Are 4s really more profitable for zero risk?
No, more profitable but not 0 risk, they happen in populated areas where anyone can suicide you, war dec you, etc only mitigating factors are no wardec in NPC corp, suicide can always happen for fun or more likely for profit if you are one of those 'elitist' people who spend billions to do the same thing another ship can do for a fraction of that cost.

You play the way the game was intended, they just take the bottom feeders option.
Most people that spend billions on their mission ships do so to improve their ISK/hour so they can spend less time missioning and more time PvPing, or so they can afford to PvP in a better quality ship (tier 2). Any upgrade you put on a mission ship will pay for itself in a fairly short amount of time as long as you don't get it blown up.
I'm not sure what "play the game as intended" means, as this is a sandbox and there pretty much isn't an "intended" way of playing. If missions and highsec weren't intended, then the game would only have missions in lowsec/nullsec areas. Furthermore, the game wouldn't have faction/deadspace modules as nobody would want to risk using them on ships that are destined to be lost in PvP.

Who said he doesn't use it? Most folks use the money they get from PvE to do PvP. He was specifically saying why do an inefficient method of PvE to pay for his PvP.
My mission runner funds my PvP Faction warfare alt. My mission runner will be dodging incursions like a champ because I don't do PvE for fun, I do it to fund PvP.

You should change your story a little: "I make 20 mil per hour ratting in Venal, at considerable risk, and then I give what I made to this hot chick and the risk impresses her so we make out. Every hour. How about you? What's the chick-to-guy ratio over where you live?"
