Yeah I've removed a portion of the votes from voters who seemed to do mostly dislikes, so ranking may around shift a bit.

hmm.. don't like the 1 to 10 system. too easy for people to just give 1s to everyone they don't like and 10 to people they do to have maximum impact on the rankings (which makes it the same as the binary one, except punishes the people who play honestly...)

While I respect that you are trying to be attentive to everyone's needs. Just stop.
So you removed these things. Now peeps will just vote likes for all the dogs and their chosen main. You can't win or even find a fair solution for the EVE user base. So just find a solution you like and stick to it.

You like the system in which you have a high ranking and not the system you have a low one in?
Hmmm...

Although I do like your site and the attempt to do something fun with the portraits, internet voting is easily manipulated. As many have said, you can simply down-vote to try and bump yours. You can log into the voting site using ANY character and do it over and over again. Removing votes because you feel they are skewed really doesn't solve anything.
It's all in good fun though...kudos for taking the time to put this together and letting us all partake. I really enjoy checking out all of the cool portraits that people have done.

As I didn't enter me, and I did very few votes before I was told they'd all been done, I'd say that I am being penalized for someone else voting with my name. I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happened to :(

Wel as long as enough different people logon and vote the self-bumping effect won't be extremely strong. There's only 350 participants now though, still I don't think the effect has a very major impact, although a tenth or two more or less could be achieved that way.
Although on the other hand, the very low scores on basically everyone - especially compared to the ¦rate the above avatar¦ thread - is quite suspicious. A 6,5 is already good for the top-100, that¦s not very likeley to be the result of honest voting. Effectively that means giving someone 'just' a 7/10 is already "bumping"?! |

I do hate when the forums are wonky. This is my life, for pities sake.
Anyway, I have an interest in this contest, so I've been comparing the scores between the two types of voting.
What I've seen so far, is that for the most part, the scores between the two are fairly comparable. There are some glaring discrepancies that have me scratching my head, though. I guess if you really dedicated yourself you could certainly manipulate the scores over the course of a few days. But having to make all those trial accts just seems not worth the trouble to me. Or voting and deleting the char only to create a new one to vote again? How desperate would you have to be?
I'll give you my thumbs up for this effort, Crystal. I don't think you could do much better.

Actually, I think I'm about done with these threads and sites that claim to have a fair and just system of voting.
I look at the top 100 Females and am really surprised that half of them are there. Guess there's no accounting for taste.
Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder and love may make them blind but one thing is for sure, the neighbors aren't blind.

Also, a nice addition would be if the rankings reset weekly, so new characters have a chance at beating the leaders. However, there should also be a past winners page where you can see who is highest ranked overall throughout the history of the site as well as maybe allow the ability to search previous weeks. So someone can be like "Hey, I was number one once. I'm so sexeh "
:D

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say? I just removed a couple of votes (about 1%) from about 5 users who voted only 1. All the 99% other votes seemed legit more or less.

Ratings have hardly changed so I don't think anyone is afraid of it really.

The average scores are extremely low. I don't even get a 5.5! IRL I'm sure the average person would give someone like Amy at least an 8 and the ones in the top 10 a 8.5 to 10. A 6 should be about average, here a 7 already gets you a 5th spot and a 6 is top-35 out of 350+! The average is a 4.8??
So how am I supposed to vote? Everything prettier than me or with a better more artistic photograph a 6 or 7 and everyone that I think is not as nice a 1 - 5? This way rating someone a 6 is already bumping! I see the average dropping and dropping every hour.
I stop voting this way, a 6 is supposed to mean 'ok'ish'. This isn't funny anymore.

Well, Amy, everyone likes to think they are attractive. And they think everyone else should as well. But we all have different tastes, thank goodness.
Some people just aren't into the all American, big boned, square jawed beauty. Some prefer a more rounded, softer face, some like a little pudgy cheek to set things off and some like a big bold Slavic face to enjoy looking at.
Thus you needn't wonder about your scores or how they compare to anyone else. They are what they are. You should just go ahead and vote as you want and are comfortable with. Never mind what you think others are doing. Be honest. The more that do, will eventually make those that don't an insignificant minority.

I just refuse to vote this way, there's only 50 people voting anyway - of which a number of alts. And you're saying 90% of the avatars are really quite ugly because that's what a lower than 6 means. Well if I look around that's not really something I see as even remotely believable.
I don't really have problems with people's preferences but the votes they give are very urealistic, especially if you compare them with what's given in the "rate avatar" thread.
I'll come back when the average rating is a 6.0.

5 should be average or just about. 5 is definetly not average here, in fact only 1 guy is over 5 and and most girls are under 5. Just goes to show how many people just vote low on others to get their own char up. The other site for all it's problems at least avoids that. Plus voting there is more fun.

Maybe Adivah can show a graph of the decimal voting tally so you can clearly see how many people are down voting. If you see a lot of low numbers than you know what's going on..
Ex. You had 100 votes as a 1 and only 1 vote as a 10. I wonder what that means?

I think the negative votes were edited recently to boost general ratings. They're calling it the "Player-hater focus transfer" system, or PFT!
