I know people will either like the idea, and others will hate it but CCP please Let us get a one time character rename when we get to remake our avatars.
EVE is not like other mmo's where you can just spend a few months grinding up a new character if you want to redo it. You are stuck forever with the name, Even the character bazaar will never give you a name you really want. So I propose a one time character rename of one toon per account in a 30 day window of the lauch. I know many out there including myself have a toon that really needs a name we enjoy.
I know many could see this being exploited and a way for people to hide their identity from bad deeds but your sec status/kill history/employment history/contacts will stay the same. Besides if you really want to hide who you are the character bazaar already lets you do that. So name changing to me would not hurt a thing. This will only be a one time deal to, this will not be an on going thing. To me CCP hold on to too many old and game joking policies and game mechanics, such as the learning system and the learning skills which is another hot topic thread which there are many of. Please CCP at least think about it.
Another idea to make it so people know what your first name is, is by maybe sending all members that have that character on their contact list a eve mail stating the old and new name. Another idea is in the employment history have a note of the time at which the character applied for a new identity. I just don't see how something you can even do in real life can't be done in a game. To me that is even a part of role play to invent a new identity not be stuck with the same one forever, specially since it happens in the real world but that's just my two cents.

I think if CCP ever does implement a feature like this, that it will have a $25 pricetag slapped on it.

Why would you use that awful word, "toon" and then use the appropriate word, "character" in the text of your post? I don't know if I'm supposed to dislike you or not now.

I would support this, sensible way to generate income for ccp. As for knowing a players history,simply list all your old names in bio, problem solved.

I've got mixed feelings on this.
If CCP does this, they should announce it about six (or more) months out, and make damn sure folks have all the time in the world to add folks to their in game "I don't like this jerk", along with a LARGE page for notes on the individuals in question.
Yep, I've got a written **** list. I can count the folks on it with one hand, so its short, but it exists. (and NONE are on it for game related actions or smack).
Play nice while you butcher each other.

That's why I think an eve mail should go out to all who have that character on their contacts and a corp mail should go out to. I only have one character I would even rename on one of my accounts, the other account I would not change any names.

Actions have consequences in this game and it should stay that way.
I have a terrible name because I thought I'd make a trial account for some kicks rather than resubbing fully to eve then got horribly hooked and now have this daft name. Nonetheless its a name with a reputation for better or for worse and if everyone could rename their characters it would utterly devalue the permanency that is this beautiful, messy, one sharded mmo ♥

I feel that a name change feature would be perfectly fine to implement, however the previous character name should remain logged for people to see.

my thoughts exactly.
previous name history as well as previous corps.
However i think that the times you can change it should be limited to once a year or just once lifetime. we wouldnt ant to make it too easy for Scammers and corp theifs to go unnoticed.
I went with the name i did because i wanted to play eve! After a few months i thought up a name that suited me perfectly but ofc i am already stuck and too late to reroll an alt. I think this is the best reason to want to change it (or simply hating the one you have so much anything else would do) and we should be able too.
also make searching for the old name bring up the char its was assgined to originally so people that leave for X time can find old freinds still etc

Oh don't worry, very soon there will be a rename for plex feature implemented.
Also, change sex for plex, ship skins for plex, alliance banners for plex, instant ammo for plex...
In incarna you will have pets for plex, ornaments plex...
Hell you will even be able to get a night with Hilmar, Oveur or Torfi for a plex. Because if they were willing to sell the game...

No. I like the fact that if you do ******ed things then it sticks to your name forever. The only times I think changing a name should be viable is when a) You misspelt it or b) when transfering from one player to the next (not two accounts of the same player). There are some pretty nice characters for sale but with some equally aweful names that makes you not want to buy them.

Ak'athra J'ador I understand your anger but the things you mention you can already do for the most part, Buy plexes sell for isk go to character bazaar and bam new sex/history/name. All I want to see done is a name change that would be logged in the history of the character. With the character bazaar if I really wanted I could swap out a toon with really no effort every month and do whatever the hell I wanted to do with that toon and then sell it and hide all I had done. There are a lot of of people who make most their isk buying toons fixing them up a bit and selling them off.
To me a name change pales in comparison to what goes on in the character bazaar.

Imagine, having to actually think before you name yourself Jonny Starman, or Darth Darkstar, or Kosimick Kowboy, or whatever.
The taint of other MMO's is evident by some of the names I see, the taint of alcohol and illegal comestibles is evident by others.
Personally, I get a kick out of scrolling local and seeing the variety of names - gives you a good idea of where that player's head was at when the character was created, not realizing it's like a tattoo, and lasts forever.

I completely agree with the OP, a one time character rename would be a fantastic idea. My alt needs a rename.

I'd also like changing my race/bloodline because in many cases the new avatars don't look like the old ones at all. The current version of Khanid females don't look like they're 16 years old and don't have asian eyes. Vheriokors don't have very tight eyes and have very thick lips now. And so on.

I don't know why people keep saying a name change will hide your deed's. All your history will still be the same Sec/Standings/Kill record/Contacts/Employment history. To me that's all you need, you can find out about anyone through just killboards and Employment history really. Also there is already a way for people to hide their identity, Character Bazaar that allows you to hide everything where a name change does not.

Because your reputation is not tied simply to KB stats or Employment History.
If Istvaan decided to change his name, you'd still see GHSC is his Employment history but he'd say "I was just an alt, parked there to pump up the number of members. I didn't do any of those naughty things." You can see what Corp anyone was a member of, but you don't know what they did in (or to) that Corp if the name is changed.
Page through C&P for a few hours. Look at the "Blank is a Corp Thief" or "Blank ganked 10 of his own Gang memebrs" threads. Now imagine how much more annoying they would be if they could change their name.
