how increase in DATA passed through local channel (auto loading of avatars) is considered in your world a NERF?
do you even know what are you talking about?

Since you now autoload the portraits, you won't immediately point the person who just jumped.
Increased DATA passed through local is next to nothing, as they are very small pictures. Opening market screen would probably consume more server power and bandwidth than loading a 200 online Local.
This is a nerf to the insta recognize local omfg cought it tool. Its small but after 6 years, its something.

First all this commit to excellence whine (which i totally agree with) and now this, doesn't it seem kinda counterproductive?

Are you serious? What I am saying is that this thread is going against the "commit to excellence" thread that the majority of (forum-active) EVE players seem to support.
First people whine about CCP having incomplete features in the game (still do). Now they want an incomplete feature back. I honestly do not think that looking at a chat channel where some photos are loaded, while some aren't, gives an impression of polish, more like the opposite.

when you open your web browser do ALL the pages and subpages in the internet load instantly, even thou you wont be interested in content of most of them? or do they load on specific request by clicking on them?
i really dont care about ppls ugly faces (avatars). i prefer them to stay anonymous to me. they are no interest to me. i dont care about them ERGO... i dont wonna load their avatars.
seems like reasonable request... to leave things as they were before for all those years. there is many other things cccp can look into if they have some spare time on their hands. there is no need to mess up something that was working great since 2003.

Yeah great analogy, lets not load anyone in Incarna either because I don't care about them :P Or all those macro hulks, it'd be great not seeing them around.

The only reason it was like that back in 2003 was probably that they couldn't or couldn't be bothered to do it the way it is now, with all portraits loading.

1. The new portraits are downloaded from CCP's CDN (content delivery network), which is entirely separate from the servers used to run the system you're in 2. Each portrait thumbnail weighs between 1kb and 1.5kb 3. Only portrait icons in view get downloaded; if you've got 500 people in local but only 10 visible in your chat window, only those 10 get their portraits loaded until you start scrolling 4. Contacts can be used to make entire alliances navy blue, light blue, gray, orange or red, make use of that and stop complaining about being unable to tell the difference between friendlies and hostiles 5. Adding 'friends', that is, people you personally are friends with, to your watchlist, adds a little green box in addition to their standings, making them easy enough to spot 6. Adding 'enemies', that is, people you personally consider enemies, to your watchlist, adds a little green box in addition to their standings, making them easy enough to spot
I hadn't previously considered how this could be a thinly veiled 'local nerf', since in my mind, it's not, but I'm inclined to now agree that having the option to not load portraits would be nothing but superfluous. --- Sig removed till it's relevant again. |

new faces are ugly. like yours, for example... ppl should be able to block them/not load them. like they were able since 2003...

Edited by: AnonyTerrorNinja on 16/02/2011 22:42:40 Now you're just being plain pathetic and childish. Chances are good that this 'issue' has already been brought to the developers' attention, so there's no need for you to keep bumping this thread. Chances are also good that at some point, someone else is going to bring up the exact same topic, so if the developers haven't seen it yet, they'll see it then.
Instead, you're not contributing anything new to the forum, you're simply bumping a thread for the sake of bumping it. Please stop.
*edit* Additionally:
Quote: Spamming, bumping and pyramid quoting are prohibited.
Spam is defined as the repetitive posting of the same topic or text or nonsensical posts that have no substance and are often designed to annoy other forum users. This includes ôfirstö and ôgo back to <another game>ö posts. Bumping posts in order to keep them near the top of the list is also prohibited. Petitions or "/signed" posts are a version of bumping and likewise are not permitted. Pyramid quoting is a response to a forum thread that contains the quotes of four or more previous posters, sometimes with additional spaces added unnecessarily. Posts of this nature are not conducive to community spirit and are unwelcome.

I've got a suggestion for you. Rather that continuing to bump this dead thread, why not bring this up as an issue with the CSM?
They are, after all, your best way to not only get the bumps and 'signatures' you desire, but will also directly relay your 'issue' to CCP's developers. Other than that, this thread is no longer serving any purpose. --- Sig removed till it's relevant again. |

i dont know what or who CSM is but feel free to contact them and present this issue if you like. i wont mind.
you are saying that this thread no longer serves any purpose? well, let me remind you the 'good' old times when we (the community) had over 100 pages thread which was a response to proposed changes to carriers and motherships by 'GM WonnaBe', dude who clearly didnt know what he was doing. and guess what? 100 pages of whine, cursing and angry opinions worked pretty well. they didnt kill carriers and motherships entirely that day...
...maybe, one day this thread will work as well? who knows...

Ignorance is not an excuse to continue breaking rules that you have been made aware of. Making a thread for your 'issue' is your responsibility, not mine, as you are the one that has this issue, not me.
This thread no longer serves a purpose, as what you want is support, and support is to be gained in the Assembly Hall. This forum category is for discussing ideas, feature requests or issues that players feel need to have something done about them; asking for support is not discussing an issue. This thread has already served its discussion-oriented purpose(s). --- Sig removed till it's relevant again. |

Edited by: mkmin on 23/02/2011 09:54:29 Fully supported, a million times yes.
For myself, I went through and manually locked the cache folder so EVE can't save the thumbnails.
You can do it pretty easily in vista/7, but I'm on XP so had to figure out how to do it.
First, control panel -> folder options -> view -> uncheck simple file sharing Second, \documents and settings\(user)\local settings\Application Data\ccp\eve\(folder eve's installed in)\cache\pictures\characters\chat\ -> delete everything in this folder third, view -> customize -> security -> set all user groups write permission to deny. fourth, be amazed at how much better the client performs
There are a few other places where client performance has dropped with incursions demonstrating that "corification" is **** for performance. For me, most notably in the keyboard shortcuts and the tactical overlay, except in those cases, I can't manually break the client to fix them.
*edit - and I really really hope my manually locking the folder is returning piles and piles of error messages to the CCP servers. We just need to get FC's and alliance leaders to start pushing my workaround and maybe CCP will pay attention.
