Edited by: Mastertz on 23/10/2010 20:27:13 CCP needs to fix ship collision. Running a ship into another shouldn't move your ship away from a gate or station, it should just go right through. I've lost too many ships to being knocked away from the gate or station I wanted to get to.
At the least CCP should make bumping a petitionable exploit.

Yeah, other MMOs don't have collision on the players. It's really just a griefing tactic so it makes the game less enjoyable for the majority of players.

I think Mastertz is right. This bumping needs to be fixed; there should be a graphic affect to show that the shield from each ship bumping has touched each other. Like sparks or something. After all there is not enough lag at the moment so why not have another affect to help.

What would you replace it with? How else would you want to have lost those ships (and no, "not at all" is not a satisfactory answer). Bumping serves a purpose, and removing it would require the mechanic to be replaced by something else.

Bumping is a good way to stop someone from warping away too soon.
As a noob with low skills I was in a fleet that had engaged a bs. It was aligned to warp away, the FC started yelling he's aligned he's aligned! Someone bump him! So in my little frig I fly towards him as fast as my little ship would take me.
He was knocked off course and as a result we got him, its a good tactic to use.
But I agree with the idea of having sparks and collision effects for when the ships touch.

Bumping used to be far worse. Size wasn't taken in account before to determine how much a ship gets bumped.
Oh yea, wrecks used to be an issue too.

this is the exact sort of griefing that is the problem. u shouldnt be able to stop someone warping without a warp disruptor. why should anyone fit a warp disruptor when they can just bump to stop them from warping.

To be fair, Eve physics are pretty fail when it comes to ship bumping. Battleships getting bumped out of the way by frigates 1/10th their size? That, sir, is what you call "fail physics."
If the OP had argued this point, I think his argument would hold more water. However the OP did no such thing. Instead the OP said "WAH I lost a ship WAH remove this feature WAH" makes everybody instead want to point and laugh rather than dive deeper and truly interrogate the problem.

Just going to add that it's KE = 1/2(m v^2). The velocity is more important than the mass as it's squared, with no collision damage, it's not unreasonable that a small fast ship can move a very heavy one. Or that a fast heavy ship like a mach, is a bumping god ;) ---

it's fine on a small scale, and the op is being ridiculous, but when a frigate bumps a mothership. I cry.
adding, the other issue is how they don't get bumps in a direction, they CHANGE DIRECTION. what the **** is with that?
if eve ships when bumped instead moved in a direction, but keep facing the same direction, I would be happy.

**** realism. Mass should be a factor for bumping - ie a small fast ship should just bounce off a larger, less mobile ship, perhaps even causing a significant amount of damage for each bump.
There are those that say "we want Eve to be as realistic as possible, and technically a large object in space could be moved by a small object because there is no friction" however if we are going to be super realistic, that small object would be flattened by hitting the large object. In a true realistic environment, your pod would explode with your ship.
And so instead of true realism, I say they make mass a variable for ship bumping.
