I have a 3 account ore and ice mining corporation. I would like to see changes to the mining system only to get rid of macro miners. If I want more excitement I do ninja mining in low sectors. I do not want to risk a 500 mil Orca or a 145mil hulk just for more excitement. I want to get my ore and get out.

Originally by: Ranka Mei I too appreciate that you're trying to do here, but what it would really accomplish, in the end, is just more unbalance. Serveral big corps will gain control over most mining activity, creating near monopolies, driving up the mineral prices like crazy.
Sounds like fun; those corps would make great war-dec targets.
And why would driving mineral prices up be a bad thing? From what I understand, right now they're in the toilet.

Sounds like a fast way to get rid of the giant low value rocks in a 0.0 belt. Incoming massive amounts of A/B/C coming out of respawning large asteroid clusters.

This is probably the most interesting and exciting idea i have seen on here in quite some time. the idea to be able to wage industrial PVP in this way would add quite a bit of depth to the care bear world as well as to null sec wars. i imagine the most of this type of behavior would be happening in low sec and null sec. the faster more wasteful process would allow for easier ninja mining in low sec, and the ability to "choke" you opponents in null by cutting off or stealing there resources.
I only have a couple of ideas that I might add, first how about adding a danger factor to this, like the chance of a damage cloud appearing while mining Mercoxit. Providing a consequence for over use and making it easier to implement being as though the code is pre-existing.
Or if there is too much up roar in the high sec care bear crowd, make this a practice only available for use in low sec and null sec, using the restrictions for moon mining for instance. therefore it would have little effect on the starter systems with low value ore, as well as increasing the allure to mine the better ore in low sec as it can be acquired at an expedited rate.
imagine running ninja gravimetric sites in 0.3 systems in small gangs. a couple guards scanning and a few buddies in rigged out covert extractors. that actually sounds like a blast.
Also in closing i would like to add that i am an industrial care bear type. I have mined for years, smashed ore in a rorq, pulled in cans in an orca and of coarse, going even farther back, sucked on veldspar in a bantam. Screaming "any changes to mining only benefit pirates" is uneducated. A little excitement and the chance to participate in the war effort more than simply dumping trit into the corp hangar would add incredible value to this game.

Driving up mineral prices means I'd have to pay more for my ships. :) And having to pay more for my ships, I'd need more ISK. And needing more ISK, I'd need for mining not to become an activity you practically won't be able to solo any more. --

I think in hi sec, null sec and low sec you should have to scan down asteroid belts, like in wormholes. Asteroids randomly change position every day after DT and hisec asteroids get maybe 1-2 of the ABC roids, with 1000 units or less in them. This would counter macros and hopefully make ore prices go up.

Wait, what? Why would you need mining to be a solo activity if you need isk? You seem to be strongly defending the macro miner position.

I agree that grav sites should become about half of the available roids in game, but ABC roids in hisec is a definite no go. Belts are useful for ratters, and noobs also, so I could see more grav sites + destructive mining together being a great change.

LOL. Ever heard of grinding? :) I have an indy alt that mines a lot; and yes, solo. When this new idea would take hold, I'd have to become engaged in complicated, dangerous low-sec/0.0 mining wars (probably only costing me ISK, risk-wise); and I neither have the time for that, nor the inclination. I'd like mining to remain what it currently is: a simply way to make some extra ISK, like PI stuff, for when you need some income -- without the hassle.
Not everything in EVE should be turned into PvP; and being pro-PvE activity does not make one defend the macro miner position (again, LOL). --

Grinding in EVE is dumb. Mining is already a pvp activity; this proposal sharpens that aspect. The solo miner would still exist, but would involve more hunting for grav sites than just warping to blips on the overview. So I'll admit without increasing grav site frequency, perhaps the solo miner would have a harder time.
Furthermore, I am a huge fan of pve AND pvp in EVE, but I despise boring, monotonous, easily-botted pve because it makes any effort spent "grinding" or just playing the game less meaningful.

As a side note, would it be completely ridiculous to apply the same idea to belt rats? Ammo / mods that allow you to kill them very quickly but reduce their bounties and drop rate by 50% or more, and have no effect on other players / mission rats?

I liked the idea of planting bombs on the asteroid's, it would give a bigger reason to hunt down a red in your region as they could be seeding belts for destruction of your mining crews. However a single clocked ship with the ability to deploy such weapons would then be able to remain hidden and mining for as long as they have supplies of bombs.
For this idea to work, we need the ability to find clocked AFK ships or ships clocked and with probs launched. Reason being, a clocked ship with 4 probs can find all the hidden belts and seed them with bombs, this results in over a period of 3 days a complete shut down of a system with no way of stopping this unless you have overwelming numbers with cloaked ships of your own to be ready at each belt.
No self respecting cloaking ship is going to decloak to plant the mines if they see 20 to 40 players in local, more so because planting said bomb would require you to target a rock, launch the bomb, or land on the rock and plant the bomb.
either way, time must become a cost factor to such a weapon. This weapon would be good for a blob of 10 hostiles hopping the belts and planting while the other ships make it look like they are hunting for ratters/miners or other targets.
Basically and in short you are talking about raiding weapons, thus why the weapon must cause problems for the cloak, such as the ability of its invincibility to be removed while the pilot is scanning down hidden belts with probes or AFK for long periods of time.
This AFK issue becomes a problem when you factor in the macros people have, and how hard CCP claims them to be to prove; an issue I can not speak about beyond suggestion as I have no experience in such matters one way or the other.

Edited by: Barbara Nichole on 26/01/2011 05:55:42 In order for your strip mining idea to have merit (well enough for my consideration) asteroids would have to leave residue or husks behind when not strip mining.. as it is we sort of take everything now no matter what we shoot the rocks with so it's an odd proposal.
As a perfect foreman booster, the rate of my team never seems like it needs that much.. I wouldn't push it away is offered.. but how many mine now without a foreman?
Quote: I would like to see changes to the mining system only to get rid of macro miners.
bravely spoken, but you offer no idea as to how to do that.. the truth is there is no way to identify the macroers from the really brain dead people for lack of sleep that doesn't require intrusive spyware.
Could you really just mean,"all my competition" instead of macro?

How about making roids damageable by weapons. They could burn.. I know no oxygen in space .. but some form of eye candy chain reaction..........break them up and tehy float away from the belt.....

Maybe a special ammo type, that damages roids, leaves ore / minerals in it's wake? Could me interesting. Just another venue for the idea really... and make for a truly scary veldnaught.
