Yep... get rid of them... not knowing is the worst way to catch someone.. make people have to gather intel.. have people scouting their space..
you get rid of local and the map features in 0.0 space.. You will have just won my next payment..

I'm very sure the devs will keep that in mind.

local lets me talk to other 0.0 miners, which then allows us to work as a team.

to be honest, this is probably something that needed to be done at release. or, it will need TONS of adjustment time. you simply cannot remove a function of the game that has been i since launch and even beta. for a whole slew of reasons.
if it were to change, i would hope that the GM's really think it out before doing so. this would need tons of testing. more than any other thing, in my opinion.
there is a fine, but dissasterous line between a fart and a shart. i suggest you make sure which side you want to be on... |

Quote: Keep local , get rid of map.
Why? You need to post some logic to support this, I'd much rather have the exact opposite. Pilots in space map to find people and keep the game from being a $15 a month scavenger hunt for battleships, and clear local so that the victims have to use the same tools as the attackers to avoid being found, namely keeping an eye on the scanner, and using scouts. As it is now, "new pirate in local guys, everyone safe"
How does that make the game better? Let's assume I make my own ship at a capturable station. Why would I include the feature to broadcast who I am every time I come into a new system? What possible good does that do me?

So make local so that you only appear if you type in the chat box in system. You say hi, in local, they convo you or respond. If they don't respond, their name doesn't appear, but then, they didn't want to chat anyway.

I agree to Bob. I'd also rather have the map still available and people only to show up in local once they talk. Like it's been for some time in the Exodus client on the test server, it was perfect.

Not just pirates, but everyone.
Map warns you about a camp up ahead, but once in you cant see how many there are, if any still are.
So, its good strategical but less tactical use that way. Which sounds alot better imo.
Let's keep the map, but make it a little less accurate (as in more delay or more general/inaccurate numbers), and get make local funtions as voluntary chat (as in only show up when talking in it). _______________________________________________

Id rather have both nerfed, i dont see why i should have a fricking homing beacon attached to my a$$ that lets everyone in the EVE universe see where I am, especially in the middle of 0.0.
When u can see big fleets approaching 20 jumps off, or exactly where big mining ops are going on in 0.0, it takes all elements of tactics and suprise out of the game imho.

To the map, i'd say yes, remove the pilots in space function, it stops sooo many battles before they start, it would make 0.0 much more insteresting. Local is useful tho, i would keep it or allow players to leave it maybe. What rod said sounds good to, make it unaccurate, something like "no pilots", "some pilots", "many pilots" :P. ppl voted no?, well, most of changes in eve wasnt voted, and if we had voted em, many would have received a "no". Maybe it will make things harder for some players (for example, me, when defending a system we wouldnt see a big blob coming), but i think is something that should be fixed

yea, new vote. "Should guns be nerfed!", or "Should missles be nerfed!" .. I can see everyone voting yes for these.
Just because it's not popular doesn't mean it's not good for the game.
I want the local change bad. It adds a bit of mystery not knowing who is in the system with you. You can be mining in 0.0 and someone could jump you without you knowing it. Sounds awesome to me ________

Keep them both. I can see nothing wrong with the way it is. CCP did try out the local suggestion on the shiva test server and i believe it was reimplemented because a lot of people wanted it left the way it was.

Shiva never had the nerfed map, iirc.
Also, they nerfed all of empire local, too - which NOBODY asked for.
We just want 0.0 to be, well, 0.0. We can control it, we do patrol it, we want the advantage that all that hard work is worth.

PvP is already too focused around gatecamping.
Remove the ability for anyone to see anyone else, and the only way people will catch anyone else is by gatecamping and huge roving gank fleets.
I don't understand why people can't see this....

Solar systems are supposed to be pretty big places. A combination of novel deployable infrastructure and a revamped locating and hiding system could make control over planets and moons a lot more interesting than control over nearby gates.
As it is, it's too easy to get by owning just a ship and couple modules that can locate anything if you've got 15 minutes to spare. It sucks all the realism out of solarsystems. Just some attractive graphics that are entirely superfluous tactically compared to the local gate.
I would prefer to see the map and local become less relevant rather than weigh the options to have or to have not.

i think that a good idea was trried out on the test server during beta, where you could only see about 5 jumps around you, and 5 jumps away fromany starase your alliance owned, but it turned out to cause too much load on the server to be feasible

Get rid of the people who want to nerf 0.0 warfare. Because that's what you're nerfing by nerfing the map.
The maop is broken at present. Nothing is happening because no-one knows where anyone is. People are sitting arround because they darn't move in 0.0. Boring.

keep the map, makes it easier to find targets imo , because theres no way a fleet commander is gonna send a scout to scour the 1000s of systems in enemy space to find a lone battleship or 2. It'll just result in people sitting in one spot camping a gate hoping for people to find them. It'll make the game extremely boring.
