Edited by: Panzer on 25/01/2005 03:51:22 Its not just that. Between two very skill pilots the vagabond would win. The deimos can't do crap against the vagabond because of its speed. The only way the diemos has a chance is to run and turn the other direction, hoping the vagabond's reaction is slow enough so it can get out of warp scramble range and warp, or if the vagabond makes a mistake and lets the deimos get too close.
Unless the cap on the vagabond is that bad to where it can not run a mwd for long. I haven't fought a Vagabond so honestly I can't be sure, but I have fought something similiar, the cyclone.

Originally by: Panzer Actually the Deimos can tank decently. Can it Tank a raven or gankageddon?.... no of course not, but what can? I have a setup that can tank all day when not using a mwd while shooting guns. And MWDing while tanking doesn't abosutely kill your cap. But of course you can't run it forever with both mwd and armor repairer active.
I have 6 videos of a Demios in Action, all killing BS's. The first vid it takes down a Megathron single-handedly, then it takes down an Apoc, a Gankageddon, a Tempest, and 2 Ravens (obviously not all at once). In all but the Megathron video it had the help of an interceptor. The last vid it was fighting a Raven and got it to about 10% structure before it was taken down. In the video you can see the Raven was using all torps because of the blast radius, there were no cruise because the blob of missiles stayed together. The only thing I don't know is if it was mining and only had 4 launchers on it, or 6. Demios rocks! The only visible tank it had was an armor repper(unsure of what size but most likely a t2 med), it had all it's passive mods hidden.

With the falloff bonus 425s will outrange any blasters on a deimos because of their naturally long falloff... but you're not gonna be hitting much so getting through the deimos's tank might be problematic.

Edit : well actually i guess, shield tank would prevent web and disruptor, only one of the two available. could be a good reason too.

if you fit an mwd,thermal/kinetic hardner and a lage SB II, where are you gonna put a webber/scrambler. people armor tank it so they can free up some med slots. because you dont have any on most minny ships if you put up a shieldtank

Vag shiedl is 40% Kinetic/ 60% Thermal basicly. Why would you fit more than a Kinetic field? You just run a light tanking wich would give you 75%/60%/70%/60% and a booster. And you have plenty of low for dmg mods.
Well actually this the way i see the thing.

other types have higher resistances on average, and i reckon i need a bit of survivabilety.also, thermal/kinetic are the most used damaga types in pvp, and also not using a 2e hardner will increase the need for usage of the SB, and with one MWD on it i doubt there will be enough cap to run it for long.

I have a Deimos and an Ishtar, and I've been testing various set-ups against NPC battleships spawns.
Read my post again. I only said that the Deimos is not the second or even third best tank, because you will not a.) be able to fit two Medium Repairers b.) or, if you fit lesser guns and no Nos so you can have the dual-rep set-up, you will not have the cap to run it all.
I wasn't comparing it's tanking abilities to the Minmatar ships, just saying that the Sacri, Zealot, and Ishtar can all the fit to tank better, more easily.
The Vagabond (in the right hands) should have a good chance of defeating a Deimos, because it's so much faster and more agile, and has missiles.
Besides, it has four med slots, so if you know you're facing a Deimos: 2 x Gallente ECM + Web + Warp Disruptor = one dead Deimos (although timing here is everything, you need to be able to web but not get webbed your self)

wich is a pointless argument imo, any ship can fit a few racial jammers and take out a ship like that. point is that in a slugfest between the two the vagabond doesnt have the firepower or the longevity in tanking to win. one or two missiles slots, if even used at all wont make a bit of difference.i doubt you'll see a lot of heavy missiles on a vagabond the fitting reqs are kinda high to be squeezed in alongside a gun+shieldtank setup.
the autocannons have range argument doesnt work much either, their optimal is almost as low as blasters, 1k, 1.5km with emp and pp. Yes they have 9-10km fallof true, but a 10km orbit firing auttocannons the damage is like trying to kill an elephant with small pebbles.

Can a Deimos do the same to a Vagabond? No.
Why? Because you need enough slots to both target jam the opponent AND stop him from running, ie. a minimum of four in this case.

perhaps, but noone in their right mind will run around with webber, scrambler and 2 racial jammers. minny tech2 ships utterly suck at armortanking, it's just asking to get yourself killed. and 10 med drones still deal nasty damaga

I quite like Muninn though personally but secretly wish Id trained for a Sacrilege or Deimos

H: 4x 220mm II autos, Med Nos, Heavy Launcher M: MWD II, 2x Multi-racials, ECM burst L:Med. Ar. Rep. II, Cap relay, 2x Gyros II, Track enh.
Just ram into Deimos at full speed. When in close range - burst In this scenario Deimos must warp away (if it has cap to do it).
Humm Maybe I change the launcher for another nos . . .
Ok firstly this is a set up you have in your head and not in reality right ??
The reasons I ask is a) Multispecs will take all your cap in seconds and then, you will die, a LOT. b) and this is where Im not 100% but am pretty sure that an ECM burst is TOTALLY independant to other jammers ie it is strength 8 period. It doesnt matter how many multispecs you are using because they dont interact/stack with Burst. This means you will turn on your two multi's and be jamming for 8, this does nothing and you will be getting pwnd. You will then do your burst and this will jam for 8. Not 16 because it does not stack. You will still be getting pwnd. Then your cap will die, possibly slightly before you do.
Im not sure my understanding of b) is correct but Im thinking I am. Even if Im not the burst will break his lock temporarily at which time you better use those seconds to warp out because your cap is about to die

Use this:
425mm Autocannon II x5 Arbalest Heavy Missile Launcher
Medium Shield Booster II Non-Inertial Ballistic Screen Aug Fleeting Progressive Warp Scrambler Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon Mwd
Now you have 5 lowslots left and 205.5 tf plus 71.75 mw to fill it. 5 Gyro II and thus Deimos like damage, no problem. I don't think you should challenge a Deimos, Raven or Megathron in their close range territory though.
I wish I had trained Minmatar Cruiser 5, I'm stuck with Cerberus or Eagle. Vagabond = most bang for the buck.
hey dude
Have you tried much to hit stuff with Autocannons without a web ?? Its not fun I assure you

I thought Bursts stacked with other ECM, but not with each other?
2 x Burst = -8, not -16 Burst + Multi = -12
Not 100% sure though, never used the buggers.

I think you're right, as busrt jsut disrupt scanners with 8 and less strengh. And ECM decrease scanners strenhgs. So if a scanner drops below 8 beacause of a ECM, then it should be burst-sensitive

If I had internet at home Id check but alas I cant, can you test and let us know as I always beleived it to be totally and utterly independant but as I said Im not sure and thinking about it it would make sense to stack with ECM as effectively after jamming the target would only have 4 strength and the burst would jam him. As I said , Im not really clued up on ECM burst
Anyways that set up has nothing to keep target in place ie scrambler and will have cap issues Im sure so off topic.

edit: ECM works individually, so lowering the sensor str with a multispec before triggering a burst will actually allow you to momentarily break a sensor strength of 12. ----------------------------------------------

aye they do stack together, jammers + bursts. If u had 2 multispecs on then hit him with a burst it would knock the off to the strength of -16. Of course they can instantly relock you thou

With respect to the Deimos taking down battleships solo, the only reason these attackes were successful were due to the fact that most of the pilots were n00bs and there were 2 supporting intys which probably accounted for a surprising amount of damage and held the tackle.
Not to say the Deimos doesnt have a startling dmg output, as is clear from the vids.
A Deimos, another cruiser or HAC and two or three intys = ultimate gank squad.
The reason blasters do so much damage is because they use cap and ammo and have a ludicrously short range.
The reason the deimos pwns is because it has a dmg bonus for the most damage intensive weapon in the game.
I saw one in my rax and ran. As fast as my MWD would carry me.
tbh i dont have much experience of any other HACs, but when i get my Deimos, omgwtfpwnbbq..... |

I fly a vagabond an it is a great ship. However you should follow these to simple rules:
1. Against laserarmed ships - close in for the kill - with just one active thermal hardener you armor is almost impossible to penetrate by lasers (92,5%EM and 88% Thermal resist) 2. Against all others - run away - you got the speed to do it
The vagabond is one of the best ships to take out all amarr ships - but against most others it not that good.

I've lost 3 vagabonds. They are a blast to fly. Most fun ship I've ever flown in this game.
In my opinion you want to kit it out as a tackler and frig/cruiser killer combo. That's the most fun anyway. And then you'll die when you try to tackle a raven :) Or some t2 *** bs :)
The resistances lend themself to shield tanking but that will mean you have to forego the tackling if you wanna do it good. So imho fit a combo of dual 180's and 425's. Heavy launchers or smartbombs against drones is your choice really.
Adjustable tackling (web, warpjam combo according to threat) with a mwd in med slots. Also a med cap battery 2 will help your tank immensely. In the lows you fit a light tank with some gyros.
Just my 2pence.

ECM bursts do infact stack, but they are highly useless as they have limited range and only cancel an existing lock, not prevent one from happening.
I think the devs should abandon the notion that gallente = damage. Minmatar ones are, quite obviously the worst tanks. The Vagabond is close range, and also a shield tank, so it can either -sort of- tank, or fit web and warp scrambler, which is what it needs to do. Poor tank should go hand-in-hand with best damage, or close to it.
The speed is nice, but it shouldn't take up a bonus slot. Which is why the Vagabond should be given 25% more base speed, and then have the velocity bonus replaced with a ROF bonus. Killing two birds with one stone, don't you think?
