That's air defense, though. Tactical controlling is a bit different; lots of excitement for an hour or so but 2 hour pre-briefings and 2 hour de-briefings...I've sat in a de-brief for 4 hours before. Of course, you usually drink beer with the pilots at that time. Air/Space Defense is where it's at for maximum f*cking around.

As long as you're not watching ****, go for it.

As long at the PC you can play on is not connected to the same network as the business side of the silo what harm can it do? Take the NSA or other spook related agency for example, they commonly have two separate PC's on their desk, one for their internal secure network and one for everything else. A lot of large corporate networks have a green (public side) and a secure red side network with very limited connectivity between them. It's not as if they have the launch controls plugged into the same router as their Eve PC. You may find that the connection is wired only and only in a separate room form the business part of the silo. As someone else has said, you want to keep the person who's finger on the button sane don't you? So allow they to talk to their families and keep in touch with the world (monitored of cause) as well as provide recreation for them it makes sense to provide an broadband line to the silo. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions.

Customers always want your attention at the most troublesome of times. I actually got quite a few people hooked on EVE by doing some mining while helping people..
