EVE Voice has been released in a beta format on EVE Gate and it is straightforward to use, however, there is some information that players need to be aware of in order to use it properly.
If you want to use EVE Voice on EVE Gate, you have to join a voice channel in the EVE client. You only need to do this once per character and, after having joined a voice channel once, you will be able to use EVE Voice on EVE Gate forever. In order to join a voice channel you need to do the following:
1)Start the EVE client and log in as your character 2)Make sure that EVE Voice is enabled in the ôAudioö section of the ESC menu (should be by default) 3)Right click on the Corp tab in your chat window and choose ôJoin audioö
After having done this you can leave the audio channel ingame as EVE Voice on EVE Gate will work as intended.
Limitations: òThe EVE Voice plugin that EVE Gate uses is not available for 64 bit browsers. If you are using Internet Explorer 8, make sure to use the 32 bit version. òNPC corps do not have voice channels, so starting EVE Voice on EVE Gate while being in an NPC corp will result in an empty channel list
If you are in a player corporation and your channel list on EVE Gate is empty, that means that you have not joined an EVE Voice channel using the EVE client previously. Simply read above for information on how to fix that.
A full Dev Blog will be published in the near future with further details.

In the future - will we be able to join other channels as well? It would be nice to have a list of channels so I can switch from intel to corp.

Certainly CCP is not going to limit Eve Voice over Eve Gate specifically to player corp chat, or use that as some sort of prereq, but is planning on its player base being able to enable Eve Gate audio in any channel where Eve voice is currently able to be used within the client itself. Right?

Does this procedure enable eve-gate voice chat for that PC, or does it enable it for that account, or that character?
I.E. can I join eve voice chat from my home pc, then get into it from eve-gate at work?

So CCP, What your saying is that eve voice in eve gate only works for the corp channel? No other channels work for it in eve gate? (I can't logon to check because eve gate is down and this 1GB patch is a killer).
So, even though I am on in voice in several player channels -- it will still not work for me because I never joined a player corp?
Wow, just wow CCP.
Not that I'm surprised, but I am a little disappointed.

I did that and there is still an empty channel list on EvE Gate. Using Google Chrome.

Edited by: Ulair Memmet on 18/01/2011 23:35:03 That's just awesome.
Would it be possible to implement it so that people ingame can see that a character is not online, but available in eve voice? Currently you have to be in th EVE voice channel ingame to see the guys using the browser thingy. I mean you'd have to clearly mark them as "offline but available via EVE-voice". Like this distinct "G" icon which sets them apart from the "really" online guys.
I'm asking this because i know that many people don't join the voice channels by default but maybe they would if they see a buddy is there using the browser-voice only.
Edit: Allowing us to chat would be slick too --------------------------------------------------

Same here. No list of channels in EVE gate voice. Tried with all 3 characters on all three accounts. Started by joining the corp chat EVE voice in EVE client. Does not work. Use Firefox 3.6.13 running Windows 7 64 bit. ALso tried with Internet Explorer.
Any suggestions CCP!?

Edited by: CCP Aporia on 19/01/2011 11:51:31 About the problem of some corporation channels not showing up properly on EVE Gate: There was a small synchronization issue which should have corrected itself with today's downtime. If the problem still persists, please let us know and we will take another look.
Originally by: Jim Luc In the future - will we be able to join other channels as well? It would be nice to have a list of channels so I can switch from intel to corp.
There are plans to extend EVE Gate voice to support more than just alliance corporation channels. We would really like to deliver the same functionality the client provides, and that includes fleet channels and player channels as well, but there are some more technical issues to resolve first for this being possible.
Originally by: PTang So... the big question that everyone should be asking...
if the eve client drops... does voice gate stay running?
If you were using EVE Gate Voice right away then you should be able to continue using it even if the client dies. We are even working on a solution for having EVE Gate Voice resuming the client's session so we can get rid off that limitation.

Just to rule out the possibility that this is an issue with the browser cache: Have you tried a forced refresh of EVE Gate Voice in your browwser, i.e. pressing ctrl+F5 or keeping ctrl pressed while clicking on the "refresh" button in your browser? Also, which specific version of Firefox are you using on what operating system? :)

1. Ive deleted all cash files. 2. Ive tried both ctrl+f5 and simply f5. 3. Ive tried to use IE 8 and Fox 3.6.13. OS is Windiws 7 32bit
It seems that there is no synchronization between eve voice and evegate voice.

Here's what happened to me: I opened the EVE Gate Voice with Firefox first, it asked me to install the addon, I accept, install, restart the browser. The voice page open but no channels list. I open the EVE Gate Voice in Chrome, ask me to download and install the Vivox exe, I download, install, still no channels on the list. Then I read that I have to join the channels ingame first (didn't seen this thread so didn't knew that). I join ingame, still no channels before today's DT. After DT I try with firefox, no luck. But the Chrome shows me the Alliance and Corp channels I remove the firefox addon and restart firefox and.. SURPRISE !! I get the channels in firefox too
P.S. Didn't tried to see if they really works as I'm @work atm and no mic, but gonna see if can find someone ingame to join one chan and say something for me

Hiya folks, thanks for your input and here are some responses. Not sure whether they are useful or not tho ;)
Originally by: Jaik7 somehow i got the impression that we would be able to enter eve text chat from the gate too. am i misunderstanding or is this so?
Your impression was wrong, chatting with people is a completely different subject and is technically not feasable at the moment. EVE Voice on EVE Gate is about voice only. I personally would give anything for having chat on EVE Gate but we are simply not there yet.
Originally by: PTang So... the big question that everyone should be asking... if the eve client drops... does voice gate stay running?
Yes it will.
Originally by: Boiglio Certainly CCP is not going to limit Eve Voice over Eve Gate specifically to player corp chat, or use that as some sort of prereq, but is planning on its player base being able to enable Eve Gate audio in any channel where Eve voice is currently able to be used within the client itself. Right?
Yes, this is the ultimate plan, of course. Right now we can only make sure that this (mostly) works for alliance and corp channels, tho, this is why player channels have been omitted and this is also one of the reasons why we are considering this as beta.
Originally by: Shasz Does this procedure enable eve-gate voice chat for that PC, or does it enable it for that account, or that character? I.E. can I join eve voice chat from my home pc, then get into it from eve-gate at work?
The procedure enables access for the specific character to the specific channel. So if you join voice in your alliance and corp channels ingame once, you will be able to to use EVE Voice for that character from wherever you want, whenever you want. For example from the office next week.

I understand what you are asking but the current implementation model is very far from allowing this to happen. The displaying of the EVE Voice-only users is relying on information only found on EVE Voice and in order for your client to obtain this information, you have to be EVE Voice. It's a nice candidate for future development tho.

This is good, that means that the plugin installed correctly and there is some kind of authentication problem. Can you please join an EVE Voice channel using the game client and see if it really really works? Do you get the "Joined voice channel: Corporation" message and does the little red light on the corp tab?

I have the very same problem, at the same time does not work, eve client off does not work etc.
Some things that might help:
1. Im running two clients, sound/eve voice is deactivated on second client. No special slash commands in the shortcut that starts eve. 2. Im on a german Vista 64bit, yet i play eve in english.

I noticed the plugin is called something xyz.win32.zxy. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. Does it not work with 64 bit Windoze?! Also, using Firefox - should one have a 32-bit version of that too? Internet Explorer in Windows 7 64-bit - anything there that might sabotage the ViVox plugin?

How do I determine if the Firefox v3.6.13 I'm running is compiled for 32-bit or 64-bit? Going to mozilla.com there seems to be only "standard downloads" indicating that it should be 32-bit - I think?

It works fine for me. But... when I close the EVE Client, and I log out of EVE. Then joining the eve-gate voice, people can hear me, but I can't hear them. Would be nice to do it independed from the Eve-Client. Also Fleet Voice would be pretty important... ofc. bind to the eve-client this time :)
And it's annoying that u need to focus a eve-voice browser window in order for ptt to work.

EVE Voice Beta doesn't work on Chrome 32-bit Browser on Ubuntu 10.10. I'm pretty sure it is not yet supported on Ubuntu, but as long as no one states that, it won't get noticed.

not working ... why? in my language "speakers" == "głośniki" (i think that the same problem will be with croatian "Zvučnik", and many other CE and EE countries)
so i have 3 "music output devices": Głośniki (standard laptop speakers) NVIDIA HDMI Out (HDMI) Realtek Digital Output (?)
deafault are "Głośniki"
and script on Gate EVE Voice has a problem with letter 'ł' and 'ś' in function "decodeURIComponent" at 3173 in file vivoxVoice.class.js utftext = ".....<Type>DefaultSystemDevice</Type></CurrentRenderDevice><EffectiveRenderDevice><Device>G¦o£niki (Realtek High Definition Audio)</Device><DisplayName>G¦o£niki (Realtek High Definition Audio)</DisplayName><Type>SpecificDevice</Type></EffectiveRenderDevice><CurrentCaptureDevice><Device>Default System Device</Device><DisplayName>Default System Device</DisplayName><Type>DefaultSystemDevice</Type></CurrentCaptureDevice><EffectiveCaptureDevice><Device>Mikrofon (Realtek High Definiti</Device><DisplayName>Mikrofon (Realtek High Definiti</DisplayName><Type>SpecificDevice</Type></EffectiveCaptureDevice><Connectors>...."
if i changed deafult output to "NVIDIA HDMI Out" its working
in eve client eve voice its working with "głośniki" but keep showing as "G¦o£niki"

Confirmed! I changed the name of sound devices from rus "Динамики" and "Микрофон" to "Speakers" and "Microphone" accordingly in Control panel -> Sound and it works! This works for Win 7 Rus 32bit.
So, here is the solution, but anyway Vivox or anybody else must fix this trouble.
I have also checked Win XP Rus, everything works from the box.

Got the same, so installed windows version of firefox through wine and the plugin works just fine with it -- I take offense on people feeling offended by me |

If you are in a player corporation and your channel list on EVE Gate is empty, that means that you have not joined an EVE Voice channel using the EVE client previously. Simply read above for information on how to fix that.
Joined corp and alliance on my main toon (Not shown.lol) .It will not appear in my channel list.

is thhere any way we coil get an EVE Gate applet? I use the Adobe AIR app for Pandora Radio and it seems to work quite well.
Running this in the background would open up a lot of possibilities. EVE Voice as always on for one. Calendar events, news, blog posts, skill que. He'll I would venture a guess and say you could probably run chat through it.

I was able to listen to the live dev blog today at work. I know it's a small thing, and while at work I won't be able to chat with anyone else, but it was an incredible feeling to be able to connect.
Now - it doesn't work for Chrome Mac OSX Snow Leopard, but DOES work for Firefox OSX Snow Leopard.
It DOES work for me in Chrome win7 x64. This is the browser I used to listen in on the dev blog today.
So, when will my iPad and Android app be ready?
Also, and I know I'm getting ahead of myself here, but text chat is also a big thing I'm interested in - possibly even more than EveVoice.

Anytime a "BROWSER-plugin" requires a specific OS, I just sigh.
This "BROWSER" feature fails under linux. It DOES work if you install FF or chrome/chromium under wine though, so gotta love how the BROWSER plugin isn't really.

I've got both a proxy and a firewall I've hardly control of (Or, with other words from somewhere else: 'Don't play on company time'), and the channel list stays empty until I get the descriptive error "undefined10007". (From home it worked before)
What are the requirements (ports, allowed protocols) to have this running? -- We race. We die. There is no beauty anymore. |

TS3, Vent, Mumble, Skype, etc etc etc.
All of them work better and are orders of magnitude more reliable then EveVoice.
Can we have the expansions, actual gameplay features, from the last 3-4 years tweaked and fixed?
