Have that card also. 2 monitors works (until my 2nd's power supply blew) - also 3 clients (multiple installs, default graphics/settings) plus plenty of random programs too

Running eve with amd64 3400+, 1gig ram, x800pro vivo.
I'm using an 18inch lcd, at 1280x1024 with max colors/af/aa settings. Have just recently upgraded to a third account, triple accounting seems to be going very smooth up to now.
Will see how my rig performs with all three chars in a belt.
To overheating a radeon 9800's memory, this did never happen to me. And I get even less airflow down there due to me watercooling the whole rig.
What did my 9800 after year of faithful service was a drop of water due to shoddy workmanship. |

I've played EVE on:
Geforce4 Ti4200 GeforceFX 5200 GeforceFX 5600 GeforceFX 5600 Ultra GeforceFX 5900 XT ATI Radeon 9200 ATI Radeon 9600 PRO ATI Radeon 9800 ATI Radeon 9800 PRO
And by far the ATI Radeon 9800 PRO was best. I have around 90fps in space, 40 fpg in fleets, 160-200fps in stations.
I play at 1280x960 windowed mode with 32bit color and 32bit depth buffer. (Athlon64 2800+, 2GB RAM).

Hehe. Happened to me too 2 days ago with my 9800Pro. Now I get a 6800GT (should arrive in the next days)
I also killed my 9800Pro running two clients on two monitors.
I was getting an increasing amount of artifacts and simple crashes.
I eventually determined that of all the potential things that could be wrong; it was the Power supply, at the time I was using an Antec 350W, which just wasn't enough.
Starving a video card is not a good thing.
Cooling wasn't an issue though; I had a Zalman VF700-Cu on it.
I upgraded to an Antec TPII 550W and a GeForce 5500FX and all the problems went away.

ATI Radeon 9600XT is well enough to run Eve flawless on a resolution of 1280x1024. I fitted an Zalman graphics heatpipe cooler on it with fan added, so no noise.. perfect picture. I use this card for over a year now on a Athlon XP system without any problems. No overclocking whatsoever. And the price is nowadays quite fine...

KK, about to do an extensive rebuild.
New mobo, 64 bit processor, 6600GT SLI version (faster than agp, marginally_
Got the gainward version. cant find em in agp ne more. The gainward performs above a GT for some reason. Squares up the the 6600 ultra for performance, and pwns standard 6800 (I think) reason being the 6800 has some of its pipelines disabled. (again I think)
/me reminds himself never to post under the influence)
Will post results when I get them. ----------------

Just my opinion ....
but 40 or 120 fps practically makes no difference in EVE ...
40 fps you can get with 100E Nvidia ...
so ... if you gonna spend 300E on a card - think of what else you'll want to do on it .. what games/applications.

What is interesting is tht I'm running a BFG GF 7800 GTXOC 256mb video card, and it spins up my cards cooler to max sometimes. But the graphics don;t seem like anything special. I eman Half Life 2 tazes it too, but that's at 1600 x 1200 with 8X AA and 16x AS on. What's with the EVE graphics engine?

Is anyone here running a mobo with the Via PT880 chipset and a relatively new nVidia card like a 6200 with the latest drivers?
The real challenge is to find the optimal decisions, which maximize the expected values of specified variables resulting in the most desirable outcome. Praetor Novak - CEO [IMG]http://www.eve |

Nvidia's 6600GTX
pricey, but luvvly
i wouldn't recommend an ATi, as although the framerate etc etc are all similar to nvidia, the picture quality is naff, and the cooling is crap without upgrading it.
one thing i would say, is up the processor and memory b4 the graphics card, eve responds better to this.

If i where you i would not even upgrade the card, if you only play eve.
I recently upgraded from a 9800pro to a X850XT, and i didnt get any FPS increase what so ever.
After alot of debating on the tech. forum (got a post there somewhere), i concluded that EVE gains 100 more times more with a new CPU then a new GFX card.
Dont recall the exact specs, but on a 7800GT card with a 3400+ (whatmodel i dont know), the cpu was the limiter.
Same goes for me and my p4 3k and 850, alot of more FPS in games like quake/doom/fear but minimal increase in EVE.
trust me on this, get a kick ass processor instead.
