This is a part of our strategy to separate work like this from the expansions. That way new features don't suffer from unexpected breakage in unrelated areas and we can better focus our efforts in the post-deployments phases and more rapidly respond (as you may have noticed with the flurry of client hotfixes after Tyrannis 1.1 was deployed).
We are going to continue the 6-month / twice-a-year cycle for expansion but probably release more often in between.

While we're being transparent about this stuff, we should mention that there's another big change coming up in the next few weeks: moving our inventory service to 64-bit identifiers.
Does that mean it may be possible that BPO and BPC will get a different icon now since you get more bits for item identification?

A new edit control for EVE Mail is undergoing testing. We have fixed the performance issues and we hope that the backspace/delete in line issues have been fixed as well. This new control will also be used in info window notes, channel motd edit, character sheet bio, channel input and notepad.
Nice.
àthen I'll go ahead and be mean/constructive by submitting a couple of bug reports on other things that are still not quite working the way they were before. Don't want to read hidden meaning where there is none, so can you clarify if you do intend to address that issue at some point? e.g. is it on a schedule somewhere?
It would be so awesome to be able to easily keep the two types separated (including in list view).
Thanks for the update on the UI work, I'm really looking forward to the improvements!

^^Maybe?
The UI has always been a minor disappointment. Good to see that work is being done in this area, even if its a while before we actually see new UI visuals.

It's not scheduled but we are aware of players' desire to have this feature.

Perhaps next time you should tell us before if you plan to do something like this again. Most people who play eve are pretty understanding and won't hate you too much if you're honest.
This.
Maybe next time gives us a heads up.
E.g Dear Players,
We are about to release a substantial upgrage to our UI. We have done extensive internal QA tests but believe that some bugs may pass to Tranquility. In the first 72 hours of the release we will have all hands on deck working overtime to deal with any bug reports that are filed and we will be constantly present in the forums. We apologise in advance for an difficulties you encounter but rest assured that the long term results will be a much much better gaming experience for us both.
Regards, CCP
As annoying as the bugs would be I'd be much happier having read something like this in advance and prob much more helpfull towards solving the problems.
Edit: Maybe run a competition for the top 100 bug reports filed, as in best written, most descriptive, most helpful etc. Give out a few ships here and there or SP to the top 100. Something to ease the pain.
Both of these ideas need to go to the CSM immediately. the players want to help! just because your moving from SME to Enterprise dosent mean you have to leave us behind *puppy eyes*

Sometimes I play full screen when I want the full awesomeness of the graphics. Sometimes I play dual client on one physical screen. When playing dual client each of the clients is below my screens maximum res so that I can have them overlaping and see important bits from both at the same time.
Now switching between Full screen and lower client res ( windowed ) mode is a real pain.
The problem is the UI never rearranges itself correctly or even sensibly.
All sorts of problems seem to happen when changing res.
Windows that are stuck to one another somtimes appear in the wrong order. E.g. selected item window jumps to below the overview rather than above it and the drone window overlaps somewhere in the middle making it inaccesable.
Sometime windows that are now too large stay to large and you cant resize them because the bottom of the window is off screen.
etc etc etc.
So each time I change res its a lot of fiddling round.
Rather than this "Inteligent" UI rearange code we seem to have at the moment wouldnt it be simpler for you and us to have UI code that simply remembers the position of each window for each character for each resolution ??
Also while I'm bleating on.
Seen a weird one where moving a pinned window that is snapped onto another window causes all the snap attached windows to move with it in one big block. Highley unuseful !

Would really like a fixed font choice for mail, so I can make neatly aligned columns.
I understand that these changes are necessary steps in that direction, plus so much more. Thanks for taking this beast on, finally! |

Hmmm... I don't want to sound too unsympathetic, but only half-marks I think.
I can only echo the sentiments of a few of the earlier posters:
Putting out the reasons for the UI changes after the event, weeks after breaking the game for a large number of players, and maintaining what looked like a sullen silence in the face of player complaints... well, in those circumstances the blog just reads as an excuse - "sorry we broke it, but we meant well and you'll thank us when the dust has settled".
If you'd have released this blog before the 1.1 release and the subsequent patching fiascos, and had fixed some of the errors that you yourself admit were "obvious" before putting it on TQ, you'd have had an easier ride.
However, you may be learning. I appreciated the numerous apologetic phrases in the blog - the first note of apology I've read from CCP on this matter actually - and was interested to read this useful advance warning.

I look forward to seeing the blog about the changes some time before the actual changes hit Sisi - where I expect they'll be tested to death before porting to TQ.

Nice to know what was happening
So are you guys keeping the option open for a UI overhaul artistically? One of the things I envy about WoW is the completely customisable UI, you could literally program almost any type of UI you wanted, from function to style. I understand why EVE doesn't have this, it makes sense, but it would be hella awesome if the theme option did more than change the colour.
Of course performance should always be a priority, so I'm thankful for that.

Posting in a thread about a damage control dev blog full of the usual "we broke everything now but in future iterations everything will be awesome" bull****.
Can't wait for the next iteration of the "the code was already broken on our test server and we still patched it to our live server and still haven't completely fixed it on either server" story. --

Replacing dirty hacks with clean code is never a fun thing to do (considering the dirty hacks are there just because something easy was necessary) and I can sit through every error imaginable knowing that something considerate to the future of the project is being done about it.
EVE redefines the meaning of "MMO" from "Rushed build to make some money then drop the servers and the player base after serious stagnation and few loyal customers remain after repeatedly asking more money of them to keep up with the latest content built on the same, old tired code" to something still fun after 6 or 7 years. ------------------------------- The fox chases for her meal, but the rabbit runs for her life. |

I hope you don't think the UI is fully back to what it should be now. Spacecans still won't stack and still open in the middle of my screen, and new convos still open bottom left corner, half off the screen.
And while you're fixing the UI, can you please make it remember my chat window preferences? I hate having to change each new chat window's font size, no avatar display etc. |

Hey, know how it is, it's a ****ty job, someone's gotta do it. Actually had exact same job this summer. Much drama no fun. (* Still, how could you not see these bugs ! *) Nevertheless, PLEASE rush this fix as this is truly the most annoying problem I've had in EVE since ages. Sol: A microwarp drive? In a battleship? Eh I'm happy to criticise when you guys screw up but this all seems pretty par for the course. Some minor teething over a relatively major and much needed overhaul. People be overreacting. The communication never hurts though so devblog is all welcome.
If you can squeeze some bracket performance in somewhere that'd be even more awesome. _
