A common EVE meme seems to be the concept of carebear tears. I have killed BPO carrying shuttles, in local they say "LOL should've scanned the gate" and just before I pod them back to oblivion they call out "see you later mate".
I proclaim some of the "carebear tears" stories I hear daily are highly fictionalized.
What do you think? Fact or fiction?

They may type that but you didn't see the tears in their eyes while they wrote those messages.

That is because you have met the mature players who know that getting killed is part of the game, and stupidity normally helps that along.
The ones with tears are typically not of the above. _____ When going to a party with wine, women, and song. Always ascertain the vintage of the first two.

Carebear rage is much more common, and just as delicious. Nothing better than someone going "RAAAAAAAAAAAAH" in local after you pop their Imicus with nothing but a Gallente carrier-skillbook in the cargo hold.

Yes. People really do cry.
I experienced some guys from a super elite german pvp alliance that nearly cryed on TS because someone took everything out of their hangars.

I once lost my Kestrel in HED once, before CVA told me to STAY OUT OF HED. Apperently it was common knowledge, but not to a casual player.
Anyways, I managed to save my pod, and in local, they laughed at me cause I was carrying skillbooks, as if they expected me to be upset at loosing some Gunnery skill books. Anyways, stupid fail was stupid, so I made fun of myself along with them. What can ya do...
But yeah, people cry in Eve all the time. Imagine having ONE thing in life that you do ALL day long and care about with all your heart, and having it all destroyed by someone just having fun. I can see how that would be upsetting. But then again, it's their fault for taking the game too seriously. The moral of the story, and I know I'm dating myself with this saying, but GET A LIFE :P

Edited by: Professor Tarantula on 05/11/2010 16:14:48 Fiction. Just like how when people are ganked in hisec everyone pretends they thought they were safe there.
If rage equals tears, then pirates cry more than anyone. Or is pirate anger 'cool'? They're certainly some of the most angry people you'll meet in game.

Depends on the person. Depends on a scale of loss.
I lolled when my Mach BPC badger got pewed, I lolled cos I didnt turn on hardeners on purpose thinking 'hey the gate is clear why would i bother moving my mouse 200 pixels', and cos BPC didnt drop :-)

Edited by: Hecatonis on 05/11/2010 16:32:17 cry? well maybe some. there are a lot of players, and too many of them prob need to take a step back from this game anyways
but i do find that fail gankers and pvper cry as much if not more then us carebears. i think its because we make more money then them and can recoop the loss without having to use 3 different accounts ;)
edit: make it readable, man i am too sleepy to be posting today

You obviously haven't done very much 'griefing' in eve or you wouldn't even ask this question.
Of course they do. All the time. It's often hilarious.

I will never understand why people move things in shuttles. Covops frigates or even better, T3 with covops and interdiction nullifier subsystem are the best ships to move high value low volume items. People using shuttles are asking to lose their stuff.

I think one thing many don't realize is that losing crap isn't a big deal to alot of players. Pirates are all "Oh we got him sooo good lol" and "ZOMG ur dumb" while the victim is quite used to being blown up, has isk to spare, and just goes to buy another shuttle. Their silence is of course taken to mean they're crying, though.

Edited by: Lord Steffwyn on 05/11/2010 17:21:22 Well I can't say I was very happy when my 20 mill HAC got blown up while I was ratting; but that disproved my theory that I could warp out if someone showed up. We negoiated a fee for not podding (which he stuck to) and he made a few helful suggestion for practicing fighting and getting more isk. I was less happy when I was groomed and lured to losec and podded; and I didn't bother talking to that player afterwards as I don't believe that is moral gameplay (feel free to shoot my down on that opinion, as I can understand that the galaxy is a "better" place for allowing players to behave in the manner). What alot of PvP players miss is that if you hammer a player (in one manner or another) then they simply stop playing Eve and everyone looses. My friend stopped playing after being sucided gank in hi-sec while semi-afk mining. Not podding someone (or at least giving them the ransom option) is much preferable option; let alone taking the isk and then podding them. Having played many MMO that have slowly declined in number, I would always appeal to players to try and make it "fun" for other players; difficult I know when your objective is to steal their money and blow their ships up. For example, let me kill the rat before you start shooting, allow me to at least get a couple of shots off before alpha striking me (I mean you know you are going to kick my butt in less than ten seconds). And for new players few million isk to a new player and a bit of help can go a long way, even if you have just blown up their frigate.

If u cry when u get blown up, then eve is not the game for u!
I can understand however getting angry when u lost ur ship due to lag or fubarred server and the logs show nothing. ________________________________________________

I'm not happy when my ship is vaporized around me. And my initial reaction is fury (so far no tears). But usually withing a half-minute two things occur. First, I figure out what incredibly stupid thing I did that lost me my ship (so far only one loss was not due to stupidity on my part). Second, I try to contact my destructor, strike up a conversation (most are very nice about it, as they salvage my wreck) and learn. Do I like all the lawlessness in EVE? Nope. But that's part of the game. As such, I have to either adapt or die. I prefer to adapt. |

Sigh. I have better things to do than pamper your ruffled pride. So you were a member of a gankteam of eight against one. What do you want me to say about it? Shout it all over local?
I have no contempt for kills by superior forces. That's how it should be done.
I do have contempt for ore thieves. ...And jerks trying to use game exploits to get cheap kills on mining barges in safe space. You build your self image on that? That makes you feel good about yourself?
What exactly? The glee of hurting other players? You sitting there in your misery, giggling: " hehe killed him/her. Oh I sooo pwn!!" ? really?" Been a while since I got hate mail Yeah I am a pirate. What are you gonna do about it? Killboard link is not allowed to be used in a signature.Applebabe
