WOW is the still the best game in its class. I played a priest and there was a fair amount of skill needed in healing during intense instance raids. The priest class in Age Of Conan is so borked.

Healing in WoW is like playing Whack-a-mole.
I do agree it probably appeals to the widest amount of people, kind of like MacDonalds, but that doesn't make it the best.

Not sure really. I want to say Darkfall Online but the game was such a letdown for a long-term follower like me. World Of Warcraft was the game that I spent most of my time on, so I guess that one takes the cake.

World of Warcraft is the best MMO I've ever played. But I also burned out on it (scheduled raids were starting to feel like a 2nd job) so I haven't played in 2 years. At least EVE is a game you can leave and come back pretty much where you left off.

However, I remember the greatest problem with it was the fact that lag was pretty bad, if I do remember correctly. A lot of people really liked that game... it still stumps me as to why someone doesn't make a new one that's similar to it...
Planetside 2 is in the works
You got a link to info on it? I'm curious now!
Here, let me google that for you. ----------

Best MMO is the only one I'm still playing, no contest here. But since we can't pick EVE... hmm... let me think... this is really hard, everything else is so mediocre in comparison... ...text-based MMOs and MUDs don't count, do they ? ...well... it's almost a three-way tie between Guild Wars (best overall gameplay-wise but not really all that much of a MMO with its uber-heavy instancing, at least the PvP part is sorta' fun), Project Entropia (which is a combo between a micropayments oriented hell and a masterfully crafted quasi-Ponzi scheme) and Anarchy Online (what I'd call a proper MMO, but not really that impressive). Hmm... ...I'll go with Guild Wars. _

I tried Anarchy Online and stayed with it for 5+ years. I tried EQ2 and GW but didn't like the setting so much and GW didn't feel like a mmo.
So when I left Anarchy I came here. Its still creaking along actually, just with very, very few players.
As for the future...nothing seems to be jumping out at me. SW:TOR I will try out but again I am worried it will be mostly instanced like GW. I want to meet random folk out in the game world. I want to compete with, impress and in turn be impressed. NPCs can't achieve that by their very nature.
Looks like Eve for a while yet then...

Tabula Rasa was fun, but went away too soon.
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

Troed WoW, I think it was last year, I must say the zones design are very well done and the world is beautifull, however the function like Dunjeon Finder a just dreadfull and bring the worst to MMOS. I reget to have not try it at launch, it seems it was more challenging than it is now
used to play a lot of Ultima series, mostly ultima 7 blackgate, serpent isle, forge of virtue, back in early 90 but never tried the online version.

Probably Age of Conan.
It is not a very good game. It has far too many instances, and the combat, while innovative, gets boring fast 9 (I hate games where you input button chain commands like most fighting games).
It was the better of my MMO experience.
Warhammer Online would probably be second. Frustratingly slow and boring leveling though, and incredibly buggy.
Lotro is decent, but 99.99% carebear land. Way too family friendly for my taste.
I played WoW for far too long a time, but I hate that game so much and the direction it has taken (I quit sometime between BC and WotLK).
I also played some free to play homebrew mmo called Rubies of Eventide. It was the first MMO i ever played. It was pretty crappy compared to today's main titles, but at that time, I had a blast playing it. Sarcasm - Because i'm too far away to strangle you. |

If I haven't posted in this thread already, pre-cu SWG.
Best community in an MMO ever. This was due in part to how the game was set up - waits at starports, bufflines. BUFFLINES! The only game where I have ever witnessed players standing in lines.
Gameplay was complex, with a dynamic profession system. Crafting was complex, and probably the best I've yet to see in an MMO. It took a significant commitment - but there were lots of opportunities.

LOL! I tried that game.... keyword tried...
One game I'm attempting now is Entropia Universe. But the biggest issue I have is lack of player community. All other MMOs I've played has 2x the community that game has. Plus to seriously "play" the game it takes more per month in deposits than it does for other conventional MMOs. I did a $20 deposit 2 weeks ago and I exhausted it last night already.

Aye... resources needed for a schematic such as Iron and Reactive Gas would spawn with different sub names with their own individual stats. The harvestable resources were weighted! Man I'll never forget the excitement of a mineral sub type spawning with 90+ in the areas needed on a particular schematic. The mad rush to drop as many harvesters on the best spot before anyone else and before the reosurce expired!
Plus the ability to create your own unique character profession. Dancer/Rifleman with bits of something else? No problemo. Droid Enginer/Carbineer? Kewl!
*sigh*
You could create some truely extraordinary items in pre cu SWG.

It was a nice and plain sandbox mmo and i still recognice many similarities to Eve.
I also play WoW at the moment. It's nice but it actually does not feal like an mmo. There are many people on the server running around and doing stuff, but it seams almost imposible to interact with any of them even though i am on an RP server.
