i just read the post by CCP fallout and there was something that cought my attention,
"We will be announcing the end of the grace period at a later date, and will provide plenty of notice. But once the grace period is over, you will have to use the new character creator to design your characters."
my problem is my pc cant handle the new character creator, i wasnt really bothered about it anyway because i enjoy the flying spaceship game, not dress up barbie, however, the thing that caught my eye was,
"you will have to use the new character creator to design your characters"
the way is sounds is i wont be able to play eve until i get a new pc, just because of the new dress up barbie feature,
in my oppinion that is totally wrong,
thanks CCP

I think that the issue is that if the machine is adequate enough to play the game itself, then these requirements should be no less than what's required to dress your BarbieToon.

that's your opinion.
unfortunately ccp and everyone else says, "quit crying and stop trying to play eve on a glorified graphing calculator".
it's the twenty first century for crying out loud, it's about new and better and upgrading and keeping up... not satisfying your broke ass
no one cares we will all leave you in the technological dust and do so happily. if you can't keep up maybe you should play another game.
stop crying and go buy a basketball.
--- Players are losing faith and loyalty in CCP due previous expansions not living up to player expectations. The CSM and CCP agreed that expectation management can be improved |

QQ, my comp can barely handle it either, but yet it can handle full graphics with full bloom. Also, can you play any of the newer games that are out?

This is just stupid. Out of HOW MANY expansion have not been able to 'play'?
2nd edit: Free expansions I might add. That money (upwards of 60 bucks other companiers charge per xpac) could be used to towards a new v-card. Buy a used one. --- DIE |

I am not sure how long you've been playing this game but EvE has become increasingly more detailed and improved since its inception. At some point you must have seen this coming? At some point you must have thought that after so many years this game would become more difficult to run on inferior equipment?
Computer technology increases at an exponential rate, surely you don't think one computer would be able to run this game forever right? At some point you were going to have to upgrade.
At some point you need to have better foresight. I run a less than perfect machine so when I heard about the new Carbon technology being implemented and the detail in the characters (not to mention the next Incarna expansion) I took a few bucks from every paycheck for a few months and bought an NVIDIA geforce GTX 460.
Either way crying will get you nothing but flamed horribly.

Like someone said before, you don't need to be in the editor for long, Just ram the Randomize button, press next, press next again and you're done. ---

try ticking the box to use lower res models in the Character Creator, or set your shader to low, just to create the model. My system cant handle the Character Creator on uber high graphics mode, but works just fine by ticking the 'user low resolution models' on the esc menu.

Okay like the OP I cannot create a character. Regardless of what setting I choose it freezes up once the Entering Character Creation bar gets fill. I have that window and a blackscreen. If I log in and use one of the blank toon slots to create a new one I get to race selection and then it goes into a perpetual spiral loading blankscreen. I have a PC that is less than a year old and have no issue with other games or playing EVE with high graphics (although to speed gameplay I keep it all low because I am more about the game than graphics). I personally think there is something wrong with the creator itself. With my PC being fairly new I am not about to buy a new one or a new graphics card just to play something I already pay $180.00 a year for. So what should I do quit the game I enjoy or take CCP to task on making changes that prevent me from accessing something I pay for when ny equipment is not outdated?

The date of purchase is irrelevant. A lot of Brand new computers (lower end) are still using integrated graphics cards which would be the biggest issue. Give us some specs about your computer and operating system.

I agree. It is quite stupid how you can support the game but not the char creator, typical CCP tbh.

Well, an upgrade will be needed when Incarna comes out anyways. So really even if your comp supports the game now it probably won't next expansion.

English language failure.
Let me translate: "Indeed, CCP should continue support for Commadore 64 and Vic 20 (unintelligible). Cook my skin on high heat! How dare they take advantage of those of us still using hardware from the Paleolithic era?"

Yep... sucks.
To be honest, I think CCP's estimate of 0.3% impact comes from the same place as most internet statistics. I'm impacted, and interestingly enough, when I asked around in my corp, there was a heck of a lot more than 0.3% impacted. The only thing is most of them were comps used to run alts. It's not going to cause instant losses of mains subscriptions, but probably a lot less mining on backup computer while you're main is on the boring part of a roam.
I'm debating whether to shut down 2 subs that generally ran on the backup comp. I dunno... maybe not.
For all the troll responses saying that everyone is whining eve won't play on a 386/commodore 64/etc... I gotta sympathize... it's absolutely ridiculous to change the system requirements with 2 days notice. Frankly, I support CCP in updating their systems, but 2 days notice was a major *******s on their part.
It really points towards managers not on top of their own development. I understand that it's an issue with a 3rd party developer, but it just points to the ongoing severe quality issues that we see in so many other areas of eve. CCP does not have good control of their own development and handling of issues.

I support the OP - it's a bad idea to have a non-integral but 100% necessary part of the install process have a greater system requirement than the game itself.
There should be an option for 'I don't care, randomise me a toon' without having to load up the creator - just to ensure that those with low end computers don't find they can no longer play the game because they can't handle the character creator.
Afterall, flying in black space shooting at red boxes is what the game is about.

Have you tried disabling the PhysX option and setting the 'Character Creator' setting to low?
Those are new settings that came with the patch, and were set to medium per default on my system.

I know this may seem harsh... but it's about time CCP starts weening people off of their Macintosh and Commodore 64 platforms. I mean, it's 2011.. if there ever was a time.... Also, it's quite obvious, that at this point in time you're sitting here reading my signature. |

ThereÆs no point in acting surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years, so youÆve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and itÆs far too late to start making a fuss about it now. à What do you mean youÆve never been to Alpha Centauri? Oh, for heavenÆs sake, mankind, itÆs only four light years away, you know. IÆm sorry, but if you canÆt be bothered to take an interest in local affairs, thatÆs your own lookout. Energize the demolition beams.
...point being, the fact that we are redoing our characters has been known for months and has had the ability to be tested on SiSi for just about as long
as for the "end of the grace period", its probably gonna be at least a week or two from the 18th

Awesome logic.
Have you already performed your hardware upgrade for the expansion after Incarna? It will happen, we all know it will happen, so you might as well do it now. Have you done it already? No? Well better hurry, you know you will need it eventually...

Seriously, if this is a major issue check you meet minimum specifications, then check the list below:
1. Do you meet the specifications for the game? Not what YOU think they are, but the LISTED specifications taking into account the most recent devblogs etc.(If yes skip step 2 and go straight to 3) 2. If not, you don't have a leg to stand on. Rage like a fool . Also CIHYS? 3. Bug Report and/or post in the Tech Support forum section.
Optional: Post in GD like a tool and get flamed.
This simple guide should help you look less like an utter tech-illiterate second class internet citizen. Or not. New banner soon! |
