen going into the process, I'd be more inclined to pay if I encounter one of these gate-camping capitalists.

Kendar, even if you have just standard mods, nothing tech 2 or named, then it's still worth it to pay 30 mil for a tier 1 BS.
I believe 30 mil is what they often charge for tier 2 BS in fact, so you save a lot of isk and time shopping/building/refitting...
Paying the ransom is practical and best for all involved parties. Especially considering how many people have full heads of insanely expensive implants.

Tyrrax,
I appreciate your effort to explain the BS ransom, but my question is - how do they ransom those of us who aren't flying battleships? I highly doubt the insurance rates for frigates, cruisers, and industrials is committed to most pirates' memories.
On a side note, I would enjoy being shot by you, dear lady. Perhaps I would get into the business of mementos stenciled with -

Once you have someone locked down you can take as much time as you want to ransom. Backup arriving to help you out usually just means more people for the pirates to ransom/kill.
Someone like me who is ancient, rich and likely to be implant filled would have to pay more most likely than someone who's 2 weeks old in an osprey, no matter what ship I was flying.
A pirate who ransoms regularly will know approximately how much to ask a cruiser pilot for, based on the age, corp and manner of the victim. Rude victims will get killed rather than ransomed as a rule... Frigate pilots will usually not get the option of paying a ransom, not enough isk to be had from someone flying something totally disposable, pods can be worth over 500 million isk to the victim, so they often get ransomed.

I havn't tried to dend myself or anyone else
We are a collection of players, and we do not bind each other to rules.
we are NOT a traditional corp, therefore when people try to define us they have problems understanding what we are. therefore they try to pigion hole us into "griefiers"- "pirates" whatever
put simply we are what we are, care little for politics of Eve.
As I said I personally would have paid back the 5 million, but Im rich and 5 mill is pocket change.
If I ransom you (which i won't) don't trust me because I WILL blow you up, thats what I do.
If someone offers me a ransom the standard reply is "no dice", i simply don't want or need more ISK, all that I want is to destroy your ship, and move on to my next victim.
Does this make me a griefer?
Well I dont have the answer to that, if you wish to burdon me with that label then so be it. I wan't you to be angry with me, I want you to "bring your friends", its what I play for.
I hope you all enjoy Eve as much as I do, untill we meet, travel safe

Mail -> Inbox -> settings, although it's since been limited AFAIK since the patch. It does not mean the person getting the convo gets the money as it's the tax normally set to 100ISK when you mail someone that they haven't set to allow.

Yeah... i like people that would rather die with their pride than live with their wallet a little light...
Death should really really HURT more than it does, so you actually dies, you have something to whine about, cause most of the dudes with implants in, they either dont die, or they wouldn't notice in their wallets if they died 5 times with full implants ...
So to the other poor bastards like myself, if you cant aford to lose it, dont use it...

I wasn't talking about any fights you've had and I know who you are, if I remember correctly you got money off of Van Amdred for a lab as I'd just logged on and he was asking for you to dock to give over the lab, then you jumped.
I wasn't there or talking to anyone at the time so can't comment but am suprised that anyone would be smack talking to you and even more so that you would stay around to listen for an hour of it.
