Saw the setup thread stickied above has no Harpy entry. so, i thought i'd throw my card into the hat. this is my little agent runner Harpy. currently running lvl 2 kill missions and i have brought this with to help corp members on lvl 3 missions without any problems.
Hi Slots: 4 x 150mm Railgun II's 1 x Arbelest Standard Launcher
Mid Slots: 1 x Catalysed Cold-gas Arcjet (1mn MWD) <-- normal setup 1 x Cold-gas Arcjet (1mn AB) <-- deadspace setup 1 x Small Shield Booster II 1 x Small Shield Extender II 1 x Em Clarity Ward Booster
Low Slots: 1 x Micro Aux Power Core 1 x CPU I
===================================
This setup was left over from before the AB-MWD nerf/unnerf (depending on how you look at it). So, with the new changes to the MWD, I really don't need the Small Shield Booster II anymore. And, you could swap out the EM Clarity Ward for another hardner of your choice. Although, with the Caldari ships, the only real thing you need for shields is to boost the EM resist.
Also notice that with this setup you are left with a plethora of powergrid. I've tried to work around that and shorten the numbers by using RCU's and PDU's. But those mods take way more CPU than the MAPC does. so, that' why I use the MAPC instead for now.
Will test out swapping the missle for a rocket launcher. Only real issues is with ships less than 3k away. Those take 10 seconds to kill, instead of the normal 3 or 4. The rockets will come in handy for that.
All in all, this setup does need to be modified. But, then again, the performance keeps me lax about needing to. This setup eats other ships like a stoned highschool kid eats pizza and buffalo wings. I also use this setup to hunt in .1+ systems with ease. Hot knife through butter...

The harpy's a pretty solid hunting ship, but this setup is really not taking best advantage of its abilities. And, it's going to have very sad problems with interceptors.
Here's what I use--
H- 4 x 125mm rail II, Arbalest standard M- 1mn AB II, Gistii Type A Small Shieldbooster (expensive, but worth every penny), Small Cap Battery II, and either an EM hardener or a Shield Boost Amp L- Mag Stab II, PDU II
Invest in one of those Gistii's if you can afford it - and if you can afford a 25 mil frigate you probably can afford a 30mil shieldbooster. It makes the Harpy/Hawk into Gods.
So, some specific points-- 1) The shield extender is a waste of CPU, and your low slots need to be dropped for more useful stuff. Damage mods rock. 2) MWDs do not belong on assault frigates. They make cruisers hit you, which is bad. 3) 150mm Rails don't track very well, but if you prefer to snipe, that's your prerogative, and it'll probably deal with interceptors fairly well. Personally, I prefer to get in there and slug it out with Antimatter.
So if you fit 125mm rails you still get a 27km range with iridium, but you also stop having to use a micro aux and a cpu mod. A mag stab II + 4 125s does way more DPS than 4 150s.

I got this as a link for agent running, so here it is... (vs. Guristas)
High 4x 150mm rails w/AM (T2 when I can get them...) 1x Rocket launcher w/defenders (I can tank BS spawns with these...)
Medium 1x Med Shieldbooster T2 1x Kinetic Hardener 2x Named Cap rechargers
Low 2x Tracking comps T2
CPU is a problem on this ship with the SB, but omg its worth it... As I said I can tank BS spawns indefinately with this setup and hit the frigs (although obviously I cant break the BS tank). The SB only proves a problem with PvPing because it means I can't fit 2 hardeners without a CPU unit ( )
Hope this helps!

well, like i said, old setup and although not the best, it still has no issues at all.
reason i don't like the 125's is their rate of fire increase effects my caps too much. maybe i need to try this without the MWD caploss. i've actually been running with an AB lately due to the increase in complex missions. and i'm finding that i don't really miss the speed. only when i'm travelling is it an issue. so, that's gonna finally come off the harpy. but, honestly, it really doens't need to. just gotta make sure you know the ships limitations and change style.
i also like the antimatter charges as well. and, in the 150mm II the AM gives me an optimal of 22km in the Harpy. Iridium ammo gives me optimal of 58km, which is farther than my targeting range... i have been enjoying the plutonium and it's 27km optimal lately.
i am working on fixing the setup a little. this is an old one and mainly posted to kick off the Harpy on the Setups thread.
thanks for the input!!

Okay, that sounds like a nice setup and all, however :
4x150mm t2 rails = 44 powergrid 1xrocket launchers = 1 powegrid t2 med sb + 3 med mods = 18 powergrid 2xtracking comp t2 = 2 powergrid
a grand total of 65 powergrid, and it has 62.5 with engineering l5. How did you manage that? Are there skills to reduce powergrid needs of any of the above?

Yeah that's what i thought (the skill description seems to suggest that), but SBs are shield subsystems, not boosters, and a t2 med SB takes 15pg for me equipped (have the skill at 4). So no, above fit is not possible with t2 guns equipped.
Shield Upgrades skill, I imagine?

Edited by: flummox on 26/01/2005 18:10:19 cool thread...
i had modified my Agent Running Harpy slightly...
============================= Hi-Slots:
2 x 150mm II's 2 x 125mm II's 1 x Rocket
Mid-Slots:
1 x Cold-gas Arcjet / 1 x Catalyzed Cold-gas Arcjet 1mn MWD II 1 x Shield Booster II 1 x Tracking Computer I 1 x Passive Shield EM Hardner
Low-Slots:
1 x MAPC 1 x Mag Field Stab II ==============================
sure, there is overkill on the PG with the MAPC fitted. but, this allows me to swap the AB for MWD when i need to without changing anything. and, honestly, for missions, you really don't need to cram everything onto this ship. it would be fine with 4 x 75mm Gatlings and a Civ Booster. the harpy is overkill for lvl 2 missions, in my opinion. a merlin with standard fitting would take it from a cakewalk to a slight challenge...
oops. forgot i popped for a 1mn MWD II... 8)

Fitting 4 125s will allow you to replace that wasted MAUX with a tech II magnetic field stabilizer, and give you huge damage. You could probably even fit 2 :) I did, for a while, and it did crazy damage even with my horrible skills.

1xAB II, 1x Dread gurristas booster, 2x cap charger

High = 4x 150mm prototype gauss + AM
Mids = 1nm AB II, Small shield booster II, Webber, 20km disrupter
Low = Mag field stab II, cap relay/armor hardner?
My skills aint great but I hit for 50 dammage against un-hardened shields on a 'hit'. Thats just one gun, theres 4 of em . and the refire rate is about 2.8 seconds..
Optimal range is just over 20 km.
I prefer the prototype gauss to tech II due to the lower fitting requirements. tech II 150's will fit but the only thing that'll go in the 'spare' low is an overdrive
Yes 125's have better tracking, but.. with 150's you can use better ammo (for a given range) and you get a higher dammage multi, so they actualy do more dammage.
Under 10km the tracking difference becomes quite apparent, but thats what you got the webber for
PS this is a PvP setup.. didnt think it was worth starting another thread

I use these two for every purpose, mainly PvP though:
4 * 150mm IIs (optimal: 18km AM, 50km Thungsten) 1 named rocket launcher with defender
1 SB II 1 AB II 1 EM Annointed 1 Cap Recharger
1 DMG Mod 1 Sensor Upgrade II
or better against Inters 4 * 125mm II (opt. without Tracking CPU II 13km with AM) 1 named rocket with defenders
1 SB II 1 AB II 1 EM Hardener 1 Cap/Tracking/Cap Battery, wahtever you can/want fit
1 Dmg Mod II 1 Cap Relay/Sensor Upgrade II
I use mainly AM ammo, but also Thungsten for longer range

I rekon 150mms, the super boost you get from the assult ship skill on range make the tracking that much better at 20kms (antimatter). Plus you can still fit them up very well, im running this atm:
hi: 4x 150mm II, arbelest rocket launcher med: AB II, 2x named cap rechargers, gistii type-A shield booster low: 2x megnetic field stab IIs
With engineering 5 and electronics 4, i have 0.2 cpu and 0.5 pg spare! Really dishes out the dmg , and can hit frigs as close as 6kms not to mention tanking extremely well. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

teh gistii cost more than the ship, but i figure y not, and as for no tanking. . . . i only fight guristas and serpentis so i only need the natrual resistance and that gistii to tank em
Makes no sense fighting lazor or proj rats, when i can kill guristas and serps with ebil setups like the one i have atm
Edit: get your self a "Hardwiring - Zainou 'Deadeye' ZGS100", 3% small hybrid dmg implant too, every little helps -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Well harpy looks awesome and seems really good. I am about to finish the skills for harpy
Engineering - Electronics - Weapon Upgrades - Energy Management etc etc all are on level 5.I suck a bit on gunnery skills nearly all my gunnery skills are on level 3 cuz I am mainly using a raven.
I honestly want to learn the capabilities of harpy, can an harpy get rid of low level BS spawn (500k) or is it possible to destroy 750k BS'.How good can it tank?As i said above i dont have good gunnery skills but it wont take time to increase them with 26 will and 26 perception.
I have a gisti-A sm shield booster in my hangar to fit my harpy when my skill is over but honestly i dont wanna lose an item that costs 2 times more expensive than an harpy.I dont have much PVP experience, just engaged 2-3 times in my raven against another BS' and won.
So i need some advice from experienced harpy pilots.

I have level 5 energy management skills so i get 343 max cap and 90 second recharge. I can keep everything running including the booster full blast. Thats 53 shield every 2 seconds constantly with your lowest resist at 55% and defenders makes it a great tank. It is a fast awesome mission runner.

Edited by: Capt Tryton on 22/03/2005 06:32:49 Edited by: Capt Tryton on 22/03/2005 06:30:40 This little ship is a real bad boy if you have the skill to use it. I can do incredible things in this boat that I wouldnĘt dream of doing in other ships. NPC missions, gauntlet fighting or belt hunting donĘt pose a real problem in this boat if you know what your doing, can take a bit of getting used to. The PVP set up in this boat is a guarded secret and I will not tell but I will give the NPC set up, which is much like what you have seen in this thread.
High (4) 125mm II (1) named launcher with defensive missiles loaded Med (1) AB T2 ( I will use a Gas Injected MWD from time to time) (1) cap rechager T2 (1) Shield booster T2 (1) Mission specific shield hardener, mostly EM Low (2) Magnetic Field Stablizers
This is without a doubt my favorite boat, it tanks, shreds and out runs the competition and is virtually unstoppable in level 3 NPC missions, if you learn how to use it. If you like speed and quick loot recovery this is the boat for you and itĘs just a ball to fly in battle.

Well this is the set-up Im goona put on my harpy once I get it: (This is for PVE) High: 4 125mm II, Arbalest Standard (with what ever type missile is app) Med: 1m AB II, Small Shield Booster II, Passive/Active Hardner (dont have ne uber cap skils to probably be the passive one) and Cap Recharger 1 (wud like tech 2 but the prices put me off incase i lose the ship) Low 2 Mag Stab II
Now I want to get the Gistii Ab and SB but i thought i should do the relevant skills in shield/cap/gunnery/navigation first quite high before i risk more expensive items.
Anyway how will this ship fare in PVE such as level 3 missions or deadspacing

With that setup you'll probably do really well on most lvl 3 missions. I love doing lvl 3s with a af its fun to watch the other larger ships blow up while they do crap damage to you. I have done most all of them with a similar setup to that. If you find yourself taking a lot of damage then switch out to defenders, but for most any lvl three you should be ok.
However dont get*****y due to the ease of lvl 3s with a harpy and try lvl 4s immediately. My friend and i wanted to try lvl fours with 2 afs and we almost got our asses handed to us. It was the new damsel mission with the four mercenary 30k frig npcs....wow...those things are ridiculously hard. I was almost completely out of armor on the enyo and barely made it out, as they scramble and hit like crazy. They were hitting for 30-50 damage on the enyo. Lucky my friend had a harpy there too to help polish em off. Have since tried other lvl 4s with harpy and enyo and some are doable, usually take a pal or two though if we want to do a 4 with afs..helps make it possible or faster.

My setup is:
High:
4x 125mm t2 /am 1x te-2100 /whatever suits me best for the moment
Med:
1x 1mn AB II 1x sm Shield Boost II 1x named active hardener of choise, mostly em 1x F-b10 cap recharger / cap recharger II
Low:
1x PDU II 1x Mag Field Stab II
Think it looks like a decent setup, but my tank is not very good, and damage is horrible, what should I do/change? Going to buy a gistii shield boost soon, but that wont increase my damage, my gunnery skills are pretty ok, mostly lvl 4, some lvl3... I get some real good hits sometimes, but that's 1 out of 30 shots, would prefer 20-25 out of 30... anyways I do 140+ at this lucky moments :)
Any good hints for what I can do about this?

Seems all our setups are pretty much the same I love the ship. Train your skills so you can have double T2 damage mods in lows, it is worth it. I use a passive t2 hardener for EM to save cap.

Its really a shame most of the setups are nearly identical, but the ship dosen't really have a fitting layout for a new abstract setup

High: 4x150mm Protos 1xArbalest Std/Rocket(defenders for bad BS spawn) Medium: 1xGistii Small Sheild booster 1xGistii 1MN Afterburner 2xCap Recharger II (can leave sheild booster on non stop with guns and ab on ) Low: 2xPower Diagnostic II or 2x tech2 damage modifiers
Works like a dream... the gistii booster is the best thing out there for a af... works very nice. Worth the investment getting top of the line AF gear

Edited by: Andrew Redburn on 21/07/2005 08:26:45 Edited by: Andrew Redburn on 21/07/2005 08:26:30 Right now I use for PvP and NPCing:
4 * 150mm II 1 * Rocket Launcher with defenders or rockets
1 * Gist Shield Booster 1 * named AB or Tech II (if u can fit it with everything else) 1 * named EM Hardener 1 * named Webber (works like a charm against close intys and at long range u kill them anyway)
1 * Dmg Mod II 1 * OD I or if enough CPU/PG left low slot tracking or 2nd dmg mod
I got close to 600m/s with no sig penality which means I am hit quit hard and dmg of missles is greatly reduced as well. Tanking with the gist is just plain great and u can run everything almost forever (of course with maxed skills in any cap related fields).
actually if one is reading this thread some things are obvious: 1.) get a gist shield booster 2.) use AB and by no means MWD 3.) one dmg mod or more is most times recommended 4.) defenders are most times recommended
the rest depends on purpose and situation.

Signed... i actually started to use a setup like this not long ago... it rocks!
I say go for 4x150mm II forget the tracking of 125's... harpy has a 20% range bonus per skill level and you don't need that much tracking at 20km do you?

I saw a reply earlier where someone fitted neutron blasters on the Harpy. I think this is a good idea for those lvl 3 missions where you will have drones or inties which commonly close to less than 5k or so.
I have four proto 125s and I have always enjoyed them. However, I really like the blasters' higher tracking and damage modifier. Rate of fire is about the same.
Anyone else a fan of blasters on the Harpy??
P.S. I have also used blasters on an Eagle with great success(for PvE, of course). Very fun.

In most cases recharge is better than capacity. Unless someone wants to prove me wrong with the math. Slightly off topic, but... I love the similarities to the Enyo...
Enyo just has 2 Mids and 4 lows, rather than the other way around. Whats the shield hp total with max skills?
I get 300 shield and 750 armor with my current skills. Does the Harpy get something similar, like say 750 Shield and 300 armor?
Its a shame there isn't a decent named small armor rep that works as well as the Gistii SB...
Anyone think the Gisti AB would be worth it for an Enyo instead of the AB II, or is the cost prohibitive for that module? =============================================== The Nest

here is my PvE setup - this soloes all guristas lvl3s i have tried (ent been offered an extrav yet) with complete ease
4 x 150mm Railgun II (antimatter, optimal 20km) 1 x Arby Rocket
Gistii A-type shield booster (i paid 50mil for this - i woulda paid 80 happily) Shield hardener (kinetic for guristas) 1MN ABII Cap charger (fixed-link - ent got CPU for t2, didn't have an fb10 in hangar at the time)
t2 Mag field stabiliser (dmg mod) t2 tracking enhancer
This works beatifully - i use it for low sec ratting (ent taken it to 0.0), lvl3 missions and as the tank in level4 missions (it can take down a dread pith destroyer if u give it enough time and a few thousand antimatter )
i am considering fitting 125mms, and switching the tracking enhancer for another dmg mod, and adding a standard launcher instead of the rocket.

Edited by: Khristopher on 27/08/2005 08:07:50 I use:
4x 125mm II Arb Standard Launcher AB t2 Small Shield Boster t2 named active EM shield hard (only switch it on when needed) Named Cap Recharger (need to buy a t2) 2x t2 dmg mods
Can handle any lvl 3 mission (Caldari Navy and Mordu's Legion) including those angel/merc/drone missions. I can also kill gurista BS rats in 0.0 belts (biggest I've tried so far in it was a 750k rat with cruiser/frig escort). I'm sure with a gistii booster and more expensive gear it could handle even more as far as 0.0 belt hunting.

The beauty of cap batteries is they add capacity and as a side effect of that, more recharge as well.
Some quick numbers, with both cap skills at lv4.
With a t2 small cap battery, you have 430cap and 120regen, giving 3.5cap/sec base regen. With a t2 cap recharger, you have 330cap and 96regen, giving 3.4cap/sec base regen.
I've run a few other comparisons (t1, best named, etc) against each other and the small cap battery wins every time. The only problem is fitting, but its very viable in many setups.

Small Gistii vs. Medium Gistum SB
Is everyone using the Small Gisti SB because the medium still uses too much cap and/or gimps your fittings? Or is the medium even better but too expensive for most peeps?

That.. and they also dont drop. (Well, if they do, they're reeeeaaaallly rare)
And SB = shield booster, smartbomb, sensorbooster.. tis annoying. In this case, its shield booster.

Medium Tech II cost: 2-3m Gistii A-type cost: 50-60m :)
While the medium tech 2 does provide a few more shields per sec (30 vs 28.5, as you see the difference is very small) it's the cap cost that matters. A medium II uses 20 cap per sec, a gistii just 6.5.
If you have good cap skills you can leave the gistii running 24/7 while the medium II would dry out you cap in just a few boosts. This constant boost is what makes it possible to tank just about anything with it. Just today I went afk while tanking the whole guristas extravaganza level 3 bonuse level. Try doing that with a med 2 :)
And fitting matters as well of cource, 21 vs 58 cpu and 2 vs 13 pg.

For COSMOS lvl 3 missions vs. 3x Bandits/Mercenary Wingmen, bosses, assorted cruisers and frigs:
4x 125mm rails, EMP missiles/rockets Shield Booster, 2x Webbers, Kinetic passive hardener 2x Warp core stabs
Don't laugh... three tacklers are bad news. Use T2 mods only if you're 100% sure you'll survive the engagement. Then take them off, because you're probably wrong :)
No need for an AB/MWD when you're webbed three times over. Definate need for 2x WCS so you can warp away if needed after taking down one of the tacklers.
Surviving to be able to later refit the Harpy with T2 rails, mag stabs and ABs, and complete the mission, is well worth it.

I wouldn't call myself an experienced harpy pilot, but I've been flying one for a week or two now, and am quite pleased with it (although the Hawk works equally well, and is quite a bit cheaper).
Imho a gistii shield booster is a bit overkill. Sure it's nice to be able to run the sb pretty much non-stop, but the Harpy has enough shield resistance and agility to allow for quick 'warp out-regen shields-warp back in' tactics. As someone else already suggested above it's cheaper to invest in some damage/shield boosting implants.
I can do most lvl 3 mission solo in a harpy using the following setup:
Hi; 4x 125mm rails 1x arbalest std launcher
Med; 1x small SB II 1x active shield hardener (usually EM) 1x tracking comp II 1x afterburner II
low; 1x PDU II 1x heat sink II
If you insist on doing lvl4 missions and/or BS spawns in your Harpy, then yes, you'll probably need one of them gistii shield boosters. ---

1 1mn AB II 1 Small shield Booster II 1 Target Painter II 1 Named Web
2 Mag Field Stab II's
That will be able to solo any BS spawn with or without inties, TP and web them, can handle the 750k Guristu BS, takes a while to break its tank though. Start on the intys (as ther the only things able to hit ya :P) then cruisers to BS.

Thats what I did, and now my Enyo tanks better, and since I use 2* PDUII in low I can use neutron blasters instead of ion blasters, increasing my damage as well.
I love blasters, so if/when I get an Harpy I will equipp it something like this: High: 4 * Neutron, 7.5km nos Mid: gisti AB, gisti SB, webifier, cap recharger II Low: Tracking mod, Mag Stab
With iron and this setup, you will be able to hit frigates 8km away, you will tank well and do some icky damage up close with antimatter. And you will never run out of cap with the nos and decent skills.

So are people able to solo level 3 missions with 125mm rails in this bird?
I am starting to think that the blaster avenue makes the most sense as it allows for you to take more advantage of the great speed of these ships and forces the rats to engage at HIGH tracking rates which should further mitigate your damage. But this takes me a long way away from my usually long range Caldari set ups...would love to hear more before sinking the capital into this rig.
Some day I might actually get a signature, Ulric

You can solo every L3 mission except for the extravaganza bonus levels in a Harpy with T2 125mm rails.

If you're using T2 125mm rails, T2 Light Ion blasters have exactly the same fitting. The Harpy's relatively low speed (~600m/s even with Gisti AB) and horrible agility make this not so great of an idea for general use on L3 missions.
I have found that blasters are the way to go running L4 missions in the Harpy -- T2 blasters with two damage mods will easily break the tank of any NPC battleship you might find in Blockade or Gone Berserk.

So does the assualt ship take more dps from larger vessels (cruisers and battleships) or more damage from smaller ships designed to hit small fast ships (frigs, inteceptors, and other assault ships, elite frigs)?
Do that answer change from one to the other if the damage is from missiles instead turrets?
I know when I assisted on level 4 missions with my BC, I would usually be the tank, because I took less damage from the battleships. So I am just wondering if the same is true now, but because there is just less shield, that the damage dealt from elite frigs and other frig rats may be the most dangerous damage faced by the assualt ships on missions.
Thanks again, Ulric

Yes, altho I personally use 150s because I like doing 240-250dmg wrecking shots from 18-20km with antimatter.
NPC BSes tend to be a pushover to tank. Kin/Therm torps are maybe 20 damage, I think a 900k rat was doing 8 or 9 dmg to me with them while I was ABing around killing cruisers going 513m/s. Ofcourse I wasn't solo, I was with a friend who was using an eagle. Solo I don't think my 150mm rails and 6.92ish dmg mod can break the tank of any BS NPc over 400k or so.
I honestly can't imagine even a LVL 4 GE being hard to tank in a harpy with even a Gistii small SB. If you orbit a cruiser or BS who remote boosts you, no way you'll die.

PVE SET-UP
HI: 4x 125mm T2, 1 Arbalest Rocket Launcher
MED: Gistii A-Type 1MN AB, Gistii A-Type Small SB, Webber, Small Cap Battery II <-- (USE THIS)
LOW: 1 PDU T2, 1 Mag Stab T2
I do roughly 45 damage on a hit, and an excellent hit gets me about 75-80, wrecking for 140. Be sure to train up motion prediction high so you pull more excellent and wrecking hits. Also don't skimp; train up the Assault Ships skill and the small railgun spec skill... you will appreciate it.
