Did anyone else choose Caldari only because they were imagining missile fighting to be like the space battles in BSG?

Actually galactica has autocannons as well appart from missiles.
And to compare it with eve imo it would be more in line with minmatar typhoon.

Haha. Strangely enough I had never heard of or seen the newer BSG`s untill someone in eve told me about them. But I must say i did pick caldari to begin with as i thought they looked like ~real ships~ in the intro videos....
Im reasonablly happy with the choice i made :)

Actually Ultra he didnt say like battlestar galactic he said IN battlestar galactic meaning the show. When I think of missile battles I think of the raptors or the basestars not galactica itself as I am sure the OP was implying.

I made my choices of race long before I got into nuBSG. Having said that, I've always watched the show and thought Cylon = Caldari, and Galactica = Minmatar. The basestars spamming missiles certainly makes me think "time honored missile combat" and Galactica and Pegasus sure seem to be using good old fashioned projectiles.
As to the Mach... I named one "The Bucket" and another "The Beast", so yeah, I'm with you on the Mach being a bit like a battlestar. When I spin that ship in station, to me at least, it really does look like a battlestar from certain angles. Interestingly in my mind, is the fact the Mach is supposed to be 1000m in length, and Galatica was about 1400m in length. So the sizes are in the same general range.

Supposed to be...
Battleship sizes are completely wrong. The Mach is around 1800m making it bigger then a Carrier.
It is really big!

I had read that somewhere else and always wondered where that information came from. Not disputing it at all, I just went with the figure shown when you see the model in game.
If the Mach is more in the 1800m range, that puts her on par with Pegasus then no? I've always had a soft spot for the Pegasus and (noble sacrifice aside) wished she could have stuck around a bit longer. That was a beautiful model in the show and she kicked an appropriate amount of ass. Worthy of being compared to a Mach I think lol.

Indded a beutiful ship, I personally have always been fond of the Basestars(New Ones) myself.
It was an awsome sacrafice I now need to rewatch the best episodes in the series.

^ I just did a marathon re-watch of the entire show run in the last week or so. Admittedly, I skipped a few episodes here and there. From your last comment, are you a fan of Scar? I have to admit, that was on the skip list for me.
For me, it's hard to get used to seasons 1 and 2 where Saul has both eyes. I remember the long delays between seasons (and half seasons, damn writer's strike!) and got so used to seeing Saul with only one eye, that when I re-watch seasons 1 and 2... It just seems wrong for him to have both eyes.

I was more into it in the early episodes but yea 2 eyed Saul little weird...
As for Scar I loved him, not a great episode for other reasons though. What I loved was in the origional series raiders popped like flys hitting a bug lamp and in the new one it was similiar when they got there fighters set up. But it showed that Raiders were actually something to worry about rather then as fodder for cool action shots of Starbuck WTFPWN'ing robots.
My all time Fav season one was 33 minutes(did I get that right it's been a while) such psychological drama!

I'm pretty sure the episode was simply called "33." That was the first episode after the mini-series. Season 1 was overall the tightest of the seasons (well, ok, my opinion) as the plot hadn't developed all the tangential things that needed wrapping up later on in the show. Seeing Boomer shoot Adama... Was a holy sh*$! moment for me.
I felt season 2 was excellent for the first half-ish (up to Pegasus arriving and the attack on the resurrection hub) but then had some down episodes (Scar, The Black Market) but then bounced back with "The Captain's Hand" where Lee takes command of Pegasus. We then finish out season 2 with the election of Gaius "Frakking" Baltar and the settlement on New Caprica/return of the Cylons.
(As an aside... is it frakking or fraking? I never know which is correct amongst fellow BSG nerds - yes I of course am one myself...)
Season 3 was up and down for me. I found myself skipping a bunch of episodes in season 3's re-watch. Having said that, Galactica jumping into the atmosphere and then the battle where Lee sacrifices Pegasus - that was some impressive TV.
I enjoyed season 4 nearly as much as season 1. And to aid in my enjoyment, I simply refuse to pay attention to the last 30 minutes or so of the final episode. (I don't buy the "Hey, screw tech! It's only kept us alive, who needs it?" bit at the end. Starbuck vanishing didn't make me nearly as mad as giving up technology to start anew, and yeah, I get they were trying to break the cycle and all that...)
Overall, nuBSG is my second favorite TV show behind another show that establishes my nerd cred - Deep Space Nine.
And lastly, I feel as if I've just about totally derailed this thread from the op's initial premise. For that I apologize, but my nerd genes were activated seeing "BSG" on the forums.

Bull**** it was horrible IMO I saw that and thought oh god what have they done. But oh well there show I kinda thought they were struggling to find an ending anyway. weird thing my pop called it in season 2 that that would happen!

Edited by: Alexis Sapphire on 29/10/2010 02:45:22 Lol, my rant about the last 30 minutes of BSG could take me about 4 posts to write all out. Very generally, I didn't mind the religious/mystical/whatever-you-want-to-call-it aspects like Kara just going "poof!" or Hera as mitochondrial eve. Ron Moore (who I pretty much love due to his association with DS9) can do what he likes. But, I did have an issue with the luddite-ish crap against technology. I just didn't see it as plausible that the folks on board those ships all just gave up their science and medicine so they could go native. Hell, how many of them would have a clue about living off the land? For me, that just went too far. Lee says "let's go native" and they all shrug their shoulders and say np? I don't buy it. And yeah, I likely make no sense at this point if I'm willing to concede things like Kara vanishing - then why do I get so upset over the giving up tech? I just do. I thought it was weak and silly and made no sense... But that's just me.
As for DS9... My fave. I love Trek in general, but DS9 takes it to a different level. "Niners aren't linear, we're everywhere." What we Niners say to folks who just don't get the show. Hell, I named another of my ships "The Sisko" much like I named my Mach after BSG. I'm a nerd like that. (Bonus points if you can guess the ship. It makes sense in a way if you think creatively.) "In the Pale Moonlight" is an excellent episode - often rated by fans as the darkest episode of all Trek. Garak is perfectly devious, and when Sisko confronts him at the end... Explosive.
"Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" from season 7 is another dark episode that is well done I think. Those types of episodes are what make DS9 so great. Also, I mean, honestly... Was the Dominion War not pretty awesome? Some great battles on screen. Hell, when they take back the station in season 6, I got chills.
Edited to add:
I used to be a TNG fanboy in the extreme. Now, not so much. The show looks extremely dated in a way that DS9 and Voyager have yet to suffer from. Yes, I know it started in 87 and all that, but the episodes in seasons 1 and 2 look just terrible nowadays (I think so at least).
I love Voyager even though on many levels, it is nowhere near the show DS9 is. I just find Voyager to be... entertaining lol. Janeway was all kinds of bipolar, but that made her fun. The Doctor was entertaining, though I could do without Neelix I think. Seven was a great change over Kes (and yeah, I know she brought "eye-candy" for the nerds - hell, I call her "Big Boobs of Nine" - but she was a hell of a lot more than a nice looking woman in tight clothes.)
I remember buying DS9 and Voyager both on DVD as the seasons were released. In hindsight, I kinda wish I had NOT done this, as those two shows ended up costing me over $1400 (roughly $100/season on release day). But like BSG, they're something I come back to again and again when whatever is on TV sucks, which for me at least, is pretty much everything.

I loved the new Battlestar Galactica. Most people I know claimed it was nothing but a GINO, but I looked beyond that. It combined intense action scenes with damn good plot, as well as tossing in a lot of psychological thriller into the fray.

Love that episode even got a novel about Section 31. I like the Romulan Pro consil shame she gets screwed over.
Anyway Garak is my Fav Character I always liked the spies and intrigue episodes as much as the war. I wasn't as good of a show till it found its wings but it really took off. Which is your all time fav episode?

All time favorite episode is actually from season 1 strangely enough. It's called "Duet" and it is simply amazing. Seeing Marritza pretend to be Gul Darhe'el and thunder such insane things as "While you were out annoying Cardassians, I was out slaughtering Bajorans!" gave me chills. Helps that Harris Yulin (who played Marritza) is a fantastic "bad guy" actor.
I will admit that seasons 1 and 2 of DS9 were shaky, and the show was getting a feel for itself. It of course took off in season 3 with the reveal that the founders where changelings and of course, the Defiant. Still, some good episodes were to be found in seasons 1 and 2.
Having said all that... I just love DS9. The weakest episodes of DS9 (and there are some stinkers lol) still make me smile more than watching most episodes of TNG (though there are some great TNG eps no doubt).
As for Garak, yeah, he's pro. I think Garak would fit right into EVE. Need an alliance taken down? Garak's your man. In addition to Garak, I really loved Weyoun. Shame we didn't have MORE Weyoun. Heh, come to think, Weyoun would fit right into EVE too. I could see him running scams out of Jita, with no one realizing they'd been had...

Remember the episode with the youg Cardassian boy and his adoptive parents, I found that one amazing. There is also the one where Sisko builds a wooden starship and takes it to Cardassia.

"Cardassians" is the name of the episode with the adopted boy Rugal. Pretty solid episode, and it showcased Garak and his relationship with Bashir, so points for that. As for the one where Sisko builds his solar sail... I wasn't a big fan of that one (in the context of my love of episodes, it still follows my "it's DS9 so therefore great" philosophy). Having said that, I believe it is the first episode where Sisko is growing his awesome goatee/stache, so he gets points for that.

Sorry, I missed this, and I have to say that's not a bad guess, I see where you're coming from. But alas no, it is not the prophecy. Hint: The key to this is looking beyond Sisko the character to the actor who played Sisko...

Since then, my ships have always had strange (but making sense to me) names that I'm sure make people go "WTF?" if they right click on me. Some are Trek references - I named a Rook "Best Guess Mr. Sulu" from a line in Khan, while others are purely insane.

Because of the ECM cycles clever.
I tend to name ships pretty random.
Raven=Nevermore Drake=Meleviolent Cyclone=Enforcer Hurricane=Oppressor Firetail=Chaos Rupture=Ruppy Tempest=Rusty Angle Dominix=Essex

...i bought it on dvd
Nobody mentioned one more ship that looks like from BSG, Dramiel. Imo it looks very similar like a cyclon raider, infact corpmate of mine named it like that .
btw, you know that cylon hybrid that pilots the basestar/is the basestar? Imo it is very closely depicted as i imagine capsuleers would look in their pods. I love that scene when she is jumping, i think its from that episode when they find virus that kills cylons(if anyone remembers it :D ).
about DS9 discussion...i kinda like last few seasons ("sacrafice of angels" episode was great, lot of space pew pew :D )
But imo BSG is far better than star trek, dont get me wrong, i like voyager and ds9 very much, but i like more the storyline and setting of BSG.
