I will be purchasing this Fallout 3 expansion pack from a local purveyor of gaming media when i wake tomorrow.
Expect critiques of every slight nuance and vague claims of propaganda from me over the next few days.

22nd in Europe ... and isn't it a bit expensive for an expansion? :-/
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

In Gigabytage it's larger than the original Fallout 3, which is the only thing legitimizing it as a new game.
It's the exact same game engine and many of the same models and textures, but i've always enjoyed the Fallout series, even 3 and all the expansions, so i'm optimistic about this.

I haven't followed the development closely but it does have some of the original names working on it doesn't it? That should count for something.

For me, just having another big wide open slice of the Fallout world to get lost in is enough. Whether it's all new or old developers, i'm sure they'll refine and expand on things which were in Fallout 3.
It being pretty much one giant expansion, or new zone of Fallout 3, isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Apparently this is Fallout 3 done right. Van Buren Baby!
Still, a list of all the W-RPGs I've like reads like an itemized list of their works. I'd be surprised if they screwed it up.

I don't mind they're using the same engine. After all, graphics a game make not huh? I'm hoping they are going to tweak it so the game is a lot harder though with a greater variety of monsters. I like the way there is going to be more crafting and hopefully there will be other cool ways you can influence the environment (rather than just repair, gun sights, and furniture).

I read of Bethesda forums that they have allegedly removed ridiculously high HP enemies and replaced them by hordes of lower HP enemies. THAT IS SO FREAKING COOL! It was terrible to watch enemies taking several clips of ammo before going down.
Will probably buy it today and start preload.

I really want to play this!
I may well go out and buy it on release, but I guess I really should finish Fallout 3 first..
Bought F3 on release, traded it in for the GOTY edition, and I STILL have loads to do. I'm the type of player who has to explore every single nook and cranny to not miss anything. Then I'll eventually have to play it again to be evil instead and blow up Megaton
Currently exploring Mothership Zeta.. I love this game!

Fallout New Vegas is developed by Obsidian Entertainment which is a successor to Black Isle Studios that worked on original Fallouts. People that created original fallout are working on this one such as Chris Avellone and Feargus Urquhart.
The only one that's missing is Chris Taylor I think and he is working on Fallout MMO.
Expect a lot of Bethesda fanbois hate for New Vegas as it's probably gonna be very different. I expect a real RPG for a change with good dialogues and well developed characters.

Edited by: Professor Tarantula on 19/10/2010 14:46:58 ffs, trying to install it here but steam keeps crashing or the servers are too busy to install from the disk i just bought.
I decided to buy the disk instead of buying it over steam just because i'd rather not have to deal with steam to run every single game i buy, and it turns out it's another one you're forced to play through steam.
Really starting to hate it.

Well i was only able to play for 15 minutes before i had to get ready for work.
From what i did see it was great! they really made the game more complex like a fallout 1 or 2. If you play Hardcore mode (which if you want to get you moneys worth outta the game you will) it adds a lot of cool factors you need to keep in mind while playing.
some of these extra factors are H2O bar, SLP (sleep) and, FOD (food) bar. which you will need to keep an eye on just like you did your RAD bar.
also, stim packs and sleeping will not magically grow back your limbs. you will need the aid of a doctor or a doctors kit to mend missing or broke limbs.
lots of other cool features in hardcore mode and new vegas i really enjoyed seeing in that brief time i played but, im back from work so its time to play! __

That sounds like some good features got added to the game. I would also like to applaud implementing a hardcore difficulty setting, that actually changes the way you need to play the game and doesn't just add more health to enemies or make your guns pea shooters.

See how easy it is being a great game developer. You just need to listen to player feedback, implement *cough*steal*cough* the improvements they want to see in the game and alter them to fit your intended game design.

Should be a manual .pdf in the game directory, but i can't say where steam would have put it.

OK got hardcore mode turned on.
Looked in the steam apps directory where FO:NV is. No sign of a manual.
I love the FO1 and FO2 manuals, hope they kept the style.

I checked out the last fallout at a friend's recording studio on some giant plasma tv they had, it looked sweet as hell, then we watched the trailers for the new one.
I'm definitely going to get this...eventually lol...there are too many games coming out in the next few months that I'm going to have to go through already.
Might have to unsubscribe my EVE for a year again :P

Liked Fallout 3? You'll like Fallout: New Vegas.
When I say it's more of the same, I mean it in a good way.
There's more game in NV then in 3. It's actually made by the real Fallout developers.
Sure it uses the same mechanics and engine as FO3, but the same could be said about FO1 and FO2.

Well right now im having a major problem with the saved games. it seems it only remembers like my third quick/auto save during my game even though im quick/auto saving regularly. they only seem to disappear after i exit the game too.
went to the tech support forums for NV and found other ppl were having my problem.
http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1122356-problems-with-save-games/
dont think ill be playing NV till this gets fixed. __

to be fair, quicksave and quickload were always 'bad' ways to save/load - it doesnt fully reinitialize the engine and all these random things or something.. it just kinda puts assets back where they were.
And i still cant kick the habit knowing that :\

I don't care if this is the third game using the same engine. This has to be some record for a nude patch. A very sad and pathetic record. A patch that I feel very sad and pathetic for downloading.
But to quote SF Debris "It's odd that in a game where I can see a person's exploded brain, I can't see their nipple"
