(I was uncertain which forum to place this post in, I felt this was the most appropriate, I apologize if it isn't)
I've looked around and haven't really found too many worthwhile suggestions from experienced and seasoned players on this subject so if said experienced or knowledgeable players would be so kind as to share some of their insight on this subject, I would greatly appreciate it as I am sure newer players would as well.
My hangar is usually full of items I am uncertain as what to do with. Some items have no demand, some sell for low, or some just seem worthless.
I generally reprocess all un-named T1 loot, and throw the rest on an Itty and take it to Jita to unload and sell.
Are there better ways to handle accumulated loot? How about dog-tags, what options are available with those, and how would one maximize profit using these?

Use sort by meta feature. Sell any Meta 3/4 items on the market
Reprocess Meta 0/1/2 items for minerals and sell the minerals on the market.
Sell tags to NPC orders. If there are no NPC orders in your region to buy them then move them to a trade hub to sell (or move them to a different region...) You can tell it is an NPC order b/c it will have 364 days remaining. Player orders have a 90 day max.

Another suggestion would be to hoard the meta 3 and 4 stuff for when you eventually decide to go pvp, that way you will have a load of items ready to throw onto your cheap T1 pvp learning ships. Or, if you in a corp, donate to a central fitting tab. That way, your new guys can have better stuff without spending a fortune.

Another vote for "Melt everything that isn't META 3 or higher" then sell it all, minerals and loot, at the nearest trade hub. Find out what the highest LP to ISK item is available from the corp that you mission with and make a note of what tags are required. Keep a container in your hangar to store those. In the past I would separate the stuff that I could sell for profit and put them on the market with sell orders. Stuff that was not profitable I would recycle and then sell the ore. The sell order prices would have to be adjusted regularly to get turnover. Pure hassle!! I was stuck at the market when I could've been missioning.
It's far more convienent to auction everything in one go. I've sold 100k m3 loot for 900M ISK and a few months ago 329k m3 for 3B ISK. Everything (worthless or not) was in the auction: tags, insignias, mods of all metas, ammo, salvage, commodities, implants and whatnot. The only things that cannot be auctioned are slaves and drugs. I held back some large cap boosters and crystals for missioning.
If you want to auction your loot then heres what to do: 1. Move all your stuff to a major trade hub. Amarr (Family Oris) is closest for me. 2. Put all your loot in a Station Container. Containers are really cheap on the market. Make sure you have lots of volume to sell. 3. Use Eve Refinery to appraise the value of the container's contents. 4. Make a concise ad. My last auction ad looked like this. 5. There are usually more players on weekends. On a sunday (late afternoon or early evening) create a public auction for your loaded container. Set minimum bid with 1M ISK to draw interest. I left the buy out value blank. Set duration to 7 days so it ends next sunday. 6. Wait an hour (give or take) and post your ad in the Sell Orders forum. 7. If you have an open character slot create a new character at Jita and advertise on the local chat with a link to your auction. I usually spam the chat when I'm about to log out for the day. 8. Reply to your forum ad daily to move it back to the top.
Once all that is done go back to missioning or what ever you do. Bids pour in at the start. Who doesn't have 1M ISK? The bidding flat lines until the last day. Bidding picks up again when there is less than 24 hours left and players try to guess the true end time. Spam Jita local chat with your auction towards the end.
I got lots of convos and mails regarding one of two things: whats the exact auction end time and buyouts. Do not reveal the true end time. Players with buyouts will try to get you to cancel you auction and sell directly to them for some low value. Buyout offers were usually 12-30M ISK with stuff like I'm so poor or my acct just got hacked and I need to rebuild or you're loot is worthless and you're not going to get anything better than 12M ISK I'm offering. Politely direct all the buyouts to the auction. |

^^ this is exactly what you should do.

I apparently I take the long way. I accumulate several Giant Secure Containers worth, take it all to Jita, stack all and then examine each item type, comparing sell value to what I get from reprocessing. If the sell value is a very low percentage for regional value, I call up the market data, if the difference of buy and sell orders times the number in the stack is more than 500,000 ISK I'll pass it to my trading alt who sets up sell orders.
For some items the money you can get is way more than the mineral value, but at the same time even some Meta 4 can be worthless. Named Weapon Upgrades and ECCM come to mind.
This is more time consuming, but gets you more ISK than some of the other methods. Since often you've got hundreds of stacks due to variety of items found in loot. I guess a more extreme version would be sell orders for everything, though you might need a lotta SP in Trade to try that!

I use this, linked a bit lower down the front page. Takes a lot of the brain damage out of figuring out what individual mods are worth.
