I have for a while lived with knowledge that multiboxing with the help of software that 'mirrors' your mouse and keyboard between EVE clients is not legal in EVE. However, it seems I had incorrect information and it has been declared legal, as long as no automation is possible. More specifically 2 relevant forum posts:

I've watched the video in the original post in this thread (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU46QY8lMqI) and I can confirm that nothing done in this particular video is considered to be against the rules as operations within the game are being manually input and not automated. Not having personally used the software in question I cannot say whether it has automation features which would violate the EULA but the specific setup exhibited in the video doesn't break the rules.

To make a long story short, automation of gameplay is not permitted; players must be manually issuing the commands to control their character(s) at all times.
Our stance on programs such as Synergy and hardware/software combination such as the G15 keyboard is that they can be legitimately used as long as gameplay isn't automated. Synergy allows you to move your mouse cursor to multiple different monitors which are hooked up to different computers and we do not have any qualms with players using the program for this purpose. If Synergy was used in some way to control your accounts for you without a need for you to be at your keyboard, then that would not be allowed, but I am not aware of such a functionality with this program. If Synergy is used in conjunction with some other program to automate gameplay, it would not be permitted. G15 "macros" which allow you to group different commands into one keypress are allowed. For example, setting your G1 key to press F1, F2, F3 and so on for you with one key press is allowed (although this specific command is not as useful as it was before now that we have weapon grouping).
An exceedingly complex G15 macro which would effectively automate gameplay, such as mining, without a need for the player to be present at his keyboard would be against the EULA, regardless of whether the player utilizing said macro is sitting at his keyboard at the time!
Lastly, multiboxing is allowed, and programs designed for multiboxing in mind which allow a player to manually issue the same command to multiple game clients at the same time are allowed. In the same vein as what has been stated above, the player must be manually sending the commands; if a program is automating those commands for you, then it would be considered a breach of our EULA.
I hope this clears up this matter.

So I am looking for (preferably free) program that works with EVE for multiboxing, so I could for example set up 5 accounts flying Drakes with the same overview and setup and fly those 5 like a single ship (until one of them blows up ofc). So far I have used EVEWinHelper to switch between the concurrently running clients and insert commands into each window separately, but problem with this approach is that I start losing effectivity in relatively rapid manner after the second account.
So far I have looked at HotKeyNet, but after digging a bit it seems it can (in theory) be automated as it supports rather fancy scripts and I would rather not get banned for using helper program that is not legal in EVE, even if I dont use the features of the program forbidden in EVE. Another issue with HotKeyNet is that it is not capable of mirroring 'click and drag' between clients, only mouse click and keyboard. I do not even know if it's possible to get it working properly with EVE as at first glance it did not work with EVE and is intended mainly for WoW.
Any other suggestions or comments ? Programs that you have managed to get working with EVE ?

I would like to add that HotKeyNet sort of works with EVE, with some limitations - like for example the inability to do click and drag operations of any kind in multiple eve clients simultaneously.
I have managed so far to set up 4 separate installation of EVE (to be able to rename EVE windows as hotkeynet has some problems with that) and then make them all exactly the same size in windowed mode (so the clicks i do happen on the same spot in EVE). In addition EVEWinHelper enables you 'cut out' sections of the target windows (up to 8 windows) so if I so desire I can cut out the overviews from each window and HUD and up them on separate screen for additional micromanagement.
I have set up it so that when I press Scroll Lock down then my mouse clicks are broadcasted to all my clients and while it's off I can control them individually. I'm still a bit consufed about how exactly to set up hotkeynet to properly broadcast keyboard as making a separate hotkey for each shortcut I can use in EVE is tedious, I'm sure there is some clever way to just broadcast anything you do with keyboard to all EVE windows ...
But what I would like to find is something that is compatible with EVE to the point of "Picture in Picture" so I can actually see the content of other clients in a miniframe (have not managet to get it working properly with hotkeynet). It does not need to be pretty but just the general idea what is going on and ability to quickly switch between clients 'in focus'.
As far as EULA goes I'll be fine with hotkeynet as long as all I do is to relay mouse and keyboard and no scripted events happen of any kind.

Have to dig a bit around in options and see if this helps the HotKeyNet to behave better. I'm relatively noobish as far as this program goes. With some trouble have managed to get the ctrl+click overview targeting to work. Although as mentioned I'm not entirely happy as in addition to the inability to click+drag there are some other minor issues with EVE with this program as well. For example warping to bookmarks with all clients at once through second mouse button menu does not work as HotKeyNet does not 'mirror' the mouse movements, only mouse cliks and thus only the 'main' account warps to bookmark and all other clients do just a click in empty space as navigation menu needs mouse movements over it to open the subsections when warping. That is quite serious issue as in fleet battles I usually align to the warp out object through the second mouse button menu as overview settings have only hostiles in there and opening people and places for bookmark use (if there is bookmark for friendly POS for example) is not good for performance during fleet battles.
That out of the way it seems to be one of the best free programs out there compatible with EVE for multi accounting. EVEWinHelper is pretty good as well, especially if you set up "cutouts" from your clients in sensible manner but it supports up to 8 subwindows only and you will still need to click in each window one by one to make stuff happen.

a quick google on EveWinHelper and i see virtually nothing but spyware removal guides... definitely not something i will be touching.
I would like to find something opensource, i'm far too protective of my accounts to be 'testing out' random exe's i find on the 'net...

EVEWinHelper thread in EVE-O forums - there you go - a link to the thread that is home for this program in EVE forums (in fact in the same section as this thread is). I personally have not encountered any 'spyware' problems with this program. And I did scan it with both antivirus and spybot when I downloaded it, as I do with all executable files from the internet.
Unfortunately I have not encountered open soruce programs that are intended for the multiaccounting in EVE. If you find some I would be ofcource rather interested about it, as I'm still looking for something that would fit my needs in more comfortable shape than hotkeynet.
