I'm fine with my Avatar. I was disappointed, that the whole collection of glasses were only consistant of Pilot sunglasses, which all looked alike. Only the last one had a mirror effect - but it doesn't work in the right manner.
for the ppl, who rant about "I clicked on save and now I have this ugly looking lil boy" - what do u think, "save" will do else? And btw, if you choose to make use of all 4 portraits, not the last one will be your portrait. The last one you've selected, will be your Picture.
Btw why has CCP StevieSG still an old Avatar?

Im loving this patch CCP, so much content (was on sisi testing the whole time).
Unfortunately im getting constant crashes on the character screen, i believe an issue with ATI cards (drivers updated)?
I suppose a fix for that would be great.

The more people are creating new character, the more it start looking like 80's but with facebook, definitely ugly, completely out of context, look, we are supposed to be in space with uber advanced technology, so why put 80's clothing/hair style.
Eve is for mature audience, yeah, but it doesn't mean vintage...
we don't know what's your future project for this, i fear there will be a skill to craft cloth and stuff (mature did you say?)
But at least do something for the haircut now. this is not that hard go to your nearest hairdresser ask him for a book to help you to choose decent haircut and go on. and if one of you had one of those haircut, please take time to do something for you. we CAN wait more.

Thankyou CCP for finally fixing Planetary Interaction, ive clicked those extractors hundreds of thousands of times up till now, and I was worried you might stuff it up, but you have come good for us and PI is finally more fun to setup and less clicks to maintain and worth it for ppl other than those of us who are really obsessed and thus put up with the broken system waiting for today.
Lets see you improve PI even further now, maybe change the Processors to operate more like the new Extractors with a single pin controlling all buildings, other than that im not sure what more could be done to improve it. Well done CCP!

When you are in portrait mode and click save intending to save your pose and wanting to go back to character creator to say.. change your clothes and retry a pose without losing the previous... thats it. There is no indication that that is the finalization of your character.
'Save' doesnt necessarily mean Finalize character.. just that you dont want to lose your work.

STOP MODEL FROM MOVING!!! it has been said so many times, i'm sick of it. put toggle on space key, or something.
why are old backgrounds not available? it's just an image. even if it's old res, some were quite unique (like fist-series).
why is there no long hair for men? even female have very limited long hair selection.
let us mod eye shape. Vherokior begs for bigger eye slits.
where is undo? it was in beta test. tho, if models would STAND STILL we woundn't need undo.
let us re-edit portraits ________________________________ : Forum Bore 'Em : Foamy The Squirrel - [jedi handwave] "There is no spoon." |

I like the new character creator but wonder why do some have an oriental look about them. I think maybe you should have made a seperate program from the game to get feedback before implementing it to the client because you would have known about certain problems with more detail. videos do not it, you have to then we try it . Remember you customers are humans who just play games sometimes the same game [EVE] for many years, and people are hard wired to remember faces so it it will be problomatic for a few. Remeber this! they are gamers you are not developers, you like new toys they like a familiar place to go to escape reality.Try not to be so abrupt with changes it will scare a few.To them it's like a whole new game to others it's just a game and they go with the flow.By the way you the AI in the game is still very basic, concord ships at the gates do not look like they have a purpose, maybe you should give them one I.E. look like the scanning ships not just hanging there in space banging against each other aimlessly. You had a chance here to bring animation to the portraits [even if they just blinked] .I apreciate everything is sopposed to be going on inside the players head there are little things you can add,yes it,s an online game but it's the players comp that renders it all, your server is just a script and code cruncher,it doesn't render graphics .unless your at a terminal therefore the terminal renders it with the help of a graphics card.Anyway Just one last expression remember the word GAME PLAY AND FAMILIARITY
I do like the changes [what they are] but im techi.

Im very happy with the cc, but that just bcos i dont give a damn about that portrait, i play bcos its a unique game.
Also i got the impression that eve is a mature game but from the reactions in this thread (ppl crying about the color of pants and such stuff) it looks more like any other kiddo-oriented-mmo.

Yes I want my old portrait back because it rocked and that was "me" for the last 3 years. With the new crap I cant even produce something that distantly looks the same.
And CCP is not forging a new ERRA but a new ERROR.
Displaying the Plex advert in the Character sheet is just a slap in the face. This alone should be enough reason to quit.
We are the players, we pay for the development of this game, we pay their wages. With that in Mind dont you think we should be telling CCP what to do instead of CCP telling us that we have to move forward and accept whatever crap they produce?
Well thank god we have a free-market economy and with that we can vote with our money if Eve is still worth 130Ç a year.

Question about the character creator; I know there are things you want to add, like the tats for example. When they are released, what will happen? Do we get a chance to redesign the entire character, or just the parts effected by new additions. Or will we only be able to re-pose and take new snapshots? How is this meant to work going down the line?
I also believe you should let people get as many do-overs as they'd like for a short while, without having to pester you through petitions. Getting a hang of how the character looks once in thumbnail format is a bit tricky. Also, what happened to the history function in the character creator? It was nice to have a ctrl-z.
Cheerio!

The sun in flickering very badly. I use two accounts. With one account the proplem does not exist. But as soon as the second account starts loading, the sun goes crazy, making it very irritating and almost unplayable when you have to look at the direction of the sun.
Also this only happens when the accounts are in windowed mode. During the previous patch the eve client stopped overlaping the task bar, now it has one more problem, flickering. The EVE window mode is going from bad to worse. I have confirmed in game that other ppl have the exact problem. Please fix it, and while you do that, make it that the window mode overlaps the task bar, just like it was two patches ago...

Add another zealously shouted vote for this! I could swear that the pic I selected is not the one that became my avatar. In fact, it appears to be the worst of my choices (standing too far back).
I saw a notice during a later login suggesting something to the effect that we file a petition if we want to redo our character and that it may or may not be allowed. Forget the petition. Just allow a grace period for the kinks in the character creation system to be worked out and for folks to become familiar with its use. It sucks to be stuck with an avatar you hate just because we have a one-shot chance in a very different and quirky character creator function. ("Quirky" not necessarily implying crappy. Just VERY different and almost overly functional in a sense.)
Another issue. I cannot see (Mac Pro user) a character pic when checking info on pilots in-game unless I have character detail set to High. Low or Medium shows only "The Shadow" guy with the faintly lighted background.

Bad: Planetary Interaction SUCKS. - That slider is freaking bothersome. - Slower framerate while in planet mode (around 50% slower than before). - What is it that i should be able to move and that i can't.??? Oh right, the pinheads ¼¼' - Why didn't you integrate the info window with the extraction window on the master extractors?????????? Constant overlapping of windows is annoying
Bad:
- Cannot enter character creation
Very bad patch for me...

Edited by: Miana Batarr on 19/01/2011 12:55:18 Well, the character creator is nice BUT waaaay too limited.
And it's not even that there's only one pair of glasses, no hats, limited hair-cuts and clothes. Are you really going to tell me that all the people in the EVE universe have the same height? That noone's really fat? Everybody looks nearly the same already.
And the new shortcut-system is really stupid. You can use the same shortcuts twice (OMFG) and then wonder why your drones don't come back but instead the market opens. Even if you delete the "wrong" shortcut the other will still not work - you have to redo it. Did nobody test this crap? The new shortcuts for Align, Dock, Warp etc. often don't work although a target is selected. You have to select it again (and again sometimes).
There's a shortcut to minimize all windows but it doesn't work correctly. If I open the Map and use it the "World Map Control Panel" is NOT minimized. And (of course ) the shortcut doesn't work the other way round. You cannot get the windows back and there's also no extra shortcut for this function. You manually have to click all the buttons at the bottom of the screen to get back the windows to their usual place and size.
Edit: Well, the "World Map Control Panel" now minimizes correctly. It didn't do yesterday so I guess it was fixed today. Anyway I still don't see a way to unminimize the windows.

First of all I have to say the Char creator is definately not bad, it has the ability of producing unique realistic faces, better than I have ever seen in any MMO. props to CCP for that!
The only minor things I dislike are:
1) There's no clear flashy warning that only one of the snapshots you made can and will be used, and you have to select that particular tiny snapshot before pressing save.
2) Lack of choice when it comes to clothing.. But I think Incarna will make us able to choose other clothing in station (and I also hope they will implement a photo option in which you actually can change the pose/look of your avatar, just won't be able to redesign the shape).
For the rest I'm very pleased with the creator, in the old creator you'd often find 'twins' (people who had nearly exactly the same design), and I haven't seen any of those so far and some people rly made some brilliant avatars..

I like the new character generator. I also see it needs some final spit and polish but I realize it's just been released so I understand there will be problems with some aspects. I did mess up and forgot that the currently highlighted image became my avatar upon hitting the done button. I wasn't too worried however because I read about the grace period but then as the game opened I got the message that the grace period had ended! Mind that it was only some 17 hours after the patch was released. I think it would have been better to have a few days grace as some of us work at strange hours or live in time zones that are not UTC and cannot be sitting around waiting to test out a new update minutes after it's released. So if the gods of Eve could somehow give us recent arrivals to the game a bit more grace I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Although it is too early for me to comment about the new Sansha invasion feature since I haven't experienced it yet, I have lots to say about the Planetary Interaction (PI) modifications that were made and the new character editor.
First, I think that the new characters look simply amazing. Everything is better about how they look and I think this is a major improvement over the previous technology. However, I I have to say that the lack of options and choice is disconcerting to say the least. How is it that there is only one model of glasses in the whole universe? Not enough clothes, not enough colour choices for hair/eyes/SKIN!/everything. I was also disappointed that is no choice in the basic face you choose to model from. One bloodline one face. I don't think that's appropriate nor realistic. Unfortunately, it seems that, looking at the Minmatars for example, blacks are warmongering brutes, asians are crafty traders and white men are the smartest engineers. The editor won't allow any variation from that. I never would have thought that the EVE universe would be that bigoted and prejudiced.
For the PI system well, although it was presented to us as a simple change that would simplify our lives you have in fact changed the whole system in a way that make certain types of colonies now completely useless. I happen to be one of those who suffers from that change and my production strategy is now disastrously compromised as I had 5 planets extracting 3 different resources each. I now have only two options available to me : 1) either destroy all my colonies and start over again, redesigning entirely my production strategy. That is going to cost me millions, probably around 25 but up to 45, and that cost is obviously not covered be the measly compensation offered by the extractor refund. 2) either keep my colonies as they are currently, however I'll have to cycle between the production of each resource and each time I change, I'll have to change all my basic industry facilities and reroute everything making this a click fest nightmare. Also, I'll have to somehow find a way to store all the P1 mats in a giant buffer storage somewhere.
So for PI, you have accomplished your goal of making it simpler and more user friendly only for the players who were specializing planets in the production of one commodity. For all others, you've either costs us a lot of money and forced us into specializations, or you've made PI more time consuming than it was before.
In simple words, you've dramatically decreased the size of the sandbox.
PI is not as fun anymore.

Having played with the character creator on Sisi several times over the last couple of months, I found both positives and negatives with the live version today:
Positives: Thank you for getting rid of those terrible wheels of misfortune, which were counterintuitive. I found the dropdown system quite easy to use, and the options subkeys (1-?) quite interesting. Overall, I felt the graphics load on my machine was not overwhelming, although I had set all options to highest level before I logged in. (Before I get flamed for this one, please note I'm running WinXP, 2 Gigs ddr2, on a 4 year old motherboard with Intel Quadcore 8200 and a factory set NVidia 8800 GT (512), so not exactly "state of the art".) I had very little lag, and sculpting presented no difficulty @ 1920 X 1080. I feel the accessory/clothing options, while quite limited, were acceptable (no high five, but acceptable) for the release, considering the use intended (character portrait only) at this stage.
Negatives:
Sometimes when posing, you accidently end up sculpting. Sculpting should be disabled by the time you reach the pose/lighting/background phase. The Back Button: Means SCRAP IT ALL. And should be LABELLED as SCRAP. "Back" means, intuitively, to me, "I want to go back a bit (a couple of stages or so) to change something, which will go better with this option I'm at NOW." Yes, the warning box is nice, but we get used to ignoring those, and it looks like a tagged on "fix", which it isn't, really.
Photo Time: At 1920X1080, the actual character creation area you are modeling on is the centre 1/2 (1/4 on each side is used for the interfaces). IE, a tall rectangle. But when you take the photo, it's "squashed" into a square. This has 2 obvious results:
1. your character's face gets fatter. Solution: change the pose area to a square, instead of a rectangle, or warn people to change their resolution to something as close to a square as possible before they start (although this migh fubar the previous stages of creation, I dunno.) THIS, more than any other thing, is annoying, and affects the saved photo immensely.
2. Your character now appears to be looking just over the top of your head, instead of right at you. This can be overcome by trial and error at the viewpoint stage, but it needs to be explained.
Photo Time: Blinking. Just unecessary. Get rid of it. If you can't get rid of it without losing the other facial movements, fix it.
Photo time: I think 4 snapshots is very handy, to compare the changes when you move the pose slightly, or change the lighting. HOWEVER, here I think we need that warning box. "WARNING: You are about to complete your character creation, using the portrait HIGHLIGHTED on the left of your screen. You will not be able to change or recreate this character. ARE YOU SURE?"
Overall Score : 8/10 In my opinion, we got about what I expected. Not a polished product, but usable and quite beautiful, if the player is WILLING TO TAKE THEIR TIME to do it right, and not rush through. I'm satisfied. Saying that though, if its still like this in 6 months, the grade will drop from pass to fail. Good luck.
Brunette By Birth...........Blonde By Nature. ------------------------------------------------ "Your suffering will be legendary, even in Hell." "No tears, please; it's a waste of good suffering." |
