Electricity for free
Would be awesome to light some lamps at night, since electricity is so expensive :/ and sometimes I just need a couple lamps up in my small unit. ---

Sounds a great deal like stealing from the phone company (the electricity is there to power phones, after all), but i mean if they dont stop you..

I have never dealt much with electrical wiring, but are we sure that the power coming into the phone jack does not come in through a separate line that actually connects to the main power for the residence and this is nothing but an elaborate device used to tap into another 'socket'?

Its a terrible, stupid idea. Phone wires yes, do provide some small amount of electricity (and no, not on the home power line) but phone cables aren't designed to handle anywhere near that much power.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.

lol you get a easy way to check go and switch off the power in your house and pick up the phone and make a call just saying
PD if you phone is external powered go and buy a damn good old phone because yours is a energy vampire :)

Anyone running a large antenna can tell you they do gather a charge which has to be grounded in order to safeguard electronics. I'd imagine it's the same dynamic.

Don't expect to get much wattage out of it before the phone line literally melts... and then get charged for the repairs when it becomes obvious you were the one that caused the damage. Might as well just buy some economic lightbulbs or even LED lights instead and pay the regular power bill for them.

i used to play with electricity a bit as a kitten lol
phone line was one of them, i remember there are something like five points on it, and if you short a couple of them it makes the phone ring constantly. i used to short the pins on the upstairs point, and make the phone downstairs ring. trouble was, the ring would be constant so i had to time breaks for it to make the "brr-brr....brr-brr" sound to trick the family lol
i think i was in single figure age at that point, so before i had any lessons on the subject :)
good times

Indeed, because you can't do that from your car battery or one of those small solar panels designed with charging phones in mind... no siree.

Let's see ... how did that work ...
Power From Farts:
1) Eat lots of beans
2) Vent personal methane into a tube so as to turn multiple tiny windmills
3) Capture methane at end of wind mill tube
4) Burn Methane then route exhaust to turn tiny windmill
5) Boil Water - route steam to turn tiny turbine
6) Windmill and turbine generate Electricity
7) Profit.
*shrug*
Then there was something about routing the output of your toilet to a storage tank where you also threw your garbage from which yet more methane was reclaimed.
Bio Gas / Methane Harvest
One of the things they are doing with old land fills, is installing pipes that DO reclaim the methane.
*shrug*
Landfill Gas Monitoring
There's free Energy Every Where - you just have to know how to find it and use it.
Lets see ... what was it? Something about a tread mill ... walking the dog on the tread mill ... capturing the ejecta from the dog coming off the end of the tread mill and routing that to your bio gas reclamation unit?
...
Just all kinds of things ... Look what they did with pigs in Beyond Thunderdome?

Here's an even better (and less weird) way to make your own free (cheap at least) electricity.
1. Buy a mounted training bike. 2. mount a dynamo hooked to a converter hooked to an adapter hooked to a battery unit onto the training bike 3. buy lots of bread and peanut butter and a knife 4. make peanutbutter manwiches 5. eat the peanutbutter manwiches 6. let the peanutbutter manwiches be digested in your digestion tract transforming it into usable sugars (and fats) 7. convert produced sugars and fats into electricity by riding your training bike 8. get slim, fit and healthy by riding your training bike 9. ??? 10. PROFIT!!!
Tbh I would recommend this over your seriously gross (and flammable) fart approach.. And that's not even taking into concideration that not everyone actually produces methane in their digestive tracts (only a certain percentage of people), farts are a rather unreliable and low-energy resource, farts are rather difficult to time and... dude, it's farts!! __________________________________________________

or better go to Thailand/ similar country's, buy a slave - depend on age will cost more or less - but whit 2k $ you can get one smuggle this in your home country make a sound isolated room put the bike there get some handcuffs or a chain slave neck and teach him how to use the bike
i bet your slave will much happier riding your bike that working all day chained to sewing machine in home country

I tried to edit that a couple seconds after posting but he quoted it too quick. Figured someone would catch it, and was a bit surprised he didn't. My own fault for falling for such a blatant derail.

Warning Facts:
Quote: One of the relative miracles of modern times is the reliability of the phone system. The power goes out fairly often for most people. Sometimes it is only out for a second, but other times it can be out for minutes, hours or even days. Your telephone, on the other hand, is always working (as long as you pay the bill). Why is that?
The article How Telephones Work talks about the simplicity of phones and the telephone network. The article shows you how, with just a 9-volt battery and a resistor, you can create your own intercom system using two normal telephones. A phone will work as long as it is getting between 6 and 12 volts at about 30 milliamps. In other words, it takes very little power to operate a telephone.
Between your house and the phone company's office there is a dedicated pair of copper wires for your phone. Those wires are almost always buried, so ice storms and hurricanes will not cut them. The phone company supplies the power that your phone needs using your dedicated copper pair. So even if the power goes out in your house, the phone still gets the power it needs through the phone line. And at the phone company office there is an extensive battery system, as well as a backup generator, to supply power during a power failure. If the power goes out, the batteries and generators keep the office fully powˇered. Therefore, all of the phones connected to the office are fully powered as well.

[sarcasm] Yes, it's some magical esoteric effect at work, NOT the big generators at the phone company HQ pumping power into the lines so they can function properly, no sir, it couldn't possibly be that ! [/sarcasm]

The idea we have everything figured out and there are no more secrets is anathema to science.
Science is a long series of corrected mistakes.
