A fifth optional patch for Tyrannis 1.1 will be deployed during downtime on Thursday, October 21 which will fix several issues reported to us following the release of Tyrannis 1.1. While the patch is optional, we would encourage everyone to apply the update to ensure your gameplay is improved. A full list of updated patch notes can be found here.
The reason for deploying an optional patch is that these updates contain UI core fixes which are client-only changes in python. This process is much quicker to prepare, test and execute and allows us to prepare a patch much faster than usual. The EVE Online client remains usable whether an optional patch is applied or not.
Following downtime you will see a pop up box once the client is launched informing you that a patch is available and if you want to install. If you click 'Yes' then the patch will be applied and then you can log into Tranquility. If you choose 'No' you will log in to Tranquility directly but none of the fixes will be applied. If you clicked 'No' in error you can still apply the patch by going to the ESC menu, General Settings and apply the patch from the 'Install' button there.

In the past this is how they do it, they won't let people run patch 1,2,3, etc if they put a new cumulative patch up, either you take the new one or go back to unpatched tyrannis whatever.
--Submit your bug reports via mental telepathy this will streamline CCP ignoring them.-- |

Yes, this is still the case and will continue to be so. These are really incremental updates rather than separate optional patches. The reason we're doing so many of them is because we want to get the fixes out as soon as they are ready and tested.

So let me get this straight, these updates/micropatches will be incorporated when the bigger Major patch is released and CCP is just giving us the option patch now to fix the issues ASAP? If so, will we have the option to uninstall once they are incorporated into the major patch/expansion?
Translated: We can have pie now and not latter, if we so choose!?!?

Yes, all the updates will be included when a patch is released, and the latest optional update at that time will become obsolete.

I do not have an "install" button in the General Settings tab when I hit esc.
How should I go about applying this optional patch?
Thank you!

Judging by how many problems have been reported and how few have been fixed over 4 optional patches so far, I think you have a LONG way to go. You have until November 20th to fix everything or rollback to 1.05, otherwise my account will be suspended and I will NOT re-activate it for at least 3 months from the date I determine that all of Tyrannis 1.1's problems have been resolved. You are doing a better job than Bioware did with Dragon Age: Origins 1.3 (which I will never play again), but I will ALWAYS feel that Tyrannis 1.1 should have NEVER been released and STILL should not be released today considering how many problems still exist.
Btw, before anyone asks, no, you cannot have my stuff.

At the bottom of the middle column under General Settings, there should be an "Optional Upgrade" section. Under that there should either be a button to install, or it should say "Your client is running an optional upgrade" with an uninstall button below. If neither of those are there, then something is wrong and I would very much appreciate a bug report with a screen shot and logserver output, with a comment asking that it gets forwarded to me.

I still cant get past the character screen except on RARE occasions. I try at least 20 times before giving up...
ALL I WANT TO DO IS LOGIN AND CHANGE A SKILL YET THE REASON CCP WONT HAVE OUT OF GAME SKILL CHANGING IS BECAUSE THEY WANT YOU TO LOGIN.
FIXED IT FOR YOU BTW. WHY EVEN BOTHER TO PLAY A GAME IF YOU CANT EVEN LOGIN. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO, TRY A MISSION, LOSE EVERYTHING (IM NOT EVEN MENTIONING NULLSEC CAUSE ITS BROKE AND LAG=DEATH SOCKET CLOSED=DEATH) BUT IN MISSIONS YOU AT LEAST *3% CHANCE% GET A GM TO REIMBURSE EVEN THOUGH LOGS SHOW NOTHING YOU MIGHT ENCOUNTER A GENEROUS GM HAHAHA YEA I KNOW RIGHT?
LET PEOPLE LOGIN TO CHANGE SKILLS OR LET US CHANGE SKILLS IS EVEGATE, WAY TO DISSERVICE YOUR CUSTOMERS. ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT CCP WANTS NOT WHAT THE CUSTOMER WANTS.

Ive got a bad feeling about this patch.
The agent window thing sounds suspect. My agent conversations open in the same stack as my market, character sheet, etc.
I have 1 stack with literally everything, and next to it opens the info window with chat windows/logs/local placed around them.
I have a feeling that agent conversations will no longer stay in the main stack in my UI, if this is the case im going to go mental!
Im also not sure that the stacking fix will address the fact that each new container has its own position and opens in the middle of the screen.
If you break agent conversation stacking AND dont fix new container window locations, albeit small issues, im going to get myself banned from these forums.

Well here's a totally cool idea: They could use ten or twenty of their own 600 employees (dozens of which play EVE themselves) to TEST THEIR OWN PRODUCT, instead of leaving it for their customers to test OVER A PERIOD OF WEEKS ON THE LIVE SERVER.
Just a thought.

Nope i dont think its that.
I have 1 client on my PC, but have 2 seperate Eve accounts. My main d/l patch #4 and apart from the odd double overview, is okay. My 2nd account didnt get asked for the patch (obviously imo as my 1 client has already d/l it) but still has numerous bugs which the patch fixed on my mains account.
