I'm going to run some level 4's with a friend for fun. Hes a bit of a younger character, just about to get into battleships.
My alt can fly amarr bs, and just got into amarr command ships. I will have an armor boosting ship with a mindlink in system, so I can skimp on the tank a bit. I also assume my buddy in his BC will be handling frigs. I'm looking for something high dps with a mediocre tank to blow through stuff. Absolution, or amarr bs? Maybe even a legion, although I would like to try something new?
All fitting skills to 5. Medium and large lasers at tech 2. Cap skills maxed. Would like to avoid boosters.
Appreciate the opinions and fits!

Important thing to realize is that, while it can be done, none of the Command ships can match the completion times you can get out of a battleship. You just can't get comparable DPS in a PVE setup.
If you're a strictly Amarr pilot and you want the fastest mission completion times you can get, your best bet is either the Apoc or its t2 and faction variants, the Navy Apoc and Paladin. The Abaddon is also a good choice but requires much more micromanagement of its capacitor.
The only way to set an Absolution up for missioning would mean using Beams, not Pulses, and you end up with crap DPS that way. Unless you can cross train to Caldari or Minmatar and get into their T3s or command ships, its best to stick with battleships for PVE.

I hear ya - the fun part is playing with friends, not running 4's

Navy apoc is probably more than I want to spend, and I can't fly a Paladin quite yet.

its pretty expensive yes, however it is so worth the isk. the extra DPS, lowslot, and capacitor are super handy and itll pay itself off in around 25 or so L4s

Abso sucks. So does the Damnation. So does the Legion.

+1 use a gank fitted Abaddon(2 TCs, T2 Locus Rig, min. 3 HS). ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

I'm an Amarr pilot...100% Love em!!
You said mediocre tank..I'm assuming you arn't gonna be the one tanking this lvl 4 then?
IF that is the case, I have had a sh!t load of fun in an armageddon in lvl 4's. (just make sure you dont do Mimnatar lvl 4's lol....angels have high em/therm resistances)
Here's a quick look at advantages/disadvantages Advantage: IMO, Geddon has the best DPS. U fit tech2 pulses w/ scorch lasers crystals and 3 heat sink II's holy crap is it fun...your average distance is gonna be 40km (not too bad) and your rate of fire is gonna rock...major DPS Disadvantage: Fitting a large armor rep wont be cap stable..unles you do CCC rigs (waste of a geddon) w/ some power relays.
Your best bet is to let someone else tank, and U bring the bullets. fit some scan mods too if you want better range...but You wont need it.
Plus you now have the option to bring heavey drones...Geddon..all the way

It depends of course on the type of mission rats and the missions themselves. Typical blood raider and sansha mission BSs on average like to hang at about 30-45km. Of couse some missions you will land at close range, others you might be waiting for them to approach to that range.
I found an absolution works best with beams in missions, notwithstanding scorch. The ability to hit stuff at range speeds up missions quite a bit, and the tracking on heavy beams shooting multifreak is not that bad for 10km shooting if you fit a tracking computer and/or painter even.
If you get missions against angels or guristas I would suggest either another races BS or getting an Abaddon and fitting it with projectile turrets so that you are not left tickling the rats with em damage.
Any of the BSs though with pulse or beams will probably be better at killing typical amarr space npc BSs than the absolution. The one type of mission where the absolution seems to be a knife through butter and have little worry of the same from the rats are rogue drone missions.
In general all the field command ships could use a buff imo, considering the amount of training that goes into them. |

if you are going to run a fit with almost no tank might as well get an abaddon and go with some tachys
and if you buy a navy ship get the navy geddon, navy apoc is sad pandas

Also: Navy Geddon puts the Navy apoc to shame, especially with T2 sentry drones.

I wont be training for t2 sentries, but I am getting t2 ogres with interfacing 5 in 2 days. Also I wanted to avoid using boosters. I considered a similar fit, but I think it had 3 cap rechargers, 1 tracking comp, 2 ccc, and 1 locus coordinator t2. Cap was rough, but stable if i shut guns down.

T2 hammerheads will do you more good than T2 ogres. Sentries offer instant DPS at 50+km range. You could get faction sentries if you can't use T2, but either way will be an improvement over ogres in terms of applied DPS.
TL;DR: Heavy Drones are for close range brawler pvp ships and battleship duels. Any PVE'er who wishes to have effective ISK/H will use Sentry Drones.

I'll choose a geddon cause of its high cost/performance ratio, probably has the highest. If he or she is flying a BC other than a drake, i'd advise you to tank or split the incoming dps somehow.

If you are doing it for fum, find something fun to fly, this might be a juicy nightmare, or a nimblish legion, CS sits in the middle (at least with minnie). First think of what you want to fly, then check if it will survive l4,s, you'll probably have enough gank to kill stuff, so maybe a bit of focussing might be in order, if you friend uses tachs, you might be interested in higher tracking guns. ------------------------------------- I like to fly around and shoot stuff.
