A fifth optional patch for Tyrannis 1.1 will be deployed during downtime on Thursday, October 21 which will fix several issues reported to us following the release of Tyrannis 1.1. While the patch is optional, we would encourage everyone to apply the update to ensure your gameplay is improved. A full list of updated patch notes can be found here.
The reason for deploying an optional patch is that these updates contain UI core fixes which are client-only changes in python. This process is much quicker to prepare, test and execute and allows us to prepare a patch much faster than usual. The EVE Online client remains usable whether an optional patch is applied or not.
Following downtime you will see a pop up box once the client is launched informing you that a patch is available and if you want to install. If you click 'Yes' then the patch will be applied and then you can log into Tranquility. If you choose 'No' you will log in to Tranquility directly but none of the fixes will be applied. If you clicked 'No' in error you can still apply the patch by going to the ESC menu, General Settings and apply the patch from the 'Install' button there.

In the past this is how they do it, they won't let people run patch 1,2,3, etc if they put a new cumulative patch up, either you take the new one or go back to unpatched tyrannis whatever.

Yes, this is still the case and will continue to be so. These are really incremental updates rather than separate optional patches. The reason we're doing so many of them is because we want to get the fixes out as soon as they are ready and tested.

So let me get this straight, these updates/micropatches will be incorporated when the bigger Major patch is released and CCP is just giving us the option patch now to fix the issues ASAP? If so, will we have the option to uninstall once they are incorporated into the major patch/expansion?

Yes, all the updates will be included when a patch is released, and the latest optional update at that time will become obsolete.

Judging by how many problems have been reported and how few have been fixed over 4 optional patches so far, I think you have a LONG way to go. You have until November 20th to fix everything or rollback to 1.05, otherwise my account will be suspended and I will NOT re-activate it for at least 3 months from the date I determine that all of Tyrannis 1.1's problems have been resolved. You are doing a better job than Bioware did with Dragon Age: Origins 1.3 (which I will never play again), but I will ALWAYS feel that Tyrannis 1.1 should have NEVER been released and STILL should not be released today considering how many problems still exist.
Btw, before anyone asks, no, you cannot have my stuff.

At the bottom of the middle column under General Settings, there should be an "Optional Upgrade" section. Under that there should either be a button to install, or it should say "Your client is running an optional upgrade" with an uninstall button below. If neither of those are there, then something is wrong and I would very much appreciate a bug report with a screen shot and logserver output, with a comment asking that it gets forwarded to me.

Ive got a bad feeling about this patch.
The agent window thing sounds suspect. My agent conversations open in the same stack as my market, character sheet, etc.
I have 1 stack with literally everything, and next to it opens the info window with chat windows/logs/local placed around them.
I have a feeling that agent conversations will no longer stay in the main stack in my UI, if this is the case im going to go mental!
Im also not sure that the stacking fix will address the fact that each new container has its own position and opens in the middle of the screen.
If you break agent conversation stacking AND dont fix new container window locations, albeit small issues, im going to get myself banned from these forums.

Well here's a totally cool idea: They could use ten or twenty of their own 600 employees (dozens of which play EVE themselves) to TEST THEIR OWN PRODUCT, instead of leaving it for their customers to test OVER A PERIOD OF WEEKS ON THE LIVE SERVER.
Just a thought.

Nope i dont think its that.
I have 1 client on my PC, but have 2 seperate Eve accounts. My main d/l patch #4 and apart from the odd double overview, is okay. My 2nd account didnt get asked for the patch (obviously imo as my 1 client has already d/l it) but still has numerous bugs which the patch fixed on my mains account.

Edited by: Jane Griffin on 21/10/2010 11:51:40 Each new cargo container still has its own unique position and does not adhere to the stack that i placed the previous container window i interacted with. - CONTAINERS SHOULD STACK WITH WRECKS LIKE THEY ALWAYS DID.
Private conversations windows still do not stack with windows like 'corp chat' instead stack perfectly well with each other as long as they are not part of any other stack. - THE FIRST AND SUBSEQUENT PRIVATE CONVERSATIONS SHOULD OPEN AS PART OF THE SAME STACK THAT THE LAST PRIVATE CONVERSATION WINDOW WAS CLOSED IN LIKE IT ALWAYS DID. - THERE ALWAYS WAS AN ISSUE WITH PRIVATE CONVOS STACKING IN PINNED STACKS, IF YOU COULD RETURN CONVO WINDOWS TO ORIGINAL BEHAVIOUR AND ALLOW THEM TO STACK WITH PINNED WINDOWS THAT WOULD BE AN IMPROVEMENT.
Luckily for you CCP agent conversation windows seem unchanged so i wont emorage.
Not sure what the point of this patch was.

Thats pretty much unacceptable. The UI is already a busy affair of windows. Removing options for tidying it up is completely the wrong way to go.
I suppose convos are working as intended too? Seems like an easy way to fix things, just say 'we meant to make things worse'... great, all this just twists my guts.

CCP isn't alone, NO PUBLISHER in the MMO industry employs anything remotely resembling proper Q/A processes in their development, as anyone who has ever worked in software/hardware development knows.
Clearly they do not do much, if any, regression testing. And they certainly do not test all scenarios with regard to changes introduced by patches.
Why employ a couple hundred people to do Q/A testing when you have 300,000 who will find the bugs for you and PAY you for the privilege?
It is wrong, and it's inefficient to develop in this manner. We are now on the 5th patch of what was a minor patch. Look at all the time and developer effort wasted on fixing bugs (that still aren't fixed) that with proper Q/A never would have been in the original release to start with. Instead of having trained Q/A professionals root out the defects in the software who can give concise information to developers to fix issues, we waste large amounts of developer time chasing bug reports from amateurs.
CCP, hire a proper Q/A department, or I'd imagine the downtime coming from trying to mesh Dust and Incarna with this mess will be measured in WEEKS, not days...

Due to an issue with EVE Mail formatting, we are disabling Tyrannis 1.1 optional patch #5 and restoring Tyrannis 1.1 optional patch #4. If you installed optional patch #5 you will get this error the next time you log in. To resolve this, start the client, go into the ESC menu, click on the "General Settings" tab, and then hit the "uninstall" button. Restarting the client will then allow you to restory Tyrannis 1.1 to optional patch #4.

I tried to install the optional patch by clicking esc and then click "install optional patch" (I have not installed patch #4 btw), I get a message "cannot apply patch".Is that because now the fifth patch is not available (I guess that's why it says cannot apply patch), but how can I apply patch #4?
Also, I wonder, are these optional patches always inclusive of privious optionl patches, so if I install patch 4 I don't need patches 1-3?

Our story so far:
In the beginning, there was a patch.
The patch beget a patch to fix the flaws with the patch.
Which beget a patch to repair the flaws that the second patch failed to patch
Which beget a patch to repair the flaws that the third patch failed to patch
Which beget a patch to repair the flaws that the fourth patch failed to patch
Which was withdrawn because the fifth patch introduced flaws that the first patch did not even have.
Confused yet?

Epic Fail?!?! There is no word or sentence in the English language that can possibly adequately describe the magnitude of this utter and complete fiasco.
I am slowly developing a theory to cover how CCP does any of its developing and code writing; it involves someone having an idea, said idea being described briefly on paper, and then that paper being thrown into a room full of monkeys. The monkeys then spend the next six weeks ****ting on the paper, trying to eat the corners, and generally fighting over it and masturbating on it. And after the six weeks are up, the idea is released onto Tranquillity as the next update.
Me thinks there is a flaw in there somewhereà..

I do not have an "install" button in the General Settings tab when I hit esc.
How should I go about applying this optional patch?
Thank you!
I'm not sure how to file a bug report nor how to take a log server report.
However, here is the screenshot:

So if Tyrannis v1.1 was the actual patch and v1.1.1 was the first optional patch, with the latest twist in the saga we're now up to v1.1.1.2.3.4.5.4 ?

Tinfoil aside I think it has certainly done enough to convince me Nathan was right, judging by how many people complain loudly but how few actually quit. Clearly much of the existing playerbase will keep paying no matter what. CCP have made it clear the economic bottom-line is the only voice they grant more than lip service. Sadly that supports continuing pushing half-baked new shiny onto the server.
My last account expires in a few days so farewell all. It was a blast. Hopefully when WOD is live eve will fall back into the hands of enthusiasts once more.

can I say we called it? not that it was difficult...
Yes, thank you. Let me just say it like it is, this was a substantial change to the edit control and in our eagerness to test whether or not it solved the existing issues (which it did), we failed to test some other functionality of the edit. And I'm in all honesty really upset that a) we didn't catch this and b) we don't have a fix out yet for the current issues (copy/paste and memory issues).

thats working as intended....CCP for some reason have changed it to this way.
Thats pretty much unacceptable. The UI is already a busy affair of windows. Removing options for tidying it up is completely the wrong way to go.
I just want to echo this sentiment.
If this new useless window-spewing funcitonality is indeed intended then can we please have the old UI backend back because it provides a far better UI.
If new windows are spawned every time something new is opened, then you can never default that position so it will always be wrong, unconditionally. This is bad UI design. It's bad UI designed built into the rules. That means you fundamental rules are wrong as wellà
Give us back our automatic new-window stacks. Now. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

So if the patch was tested, why are you disabling it?
Sounds to me like it was given the "well it has'nt deleted my boot.ini" test, then shoved out the front door.

to be fair they rolled it out on sisi like 2 months ago and no one bothers to bug report :P
also I haven't had to instal a single one of these patches. windows stick, corp mates are green.
it's wierd, the new UI must act wierd on just some hardware? software?
Many people have reported Sisi bug reports that were filed and ignored on these issues. Get your facts straight before jumping in and defending mummy and daddy. |

Suggestion: Remove the "new topic" button from everywhere apart from the list of topics section within a subforum.
That'd save those with chronic hand/eye coordination some face. |

Don't worry about it Bella. it must be very embarrassing for you to be the face of CCP on this.
Given the history of this (3 weeks and counting) I doubt anyone really thought that patch #5 would be any more successful than the previous four. It's got so I just expect the patch to fail now - which is funny, in a sad and pathetic kind of way
For the record: Will the next patch be #6 or do you want to try for #5 again?
