i generally have an idea what i want to do with the character. and i go from there.
like the purpose of this character was that she was supposed to be some militaristic *****.
another character i just want to make pretty (all she had to do was look pretty and move stuff around). and i made her pretty. another character i wanted to it to be a scientist. so i made a scientist.
and with the new character creation. i'm going to try to make the new characters look like the ones i have now.

An avatar is a resemplance only to the extent that it serves the purpose of what you made it for. If you need a ugly looking charecer then go for it. There is a saying. Who you are in life is resembled in almost everything you do. Kinda like the Matrix... A temporary construct. You only use your Eve charecter to get around and learn what you need to learn so you can suceed in what it is you set out to do.

A slightly flattering version of myself which represents the kind of person I am, both in game and out.
Edit: For the record, my current avatar doesn't really do that.

An Avatar that resembles yourself in RL An Avatar that resembles an ideal vision of yourself in RL An Avatar that embodies the characteristics of your in game persona An Avatar that is the embodiment of an ideal lust object, that you would drag to bed if it existed in RL

Mostly 4 with a bit of 5, however I made this character so long ago - I kind of hate the look now
Although I would say this discussion has much more merit in terms of the new character creation and walking in stations then avatars in their current state in Eve. Other games aside of course. __________________________

What motivates me when creating an avatar? Speed... get it out the way as quickly as possible.
Failing that... make it look like a chinese opium addict

4 with a bit of 5 sometimes. For me, creating characters is something like writing a poem or a tune or something - it will have its own organic development, some inspiration from what's possible in the character creator, plus ideas that have been floating around in my head, or something irl that's inspired. The main thing is to create a character that feels (at least to me) like they might be a real person. And sometimes I just like making hawt chicks. I do spend quite a lot of time in character creators, especially in games like CoX and CO. I've already played around a good bit on SISI, trying to see if I can recreate the characters I already have, or improve them, so I will definitely be spending some time in the character creator.
Btw, I haven't checked SISI recently, but are there any "sinister underlighting/overlighting" options like in the original character creator? The lighting options that exist are great, but we need some extreme ones with light from above or light from below. *****

I tried the new character Creator on SISI and I didnĘt get the feeling it was anything near the quality of creating life likeness of myself
I found the EQ2 creator could nearly do it but hands down to the aion creator was the best Using the Crytek engine TM@ you could make anyone people started making Michael JacksonĘs and obama and rocky for fun because it was that detailed Eve's creator looks above average vs wow but substandard to most other online games
Over all I am still very un interested in EVE at this point PI ruined it for me seeing the changes while they are in the right direction it still means forcing me to take part in a feature or mini game I have NO interest in if I could buy robotics on the market for 2x pre pi cost I would be okie with it but 80k per vs pre pi of 8k per
WTF indeed you lost subs CCP

Edited by: Terazul on 31/12/2010 06:10:06 I actually have been really lazy and just re-made characters that I've made in the past, although with twists to make them better fit the setting. This is primarily because I like their appearance and the (in-character) personality that goes with it.
For example, my current character has three incarnations from different games...

But I'm curious - when you design your avatar, what is your motivation for making it look the way it does?
The way I see it, most people will fall into one of these categories;
- An Avatar that resembles yourself in RL
- An Avatar that resembles an ideal vision of yourself in RL
- An Avatar that resembles a celebrity
- An Avatar that embodies the characteristics of your in game persona
- An Avatar that is the embodiment of an ideal lust object, that you would drag to bed if it existed in RL

- A combination of some of the above
So.. which is yours? And have I missed any?
None of the above. So far I'm disappointed. I was looking for more fantasy but looks like we'll get less.
