Whenever I kill a carebear, I cry a little. I feel so bad for them - why should my psychopathic tendencies be allowed to ruin their game experience? It's terrible, and I feel sad that CCP allows me to do such terrible things to innocent people.
But, I just can't help myself. I have an addiction. ---------------------------------------------- I don't have an alt, but there's a main that would be upset if he heard me say that... |

Who was it back in the day that was using corp dec mechanics to rampage over Empire deccing just about everyone multiple times? They created an Alliance and had a crapload of wardecs going on at any given time. Maybe 2 years ago or so.
Anyway, all the Empire bear tears were a little loud but they were NOTHING compared to the massive shriek of soulfelt misery of (self proclaimed) Empire griefers when the dec system changed to remedy (ruin?) all that. Those tears are the best tears.

Originally by: Tom Gerard A common EVE meme seems to be the concept of carebear tears. I have killed BPO carrying shuttles, in local they say "LOL should've scanned the gate" and just before I pod them back to oblivion they call out "see you later mate".
I proclaim some of the "carebear tears" stories I hear daily are highly fictionalized.
What do you think? Fact or fiction?
They may not cry but they take the game seriously enough to send hatemail cursing your very existence and questioning your parenthood. While such mail is funny to receive, especially after responding calmly offering tips on how to avoid dying next time only to be met with torrents of "abuse", I think some people do need to take a step back from their pixels at times.

I think we'd both agree that's pretty rare.
Most times it births a thread, with the OP proudly displaying the chatlog or EVEmail. If it's common you wouldn't see such celebration.

I recieved one where he were gonna dismantle our SOV using Supercaps on his awsome main... Still waiting. Another sent 3 mails telling me how much he was gonna block me?! I kind of feel sorry for them really.
I once sent a mail titled I hate you to a Myrmidon pilot that popped my Arby. All it said was because that fight was too fun GF. Bait and Switch no tears for you. When I went out again he was still on the gate, I was in a Hurricane, he aggressed first, no tears from him, a good fight, a Good Day.
Tears exist trust me, but there rare and sometimes it is better without them.

Rarer than it used to be, but still happens. Mainly from people afk in lowsec that I feel the need to 'educate' on why that's a bad idea. Most of the time they'll say 'my bad' and accept the loss but theres the minority that feels every fight should be fair and they shouldn't have to answer for their mistakes.
That said I've just come back off a looooong break and am rather poor atm, can't wait till I can afford to go soloroaming (read: getting ****y dying to small gangs) again to see if it's changed all that much.

The 'my friend is an IT/NC director and I'm going to destroy you' ones are hilarious. If only you could track how little you care on your character sheet :(

To be honest noone really cries.
Its just a game, and most players emotional attachment stop at the podding. If you pod someone they might care about the "recovery" and hate you for a while, but tbh they normally recognise its just par for the game o7

Not quite as rare as you seem to think. Not all tears are threadworthy, and not everyone posts on the forums.
Before CCP removed folders from the address book I used to keep a folder of people who'd generated genuine tears (I'd rotate through it whenever I got bored and was out of new targets). I think I'd accumulated 19 people in a years worth of playing as a "griefer", so average of 1.5 per month. - - - Dian'h Might - C&Ps resident "internet kleptomaniac" |

It happens all the time, that's why it's not thread worthy. In my experience, carebears take it very seriously and very personally when they get popped.

I suspect there are some tears, some laughs, and some projections of some basement dwellers sexual fantasies. An Ad Baculum argument is when a debater threatens to hit his opponent with Scott Bacula. |

Tears are overrated and commonly only exist in the killer's mind.
That said, the ones that cry cry enough to fill that void. --

Death threats are the most amusing, I've had quite a few of those, I had some guy a couple of years ago tell me how he had found my IP and was going to come to my house and cut my throat while I slept, I just laughed at him |

Carebear "tears" are mostly fictional and only common in the minds of deluded players. I've made jokes and comments in local after losing my ship and/or failing to gank someone. Sure I was mad at myself for getting killed / missing out on a kill but not "crying" by any sense of the imagination. However, that doesn't stop my opponents from assuming that my jokes/comments were in fact "crying".
That being said, I'm assuming there are some people who do actually cry when bad things happen in games. Those people are the ones that need to take a step back and figure out why so serious.

in a past life as a carebear (I have 1 account, 1 main) I only got upset once at another players actions. in my first week I got podded after going into 0.0 without really knowing what that meant.
I never shed tears though but did rage in local until the person who killed me took pity and pointed out the error of my ways.
I know people who get upset losing ships to questionable mechanics (why are suicidal gankers paid any insurance?) and node crashes but that's about it.

Tears...
A few of you oldies might remember this. Please correct details if I am wrong as I heard about this second hand.
I remember an infamous pirate by the name of ginger magician from a few years ago . He was pretty good at being the pirate and even popped me once upon a time.
What I remember most about him was when he was banned. It seems he wanted a mothership, found someone willing to sell him one, paid the billions for it, and was sitting next to it in his pod ready to board the ship.
However, the mothership pilot had other ideas, podded ginger magician and left with the mothership and the billions that were just paid.
Ginger then proceeded to threaten RL violence of some sort and got the ban hammer.
I still lol at that.

Tears... not so much. You may get melodramatic whines in local about how you have destroyed their life, but usually carebears respond with rage and delusions of grandeur - either IRL or ingame.
I've seen plenty of rage in local, a couple evemails sent to me and corpmates. Hilarious, always.
