Originally by: Pehk Mak'mel'ahma During Hulkageddon III, our former company mined in T1 frigates and did extremely well in terms of sales. We called it Odatrik Ore-A-Thon. If there is going to be a Hulkageddon IV, I'll try to persuade the CEO of our current company to hold another ore-a-thon.
Pehk
I'm open to that idea, since H4 is in February 2011, but I'd like to change the scope of the Ore-A-Thon to include a lot more players and corps than just our own corporation. Just doing it ourselves the last time, though it was fun and very profitable, was too much work. We have time to flesh it out.

On the Hulk (I use 2 accounts), for w-space I swap-out the PDS for a 'Halcyon' wstab. The Orca takes care of hisec belt rats using light drones. For level 4 mining missions, the Orca uses medium Hammerhead II drones instead. The Bustard does all the hauling to the nearest station, where I pick-up the ore later with Charons.
The Orca carries a salvage ship in its Ship Maintenance Bay because I'm OCD about wrecks, and a gas mining ship.

Well the one problem with podding outlaws is that you yourself or going to take a security hit for doing it - and a bigger one than they will get for popping your ship.
Outlaws are always free to shoot at with no penalty, you of all people should know a basic mechanic like that.
First off ... thank you for expressing a degree of expectation for my ponderings that they probably do not warrant ...
Secondly - That was what I thought.
Then I read this:
Quote:
Once that has been done he is no longer a threat and thus if you attack his pod, you are committing a crime yourself and will be punished.
From The Users Guide on Security Status
HOWEVER subsequent searches following your comment led me to find this:
Quote:
Other consequences of the Global Criminal Flag includes
* Security status loss depending on the nature of the crime (penalty gradually increasing from aggression to destruction of property to destruction of life (podding)) * Everyone can legally shoot your ship
From: The User Guide on Global Criminal Countdown.
I had looked at that - but missed the bit on podding being a consequence.
So it would seem that we had both been right ... but that I got myself confused on the issue. Not ever having podded an "outlaw" - which I had thought you could do until I started my little research into the subject - I didn't have any personal experience to reinforce what I was reading.
*shrug*
In any case - Thank You for pointing out my error.

look i do everything but nothing particulary well. that being said i do mine in a hulk, but i realise that if someone is hunting for people flying the ship im in for a month common sence dictates i wont fly that ship for a month (or maybe a bit longer jsut to be safe). yes i do make the majority of my isk from minnign but i also realise that loosing a ship makes me, surprise surprise, loose money to replace it. that being said if your a minner should you maybe NOT mine durring this time? or how bout even better do missions for the npc corp that you refine with to boost your standings with them and thus get a better refine output? if you do absolutly NOO combat well then hell do a courier mission. but to all the would be gankers out there i dont understand how attacking a big imobile target that dies fairly easy (doesnt fight back) is fun? thats like shooting a dead space storage silo. wow ill get right on that. i do understand you wanna shoot something and yes there are prizes so that may be the only reason you are doing it but i know there are some of you out there that just wanna shoot a big immobile target. how bout i go to the belts and make jet cans for you to shoot. its just as much of a challange. i dont know the whole mechanics of hulkagedon but can we maybe this year leave out new players say that have only been playing for a month or less? our goal isint to make new players quit beacuse they cant do even the simplest thing. its to get some kills (easy ones mind you) i dont know jsut a sugestion. i also dont think that anyone should mess with the mechanics and help minners out and be more resiliant or anything hell make them less for what i care (remeber im a minner too) but i do think that logically the minnign lasers should be able to be used as self defence wepons. like honestly they cut rock into tiny peices im sure they can at least cause some thermal damage to a ship or evern a drone. anyways ill just shut my big yap

Edited by: Arna Padrona on 14/12/2010 11:26:56 Hrm. "Interesting" read is one way to describe all this. One side accuses the miners of being dorks, and the other accuses the gankers of being... well, dorks.
Bottom line here: CCP wanted High-Sec to be reasonably safe. Reasonably. The main mechanic to circumvent this was always intended to be WAR - not suicide. Now, if you are carrying enough chashy goods, you are likely to receive a suicide ganking - because it's profitable, and CCP seem to be ok with it. I see the logic myself.
However, players have so much money at their disposal these days, that losing warships over and over makes no difference to them. This in combination with suicide gankings, and the fact that it's way, way, way too easy to keep your sec rating up: horrible mechanic. It's open house for griefers, and it's getting worse every month. You can try to dress it up in any way you like but let's be honest here: 1) You lose money. 2) You attack defenseless ships in high sec. 3) Your only motivation is making other players cry. You are a griefer, congratulations. You don't find this a just a little bit pathetic?
Now, I haven't been involved in high sec mining in a long time so I really don't give a crap about this, but seriously... To the participants in this "event" I have two pieces of advice:
1) Target macro-miners only, or 2) Grow a pair, and go fight someone outside high sec. Stop griefing, you little ****s.

Personally, I HATE hulkageddon. I'm an industrial player/miner not so much by choice, but because my game client has issues rendering acceleration gates. I would LOVE to do missions and gain the extra isk, but something is wrong with accel gates, and I can't.
I'm basically forced to do mining to make most of my isk, so what does Hulkageddon prove to me? That I shouldn't be playing EVE at all, because I can't even do the one thing in the game that my computer will let me do?
Believe me, I understand the idea behind Hulkageddon, and these aren't delicious miners tears here... I just think that the Hulkageddon proponents don't realize that some people choose mining because that's all they can do.

Don't mine during Hulkageddon.
Here's some more useful advice:
Don't bother mining at all because it's almost worthless.
If you should still feel compelled to waste your time, refer to Alara's tips above. And then die in a fire.
1. Easy for me, since I dual box on two accounts. I can dock up the Hulk account and watch my competition burn in space and roast marshmallows on their burning hulls!!!!!
2. Worthless if it's all you do on one account. Not so much if you mine on another account in the background while training it for something better. Some semi-decent passive income.
It's not completely worthless either if you have half an hour you don't know what to do with. The corp I'm in has earned a lot by just casual mining.
Furthermore, if you have a secondary account and a couple of friends with several accounts, you can easily earn money from just mining anything. Right now, my corp is preparing for getting an Orca so we can start emptying some high-sec belts soon.

Two words: trial account.
Yes, because it's totally impossible for CCP to have the client check to see what other accounts have logged in on your machine, and also match accounts with IP addresses and login dates. And, if Hulkageddon participants see suspect behavior, you can certainly expect petitions to come your way to investigate.
Or perhaps...
...Actually, I think OP wins Hulkageddon. Blowing up hulks is one thing, but getting miners banned is taking things to a whole new level!
Yes, because it's completely likely that Hulkageddon participants will see Concord in an asteroid belt during Hulkageddon and petition it as an exploit. Owait...

Dont mind the idea of hulkagheddon as eve is 100% player run. However would like the opportunity to defend ourselves. At moment we could not have freinds in non mining ships who could shoot the hulkagheddon participants before they engaged without getting concorded.
Eve needs to implement more severe penalties when you commit a concordable offense. Fines should be implemented then the fines doubled for each further offenses. This would stop suicide gankers with players being continually killed by concord when he hits negative isk whenever player is in high sec. There is very little risk involved when killing in high sec especially on disposable alts.
Not against hulkagheddon but there needs to be more severe consequences to the offenders.

Edited by: Jason Travers on 15/12/2010 06:23:58 Edited by: Jason Travers on 15/12/2010 06:21:43 Well for me and Ya I'm a CB and I mine run missions ect. no tears here, I just view it like this. I have 3 accounts that I use at one time. I play and have fun and will continue to do so as a few friends on mine in RL do. Things like the gankathon on hulks in high-sec don't bother me because CCP allows it. I know that CCP doesn't support or care about high-sec CB's. Bottom line is the more high-sec ganking of ships in mass like the gankathon the less the game becomes fun. and eventually I will leave the game as will my friends for the same reasons and we will move on to another game.
I realize this doesn't concern the PVP/ganking community but it should concern CCP. Not because my friends and myself would leave the game, but because its this type of inaction from CCP will cause them to lose the CB community. I also know you all don't care but you should. The high-sec CB accounts make up the largest amount of income for CCP. If they lose that they can no longer afford to support the game. In the end they will have to close it down and everyone loses. Well not me because by then I'll have moved on to another game. But anyway just something to think about like the consequences of actions like this in the long term. Oh ya when I do leave no one will get my stuff, I'll probably jet-can it and blow it up or something no kill mails for people because I'll have fun going out like taking on CCP in an epic fight or something. Right now my toons are around the 45-55milSP levels. Mommy that mean ole bear just dukied in my sandbox. :( |

I think Hulkageddon is organised by people that have horded minerals since the last one, in the plans to push up the market before dumping it all.
That, or by the people holding many Hulk BPOs wanting to push up the prices and profit.

I've tested it out with some friends and I'd say you have a pretty darn good chance to survive anything short of 2 BS ganks in 0.5, if you both reacted correctly.

True that! That's the only guaranteed way.
But if somebody insists, we tell them to mine aligned, never mine AFK, and when in doubt, warp out.
Oh, and to hell with drones if ya' need to warp out in a hurry, they're cheap compared to Exhumers - just leave 'em. The few seconds it takes to recall them are a few seconds that could be better used clicking into warp. Engage warp first, THEN recall drones, and maybe they'll get back in time, and maybe they won't. The slow ones deserve to die anyway, so screw 'em. lol

It isn't all you can do. You can work as a corp salvager through bookmarks handed to you in station once a mission is completed by corp members. You can do industry, marketing, manufacturing, courier missions, hauling freight, etc. There are a LOT of things you can do that have nothing to do with flying a mining ship if you bother to think outside a narrow box. -

Technically using a trial account to summon Concord falls under creating disposable alts to summon concord if your intention is to never fully activate that account and use it for any other purpose than to summon concord to protect yourself while mining. -

Something a small group or a few in a corp could do is, when a group of you go mining in a belt, someone that isn't planning on mining log on an alt and take a popshot at you to draw concord. If a person is on with their own account and not a trial account, (it doesn't have to be their main)can sacrifice themselves to concord over and over as long as they are not worried about their alts sec status. After H4 they can then dump the alt. The rules do not say you can only use your main, they say you cannot use trial accounts or recycle alts. So what if you are a really bad ganker and get blown up by concord and get a new newbie frigate to do it all over again.
It could be considered greafing by using the newbie frigate to continually shoot at you to keep concord there, but it's only greafing if you are reported by the ones being greafed (the ones mining). So if you have someone that is willing to "greaf you with a newbie frigate every so often" and you decide not to report them as a greafer, your in good shape. It doesn't matter if they see or not. It is not an exploit because you are not recycling your alt. It is a completely separate person doing it and they are not recycling their alt when the sec status gets to -2. It would technically fall under greafing but only if the agressed reports it. They can then log on to another alt they might have on the same account, you have 3 toons per account. Also If you have a few friends willing to do this for fun during that time, they can take turns and they might not get their alt to a -2 sec status.
