Its a game, so I tend to stop caring a few seconds after someone shoots my ship, rips me off or anything really.
Anyway, who are you? (Im too sane to voluntary go and read MD).

MD in particular has a very long memory, and most MD regulars have a habit of digging through a character's history whenever needed so even if they'd forget they'd be reminded at the right time.

Crack open the history books and look at the sections on England and France.
Your children raising their children to hate someone because of something that happened to your grandparents isn't anything at all uncommon. Grudges? Hope you didn't trigger a blood feud.

Hmm... In eve? I tend to forget peoples names in a few days unless they did something good for me...
It's a game... How long can you hold a grudge over something that doesn't even exist? And how long till I wanna stop taking revenge on someone if I wanted to take it in the first place? Usually after I take it :P

I only get revenge opportunistically, like when I happened to run into the same guy who killed my Arbi one hour later, that was sweet. And he was cool compared to other peoples responses!
I have had threads from RL harm to destroying my Alliance with a magical High Sec Supercarrier Blob...

really, most of my deaths or things i might hold a grudge for I can look at and say fairly definitively 'they out-thought me' or 'they planned for this better than i', at which point i shrug and post gf in local.
If someone scams me out of something, id be distraught surely, but id have to tip my hat at them for actually being able to do it to me, so id probably just end up complimenting them on their style.
So no, I wont hold a grudge very long - I will remember what they did to me so it wont happen again, but i wont go out specifically to try and retaliate.

I was reading the forums the other day and forgot I had undocked my coercer. A couple of guys from highsec had decided to come poke around in my low sec home system, and blew up my poor little destroyer... I added them as contacts and watch list, because they have a positive security status and that is an extremely rare thing...to have kill rights on someone that lives in highsec...
So, when he'd come online I'd pay the locator agent next door a visit and see where he was. He didn't seem to stay online for very long and not very often, but I kept doing it. He bounced around from place to place, but then he came online once and the locator agent said he was in a particular station. I checked eve agents and it seemed the station was home to a pretty nice looking level 4 agent...sweet. I had an alt head over there pronto, and I fit a dual-web dual-rep dual-heavy neut paladin and headed the arduous 15 jumps to that system.
My alt got there and he wasn't in local, checked the station and SCORE, locator agent. "Hey man, there's a guy I'm looking for and I think he's been doing some work for you." "Yeah, I just sent him over to hadanoo."
I had the alt burn for the system, and myself and a corpmate with a 6x remote sebo blackbird follow me to the system one jump short of hadanoo where I pitched a tent and waited.
My alt got there and there he was in local! Wondering what he was in, I had my alt bounce around the system spamming d-scan. Random mining cruisers, orca, navy apoc, paladin. Bounced around the belts, found everything except the navy apoc and the paladin. Apoc jumped to me, but wasn't him...that only left one ship, which I promptly probed out. Just as I got a 100% hit and was warping to him, he left system. Switched back to this character, and there he was in local. He decloaks in a paladin, attempting to warp to the next gate in his route back to his agent.
Point, dual web, dual neut, guns overloaded. Blackbird dies to his tachyons in one volley. Just before he hits structure, I type in local: "Nice trade for a coercer."
Remembering all his smack about how he killed my coercer, and my sexual orientation for camping he and his buddy in station with my devoter for a good long while....felt pretty good. He warped his pod away and rage logged. No smack, no hatemail, nothing. That left me a bit disappointed. Hopefully his partner in crime logs on in the next few weeks...
So, in answer to the OP's question...about as long as killrights last.

Fortunately for me, my e-honor is not affected by the shenanigans perpetrated in internet spaceship games.
This does not mean I forget, however!
I distinctly remember my first real ship loss, an iteron mk V filled with shuttles(shuttles were worth alot in 0.0) with a few expensive skillbooks and modules. Heading out to the outpost in LS-JEP when CDC controlled the area (2006 some time). I had just run the pipe from hisec and saw no one, was 2 jumps from LS when a crusader catches me on gate as im trying to warp out. Popped the iteron and I managed to get the pod out as the game was lagging horribly due to 40 or so shuttles popping out into space all at the same time. I will always remember this and thank Electric Cucumber for the fond memories. --------------------------------------------

It depends why I was hit. -A- is my 'nemesis' but I dont hate -A- or have a grudge. They are the bad guys. Its thematic and essential to EvE. They dont care, they quite like having reds. People to shoot at. Ass hats who grief my Indy game in high sec? They will be on the hate list untill I leave EvE. So far there have been 3. I outlasted them. They quit. It supports my argument that CCP shouldnt spend too much time catering to this group of people, as griefing isnt long term fun and no something people stick with. It doesnt create those 5 year subs it just kills them before they get seeded. |

depends on situation
Getting caught by a red fleet while our fleet is running away? Say gf in local, ppl change sides so often not worth holding a grudge, and if you treat them nice as enemies they might even decide to join you after you'e kicked their ass.
Getting suicide ganked while afk autopiloting 30 mil of datacores through empire? don't even bother to look up the guys name.
Fleet or alliance members doing incredibly stupid things and not taking any responsibility for it? Yeah that ****es me off. Like the time a fleet commander tried to get us to fly through a enemy gatecamp a third our size in low sec and ignored the fleet when about 15 of us got caught. Needless to say didn't fly in those fleets anymore.
Outright betrayal like corp thefts and being betrayed by our ceo? don't ever forget those. ------------------------------ God is an afk cloaker |

I'll hold a grudge forever, but I really don't think anything players can do from within EVE itself would cause me to do so.
The worst that could happen is total loss of ISK, ships, implants and perhaps corporation/alliance. It is possible to rebuild all of this from scratch, or to simply walk away from the game. It's just a game, after all.
I wouldn't waste energy obsessing over bringing a betrayer to justice.

The answer is Never. All of Eve is based on your reputation. So the people who have done me bad will never be forgotten, and I can only hope that the positive relations will also be remembered.
A few of my grudges:
- Bose for my first ever ship loss. - Bob/Kenny even though I've killed them twice for what they did to Fix. - Horny Corny for stealing all our corp capital bpo's. - Fogie for scouting our 6 Freighters which all died. (horrible to be there in a lone Domi and utterly helpless to stop it.) - Dalic for being a real prime a-hole ceo. - Anita1 for refusing to engage in lowsec cuz she had a 5.0 sec status.
... man, didn't realize the list was so long! Better get on evening it up some...

Don't hold grudges in games mate, its not real is it? If you can't take your medicine better off in Kitty.
If someone betrays you and rips you off or worse; chalk it up as you being a poor judge of character and/or a poor leader/recruiter. One of the main things everyone in EvE has to accept is that people are, fundamentally, untrustworthy. That doesn't rule out ever trusting them. It just means you should expect the worse at all times and, for the most part, you can only ever then be pleasantly surprised.

I have a long blacklist excel sheet called "A**hats in EvE". It serves me well when doing "business" with ppl one might never heard of.
When interacting with others in eve, you have a good chance to be betrayed. With this list it wonŠt happen twice (or even wonŠt happen as this char is known).
On the other side, if someone poppes my ship he usually doesŠnt make it on that list, as most of the time (100%) it was my foult. Well, i once was mad when losing my ishtar to a blaster brutix, but again, i might not be the brightest light in pvp.
That said, one can make it on the list for beeing a dou***bag in local calling one names or even worse, just to prevent me for further activities when such an idividual shows up.
At least itŠs a game.

In late 2004 i had a go in eve with another char. Joined a corp but after 4 months the acused me of stealing and refining loot. I had no idea what was going on, but soon after two of them began to hunt me and kill me all the time.
After this i joined another corp, but they war decked them and kept hunting me. I ended up making this char and biomassed the other one(Simply gave up, but they stil are printet in my mind.
I have been tracking the two that startet all that junk against me. An alt are placed, and all i have to do now, is to effect my plan. The longer i wait the bigger my revenge will be...
Is above stupid, ya it might be in RL(dont hold grudges in RL, life is to short for that) , but in eve i hold a grudge....internetspaceshiprage....And it have been a huuuge motivator....
