I've only been playing for a month so have little pvp experience, but it seems most people use similar setups on their ships, so what makes these certain people so special? What do they do that puts them above everyone else?

SP'S and tactics all there is to it, I aint uber but ive flown with waywatcher hes damn good.

I have seen ALOT of people fight in my short time here.
Sassinak- A pain in the ass and the creator of the gankageddon,he is a pure ***** to fight
Zeal Dragon- I didn't have much time on-line when I was in ATUK but I did get to see him fight once,scary as hell I was happy I was in ATUK.
Axel- I fought alot in the GNW amd I saw him in a few fights in the early days in Pure Blind, one of the handful of PA I had respect for.
Stavros- A great guy and a great pilot,seeing him in a inty was why I learned to fly them.
Kileak- the guy who taught Zeal and Dalman,organised the MASS frig squad for the tourney and in my mind the absolute zenith of Apoc pilots, my few talks with him helped forged me into a decent pvper. Talks hardly ever and tries to be a cold player but is just a cool yet sarcastic guy. Oh and has max gunnery in all energy based guns as well as ship support skills and can fly all amar ships and has most of those skills at 5. The OLD school CA may remember him. Hasn't been podded since beta.
Tank Ceo- Undoubtly the ultimate raven pilot, saw him fight a few times in syndicate,just scary. I look forward to working with him in FOE.

Why so much talk about solo BS pilots? Sure its fun and you need to know your ship and set it up. But in the end it comes down to skill points, ship type, and ship setup. I say fighting solo in a ceptor or any frig is so much more fun, and for sure takes more experience to handle.

Solo BS ganking is mainly about fitting...but there are a lot of little tricks you can do in a battleship to get an edge over your opponent, and none of them relate to in game skills as much as real life ability to see what needs to be done in this situation. You do need a fair amount of skillpoints to do it well, but anybody over 10 mil should be able to compete.

I mostly fight alone in small ships, so I run into a different group of people than the BS crowd. I'd probably say the best solo fighter I've fought would be either Sith Bandon (he was in TWB at the time) or Illumino (from NSN). Both do things with Crows that you really don't expect Crows to be able to do. It's all "zip, whoosh, scramble, web, bang, splat, g'bye!". Illumino gets extra points for being a really nice guy, too.

No amount of patches will fix the Tempest if it is you who is flying it
But seriously, Species is a very good pilot.
I would fly alongside him any day (except friday night when he is drunk and in charge of a fleet  )

To operate alone in a battleship behind enemy lines takes alot if you're gonna do it good.
First off, you have no scout, so you'll have to do that yourself in your BS.
And to be able to use the scanner perfectly is essential. For example, if you're in a shortrange mega or tempest, and you find an arma or raven, then you don't want to warp in at 30km range. Then you wanna land 10 km away from him.

The first step to avoiding a trap is to know about it... And the enemy will try to trap you (and no, when they have 15 guys spending 3+ hours camping a gate to keep you and your friend locked down in a system, that's not a trap). Sending out a single ship without guns, only nosf + scramblers + ³bertanking to hold you until his friends arrive is. Having 5 PvP fitted battleships sitting in the belt with haulers warping back and forth, nicely named cans in the belt etc, pretending to be doing a mining op, just to get a chance to kill you, that's a trap.

I would have to say that title goes to Snoy. I have seen him personally gank more enemy bships in enemy space than anyone else. For those of you who don't know snoy has been living in Stain for almost a year now, and he does have a gank squad with him now. But he still goes out solo, and I have see him kill so much stuff it is amazing. Best one had to be when he undocked saw a warp bubble, killed it 3 ceptors, and a jamming scorp, with his tempest, then warped away.
