Hahaha, so I have friends who have been playing eve for 10 years, and when i asked "so what should I do now?" they were like you can "run missions" And that's what I've been doing. It was in conjunction with it taking forever to do anything. I was like "I want to pvp" "well learn these skills first and get a tristan and we can go around and pvp (lol)" and i was like "well while im waiting what can I do?" "just run missions if you want - otherwise nothing i guess..."
Please. No one is attacking your game. I know I don't know much about it - but I'm trying :) and I am simply responding to what I learn from playing and from players. YOU GUYS (And girls) who message me. :S
I'm a female, coming into eve. I'm telling you why I may or may not want to play the game - right off the bat. And what I think would help keep someone like me playing - or anyone playing.
Male or female.. all newcomers get the **** treatment so don't sweat it. I think sometimes we get scared of CCP changing the game to be more about instant gratification if plenty newcomers complain. I love that this game is so harsh. Since the true value of any accomplishment is the risk you took to get it. No concept of loss means little sense of achievement. That is truly what separates this game from most others.. High risk!! the bad side is does attract a certain kind of person.

Edited by: Norian Lonark on 29/11/2010 23:31:10 For me Eve isnt about instant gratification and being able to fly a ship straight away and I hope it never becomes like that if it did I would certainly stop playing there are plenty of games that give instant hits and no risk Eve doesnt need to be one of them.
Personally I think there are more little things you can do with a tiny amount of time than with WOW, one of my main reasons for leaving wow was I felt I had to play all the time with constant raiding lasting hours and hours, whereas EVE I have never felt like that, missions market trading, pvp, manufacturing, research, inventing, hauling can all be done with small play time imo.
Missioning is really not all you can do if all I did was mission I wouldnt still be playing, so why not try some other things :)
I do understand the whole point about avatars and do agree that when WIS a lot more women may try the game lot more men too :), I am also looking forward to being able to walk about and not be in my pod all the time :)

Hi,
grate you have decided to try out eve. I hope you find a reason to stay in eve and continue to play it. There will be many times while playing eve where you might not feel like playing and might quit, the good thing about eve is that you can take a time off or play other games and have a real life as well.
Unlike games like world of warecraft where you need to be rather active to keep up with the small amount of people you know and who are at your "level", eve is is a game where understanding of the game mechanics, tactics, politics, marketing etc etc is more relevant as "level"(skill-points), you can be a grate benefit to anyone if you know what you are doing.
Skillpoints come from nowhere, just train the little things first and continue with the bigger stuff when your little things are really good. Too many think bigger is better and rush to Battleships without being able to fly frigs properly.
You seem to be an determined gamer, if you intend to stay with eve i would gladly help you on your way and can explain most eve aspects and mathematics to you if you so wish, just send me an evemail, open a chat or talk to me via a voice chat tool whatever you wish.
best regards Cap Tyrian

Hmm... you didn't explain why girls down play Eve.
You pretty much explained why almost no one (relatively speaking) plays Eve.
Even I used to feel the same way.
It takes a special (read: Crazy + Patient) person to get into Eve, and while missions are a tool for getting into the game they are not THE game.
If you want any real hope of surviving in Eve, or sticking around period... Well you need to decide what you WANT to do, and find people who are like you.
It actually wasn't easy for me. It wasn't until I got all my real life friends to play that I found something that would engage and challenge us as a group, and now we run our own small, highly profitable wormhole corporation.
So in short:
If you want to stick around in Eve - Find people like you and join them.

Edited by: raukosen on 30/11/2010 11:13:20 The game is not about doing missions, the real game is about doing things with against other players. Missioning is the one thing that more or less allows you to ignore everyone else in the world that that's what makes it bad (aside from it just being boring). Do anything, join a wormhole corp and try out living there, doesn't matter, just don't run missions that think that's the game. Wormholes aren't super interesting in an of themselves from a gameplay perspective, they become interesting as an arena for player interaction. In a wormhole you're not alone and there will be people out to get you. What arises from that is what EVE is about.
Wormholes are just one example of many though. It's the same in low-sec, 0.0, trading, production etc.

Change friends, join faction warfare or RvB and PvP now. PvE is pretty dull in this game.
Also I still wonder wtf does it got to do with being female.

If you like EVE, you like it, what junk you've got between your legs doesn't really matter.
I'm female myself, but I wouldn't say EVE isn't attractive to girls...I would say it isn't attractive to certain kinds of people.

I believe that women are more attracted to socially inviting atmospheres which usually exist in games that are a bit more casual. I really like when I hear women like you enter into the game. I think the MMOs like WOW act as a spring-board to get into games like EVE. As many people call EVE, it is the "Graduation MMO." Anyway, if you ever need any advice or help, please message this name in game.

Its sad that so many people also sit here and say oo "girls go get me food or stay in the kitchen" its pathetic that society acts like that. Its also sad that people cant except peoples opinion. Good job for creating a movie. Even if people don't agree they should see that you put time into making a movie which means you care.
I personally don't think girls play because it is not socially excepted by society and even when we do we get jerks and people that want to be asses and make sexual stereotypes.
Bravo for stating your feelings. I wish more people would and not get harassed. Constructive criticism is fine and only helps.

I agree :)
Also, I was wrong when I stated 10 years, 7-8 years is more accurate!
But yeah :D
I think it is DEFINITELY a debatable topic! Which is good.

I played AC and I believe that it was brutal and had an amazing PK system. And it took a lot of skill because it didn't have the "auto target" of all today's mmos.
I've been gaming since I was 6 years old :X (And I've never stopped playing a game because it was "too hard" )
so far eve hasn't been hard to understand or navigate. I like being new to a game. Learning new things and being surprised is one of the most rewarding things about starting up :) (for me at least)
AC was a massive pile of balls. Thats why it died.
Well, that and because they never fixed anything the players said was broken/imbalanced.
Also, about the WoW comments. I would hazzard a gues that WoW is your 'main' mmo, and you dabble in others. It comes across that way though your video and posts.
I'm also not entirely convinced this isnt just some way to get more youtube viewers/subscribers or just for attention. -------

Hi, EvE is what you make it, but most thing do require isk and skillpoints to some extent, both of which take time... it's a game for people that love a long term goal. Even us PvP'ers who are all in it for the instant pretty explosions are about the crazy long term in one way or another... i'm training for the Sleipnir now, and for me "only 3 months" seems like a pretty short term goal Anyway, girl or boy the only way you'll have a chance of properly experiancing EvE is sticking with it for quite a while. I can see why this'd put new players off though the change in learning skills helped.
Also did you apply to join TSW / Rooks'n'Kings or was that a diff mintchip? Because you might be better served searching for player entities that cover the whole spectrum, instead of more niche groups. You'd probably find it quite boring here without having tried a lot of other stuff first The discussion made us laugh though
"Should we recruit this girl?" "can she pvp?" "no" "well, maybe being able to pvp isn't that important... is she hot?" "she's kinda good looking" "maybe we could recruit her then, is she UK/Euro?" "no" "ah, forget it then."
