ok i would like to suggest a titan style ship for carebears yes i would love to see a ship about the size of a titan ab;e to use six strip miners with a built in refinery and a decent manufacturing array to make up to a bs sized ship and various ammo. i would love to hear comments on how the ship could be set up. just why not have a carebear ship for the ultimate carebears since there are alot of us?

Edited by: Alara IonStorm on 01/10/2010 16:47:04 Because the hulks are already stripping the belts dry and mineral prices are to low as is. This new ship will drop them more making it harder for non uber cap miners to make a buck!
CCP has stated no ship will out mine the Hulk, well the Super Carrier will but they are way over powered anyway lol!
This isn't needed!

Yeah. Or how about an actual titan for mission runners with an old style AOE doomsday? Warp to mission -> nuke stuff in 0,3 seconds -> warp out.
What could possibly go wrong?

I've always like the idea of a Capital class miner for low sec that needs its own jump engines. Something with 6 to 8 miners and an Orca sized cargo hold. Of course it would have to have major drawbacks, but it could work.

Hm Titans in highsec - nope Missions in 0.0 - nope Asteroids in 0.0 - yepp
Need more info?

Yeah, I noticed that people actually lose the ability to spot sarcasm if you do not apply a smiley to a post.

You could grow some brains and actually know all by yourself when some sarcasm is involved. No smileys needed.

OP, You do realise that such a ship will crash the Tritanium prices even more, and so you will end up killing mining entirely?

I think the Hulk as biggest mining ship is ok, but perhaps there could be some more skills to improve the use of stripminers, lowering their powergrid-, cap- and cpu usage, to speed up the mining cycle even outside of of fleets.
Some more lowslots for the hulk would be nice either.

so what you are saying is you want a rorqual that can strip mine like a hulk? Death is not the answer only a means to an end. |

Actually there are plenty of mission agents in 0.0. all npc 0.0 regions have them. hope this helps.

Actually, if it is forced into a 20 minute siege mode in order to outmine a hulk, I'd gladly support it. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

You didn't spend much time thinking about this idea.
Too much in one ship, either it can out mine a hulk and maybe have more capacity or mines at hulk level with more defense and marginally more cargohold. A factory ship shouldn't be making BS if it mines it should mine at hulk level or lower, preferably lower. Refining on a factory ship should be lower probably 30-40% yield I say a ship with a factory slot shouldn't have more than 2 production lines and I'd argue it should only have one depending on size, at most be able to make cruisers preferably nothing larger than BC. The 'limit' on ship size would be in the form of available production 'space' meaning you could build a BS but could only manufacture 1 at a time as the delivery 'hangar' wouldn't have space for more than 1 of them, between the ore hold, mineral hold, delivery hangar, and corporate hangars all would make producing BS difficult unless you babysit the production.
There really wouldn't be any call for a super sized mining/refining/factory ship as it wouldn't be able to withstand the rigors of deep space where presumably such a behemoth would even be needed, there simply isn't any legitimate use for it in empire space other than "I am god of asteroids".
Any mining/factory ship's 'background' would be for deep space survival/resupply allowing a group to replenish their numbers as well as modules/ammo in a limited fashion nomadic style.
But to have an uber mining/manufacturing ship makes no sense especially as any such thing is a pinata waiting to be struck, virtually if not completely defenseless possessing one means it must be defended by a significant force and if you can wield such a force why not simply setup a POS as there isn't a need to constantly keep a base on the move nor any need for a ship that can mine everything in a belt then turn around, refine it, and start building. -------------------------------------------------------------- Fanboys would make great cult members. |

A capital sized macrominer-banner ship could "fix" mining. The mobile manufacturing array sounds nice tho...

trit prices aren't low because of miners, its because insurance fruad was busted up, The side benifit of course is a decrease in the cost of ships, I like the sound of a factory ship. But this smells like a lot of work and id rather they cleaned up pos's first,

a refining ship for ice would be nice. only 2 ice miners and it can only fit ice miners or regular high slot items. orca sized cargo-hold or maybe an ore only cargo-hold to make it specialized. the capability to self refine to make the ore smaller so you can be out there longer

Edited by: Glyken Touchon on 03/10/2010 10:46:40 I don't like the idea, but if a capital miner was to be introduced, try 3 strip miners, no yield bonus but with bonuses to range/cargo/tank/industry/whatever instead.
I think it would be extremely difficult to introduce a "factory ship" without making something else obsolete.

no since the orca is a capital hauler with a little fleet boosting on the side. it is not supposed to mine.

No miners needed, just tractor the entire asteroid into the Ore hold or Cargohold.

How bout instead of mining give it like a mini-black hole device that sucks all the asteroids in the belt into 1 giant superasteroid and compresses them slightly for easier mining.
PS: this idea will sound much much better if you are drunk.

I think all yall are wrong about the hulk needing to be the best miner. I believe ccp is wrong for thinking this also. There does need to be a bigger miner, whether it be a capital ship or not. 1 miner should be able to equal the amount of gross income in an hour as a person running a lvl 4 mission in high sec. Right now they can't even come close. Which means ccp needs to pull their heads out their own a$$ and stop messing with the economy and just let it be. I don't blame the super low prices on macro miners anymore, I blame it on ccp. Their feable attempts to control the market and how much items are worth is really what is to blame. Someone hit the nail right on the head, and that was insurance fraud. I say yes to a bigger mining ship, and I also say yes to telling ccp to fire the jack off economist that is to blame for all of this and to make the market a completely free market.

There is nothing flawed with the idea of a capital industrial ship.... like the rorqual Why not just allow the rorqual to fit 2 strip miners in its high slots with mining bonus's when it has an active industrial core. As it is a capital ship it can only operate at 0.4 and below so maybe that would have to change
Forget the concept of a ship building factory ship.... for now. I say this because there is the issue of what do you do with the ships you build, unless you are an orca or a carrier type vessel you have no where to store them.
Of course you could consider this two separate proposals so one ship to mine and process and another able to manufacture ships and or modules, ammo etc. There is also the point that this is fine if you only want T1 ships for T2 require specialized components to build.
Death is not the answer only a means to an end. |
