I was just wondering what is the most popular allround battlecruiser. e.g. if you could have the skills for any battlecruiser, what would it be (regardless of you being PvE or PvP).

Drake by far.
People also like the cane, but you don't hear that much about roaming gangs of those.

Drakes. They are pretty damn forgiving and are very far from an 'unstable element to an already critical situation'

Drake is by far the most popular because it takes the least amount of brainpower to fly.
Massive passive omni tank, choose the damage type you want to deal, profit??
Canes are great for sheer destructive power and speed.
Myrmidon have even bigger tanks than Drakes and can push out way more DPS too.
Harbingers are fun too.

1. Hulk, 17195, 2.47% of characters
2. Drake, 16639, 2.39% of characters
....
8. Hurricane, 7565, 1.09% of characters
That just shows what ppl where logged in when they took the snapshot. Another statistic (which doesn't change much, just makes the Cane more favorable) is who go the most killing blows (p30 in the same economic letter). It can be used to assume the popularity of said ships in combat. Then there is the value destroyed by ships statistic (p 32), where the Drake is on top again.
So in short: Drakes and Hurricanes are the post popular, and this by a very wide margin over any other shiptype for combat purposes.

I personally prefer the cane over the drake.
Its faster.
You can armor tank it.
You can run a gang mod on it without seriously gimping your fit.
But overall the drake is preferred.

That's a good point I managed to miss: the Hurricane is nowhere near as good for PvE.

Also dies faster than a drake because it is always primary.
Doesn't tank well and if you armor tank you lose alot of DPS and speed.

Still significantly better than using the amount of people sitting in a ship at one moment if you want to know its pvp popularity.
I would say personally drake if I could only use that ship for anything, if it was purely for pvp i would take the hurricane.

Drake.
Hurricane is only better in a small gang setting, and only sometimes. I've killed canes with my drake, but if I wanted to run I would be stuck in a drake. Hurricane has the mobility.

Difference = 15%
Despite the popularity of Drakes, they only get 15% more kills than a Hurricane. This is probably due to the blobbing effect of superior numbers, as many 'cane pilots seem to like small gangs.

No it doesnt.Their are reasons that a drake is preferred over an myrm. And while they are less work they are just a better ship in general with a better weapon platform.
I fly two (practical) version of the drake in fleet pvp. Drake ammo: scourge fury, myrm ammo: CNAM
Drake

Version 1(DPS): 525 dps out to 50ish KM , 475ish out to 75km, EHP:88.7k omni, has MWD and a mid slot that can fit a sebo or webber( point wont fit w/o cpu implant)
Version 2(Tank): 477 dps out to 50ish KM, 400 dps out to 75 km, EHP 114.8k or 92k tank depending on if an invuln or scram is fitted, MWD.
Version 3( HAM): 633 DPS @ 18 KM, EHP: 78k , MWD, 24KM point, free ewar slot for web, TP, sebo. OR 63.5k EHP running 2 rigors and sebo in free ewar slot.

Version 3( armor/blaster, no stab):526 dps @ 2.3 km, 62.5k EHP, no repper, mwd + 4 slots for ewar
The mrym is in no way superior to the drake in ability to tank. It can get more dps but at much shorter ranges.

The EHP comparison isn't a fair one in this case, as the 'uber-tanky' myrm fits are generally twin or triple armour reps, not a buffer tank.
That said, the drake is an all-around "better" ship. (But I prefer flying canes)

Lol, another brainwashed lemming.
Its not as good at wormholes. At missions its faster as it has more DPS. Just because a drake can tank 1k omnidamage does not mean you need to in missions.
