Is there a list of Netbooks that Eve will run on? Was thinking of getting on during the Black Friday sales this weekend and wouldn't want to buy something to weak.

Edited by: Aiwha on 24/11/2010 19:33:42 I'm not sure if a netbook can support a video card capable of running EVE. I may be wrong, but you might want to look into a proper laptop for a mobile EVE center.

I have a 17 inch laptop that plays ever very nicely, but I was looking for something smaller that wold be easier to take on trips yet also inexpensive.

Edited by: Gravemind GER on 24/11/2010 19:44:13 with incursion a netbook will become more incompatible with eve... even with Nvidia ION chipset it will be a pain to play it on low settings for hauling and mining... in the time between trinity and quantum rise i had a Acer Aspire ONE A150L, its now incompatible with latest eve gamegraphics and is rendering me on lowest settings an fps of 2 or 5...

On an Asus Eee 1215N I get around 5 fps in station. It is pretty useless for actually playing, but you can change skills and maybe trade a bit.

I've got a Samsung N220, and EVE will run on that. It's not particularly fast, and I wouldn't want to PvP with it, but ... well, it _does_ work. Incursions... don't know. I suppose I could try and fire up the Sisi installer, but I haven't yet.

There is a new line of netbooks sporting dualcore Atom CPUs. Snag one of those with a nVidia Ion GPU and you'll be good to go.
Avoid Intel HD graphics like the plague.

With the proper apps and a strong enough 4G / wifi connection you can play eve on your smartphone.
I run level 3 missions on my G2 at work all the time. :D

Thank you all for the information, it is much appreciated. And is there really a way to run Eve on a smart phone? If so, I'd love some details as it would definitely influence which one I purchase next. Unfortunately, I doubt it would work on my company iPhone 3G or my Palm Pre.

Sure thing. This is what I use.
Android based handset using the PhoneMyPC application (costs like $9.99), strong enough 4G / Wife connection and your good to go.
Basicly the PhoneMyPC app will dial into your home PC where your EVE install is and launch the application, it then streams the video feed over the network to your smartphone.

maybe not a 3g or pre... but an i4 or pre 2 should work alright... they both sport 1gig processors

If I remember right the official lowest supported resolution for eve is 1024x768, most of the netbooks I've seen run at 1024x600 and yes the intel 9** chipset most of them run sucks like a blackhole for gaming, tis fine for browsing and general use. --------------------------------------------- Proudly posting with my Alt since 2009 |

I've played Eve many days without any issues on an ASUS 1201N. My expectations are reasonable though. No, I can't quickly pan the camera everywhere in the middle of a fire-fight with all the effects turned on. Also, It is better if you can hook it up to an external monitor as small netbook screens can strain eyes. A USB mouse and keyboard help as well.
The ASUS EB1501 nettop works fine too. I'm using that right now. I think it helps with the power bill. |

Got EvE running on a Samsung N110 which is an older netbook - it's still good enough for markets, industry, travelling around, mining runs, or at a stretch some hi-sec ratting or easy complexes.

Not sure about the Pre, but for iPhone (or Android) just go to app store and grab any VNC app. Set up a VNC server on your main computer, then connect to it through the phone and you can play any game on your computer through your phone. Its not the greatest experiance but you can chat, change skills buy/sell on market. If you're brave you can even fly around.

While technically not a "notebook" I play fairly well on anAcer Revo running Win XP rather than the supplied Linux. It's not gunna make you say "wow" but it runs at a steady 25fps with pretty much everything low / off.
Not great but does the job on the move

I run Eve on an Eee PC 1005H with the dual core Atom and upgraded memory with XP and it works well enough. I know a fellow that has one of those Aleinware m11x laptops and it runs just fine off of that. A good HD and upgrade memory seem the key.

I've tried it with my nettop, incursions will be more heavier for your little machine and it sucks on your fps like a sansha turd.

Pretty sure that will run it, although your framerate would still suck for anything other than station spinning/markets.

I use a acer Ferrari one netbook, and it works quite well. I get around 15-35FPS, depending on how far I zoom out. Got it hooked up with a 32" TV.

You could run it on your home PC and use Logmein on the netbook.
Worked for me on low spec PCs.

If you don't install the sea of crapware that comes with the new computers, you can have decent performance even with netbooks.
I am using an Asus 1201N Netbook (iirc) that is 12.1" video, ION video card, 250GB HD, 3G RAM, Win 7.
EvE GFX Settings = MEDIUM, I am checking the CTRL+F FPS: in station it's 27.9
Right outside Caldari station says 28.2
If you start scrolling it drops to 17 (seems it loads video from shared mainboard slower memory).
In the middle of a roid field (ie lots of stuff) with about 70 ships actively doing stuff it dropped to 6.9
It gets slower if I open two clients at the same time.
With this I have done:
- L4 missions (easily) - Limited PvP (requires low numbers) - Hauling (easily) - Mining (easily) - PI (easily)
It worked even on a shaky hotel WI FI connection. It works quite good on a regular HSDPA USB modem DSL but not at PvP grade (latency is too high, but it's not the computer)

Look for netbooks with Nvidia ION. E.g. Lenovo S12: EVE runs pretty good on mine :). For short trips through space it's ok. Larger fleets can be a problem.

Acer Aspire Timeline 3810T-353G25N
Runs the game on max without many hiccup. Has 2 video cards built in. The Ati 4350 for gaming and the Intel GMA4500 for desktop use.
