By the way, PlayMates can be seen as part of the Eve ecosystem where they are there, for the players. They add the dynamic rather than static elements into the game.
They are the reason why people play online games - the interaction. This is not saying there is no interaction between players now but given the chance, there can definitely be plenty of room for improvements.

If you're talking about adding Playmates, what year/months are you thinking? Some of them look good, some are airbrushed to the point of looking like plastic.

Hi Maken Cheese. I am not talking about PlayMates in the context of those magazines that you are implying.
I am talking about PlayMates as defined at the start of the thread. It is unfortunate that I cannot use the term Game Masters because they already have a role for themselves. --------- Sent from my BlackBerry. |

Adding Playmates would be awesome!! ;) But I doubt YOUR meaning of Playmate matches MY meaning of Playmate...

I think my interpretation would draw more interest, to be honest. But really, using the term Playmates, I don't see how anyone could not think of Playboy. Maybe call them Space Pals or something.

I don't know if my captain's quarters will be big enough to fit 100-200 playmates but i'm willing to give it a shot.

The 'Playmates' idea already exists, as most CCP staff play Eve. The only difference is that you don't know they are CCP employees and they aren't necessarily out to help you. ;-)

If you like the idea of active RP characters, then why don't YOU take that up in this sandbox. I don't remember the corp's name, but there is a corp that gives out paying missions to other players (kill enemies, hual crap, etc.). The reason you are getting quasi trolled here is because there is no need for this. Lots of players RP and add extra content beyond the direct interface experience (of course a lot of us don't want that which is great that no one has to be forced into either crowd).
As far as CCP getting things going for you in game, thats just plain silly. YOU can do whatever you want. "I see people waiting around for hours waiting for PVP." Well, I hope they are happy, because if you are complaining about it and doing nothing then there is nothing anyone can do for you. Find what makes you happy in game and perfect it. Use your head, everyone around is (or is trying) -------------------------------------------------
Don't debate with morons. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience. |

Karl Planck, I am thinking of having PlayMates to play a role in seeding the game with activities. Sometimes, I think most people including me find it difficult to find things to do.
It is always a combination of lack of time, bad timing, not having the right people to play with. I know you would say find a better corp. Sure, that can be done but you will still reach a point when you will wait for a while to do something.
PlayMates is a way of creating more activities to make the world livelier. It is like in some industrial sectors where nobody wants to work in, the only way to bring life in those sectors is to import in workers.
In Eve, PlayMates can be pirates, anti-pirates, haulers who do low and null sec hauling. They seed the world with life. --------- Sent from my BlackBerry. |

Edited by: Ranger 1 on 18/02/2011 22:46:25 To those using the "not in MY sandbox" arguement...
EVE is called a "sandbox" because what you do affects other people... potentially many other people.
That also means that other players, NPC's, environmental factors, and yes CCP sponsored live events can (and do) affect YOU in return (like it or not).
The term "Sandbox", in relation to EVE, does not and has never implied that you will be immune to any of the above factors. ===== The world will not end in 2012, however there will be a serious nerf to Planetary Interaction. |

as one person pointed out earlier, this used to actually be in the game. There were volunteers effectively acting as npcs (different colour font and everything).
I remember going on a few events and they were awesomely fun. you had to guess where an event was and could only find them by looking in the correct RP channels. the players didn't always win, prizes were pretty minimal but it was a laugh.
if you were really lucky a unique event would be scripted for your corp. Our minmatar smuggler corp were offered heaps of money to smuggle vitoc, told em to go the hell.
Cheers, Jasper

It is nice to see that more experienced players also tend to have a similar view as me. I am sure this is a good way forward because it adds to the game.
Plus it makes Eve different than other MMOs. Just tell me how many MMOs have PlayMates or similar in them? --------- Sent from my BlackBerry. |

if CCP did have some sort of thing where any of the devs could randomly come into a system and royally screw with it, like bring an fleet of NPC's in that warp around shooting stuff, it would be interesting fighting it off at least.

tl-dr; OP doesn't want to put any effort into the game. Instead of looking for action / stuff to exploit and enjoying the results of hard work (and sometimes epic failure), he wants it all to be right at his doorstep when he logs in...
BUT! There are already game elements to support these type of players: Linkage

Maybe the OP can buy more Characters and do it themselves.

Sorry, fixes by the way of WoW is not a solution. It does not help Eve players nor expand the game.

Acquiring more characters will not help me. It is about having CCP paid employees to help making the game more fun for all of us.
I do not wish to see CCP / Eve to degenerate because of lack of foresight at the helm and I certainly do not wish CCP / Eve to suffer further due to lack of hindsight in adding what work and what don't. --------- Sent from my BlackBerry. |

These kind of things never work because of player corruption (ie Aurora events team rigged Mothership event).

Well if it was a CCP employee, corruption will be almost 0%. I mean who wants to be fired in real life because of a virtual action in a game. That's why I want CCP paid PlayMates.

I am sure many other members of the playerbase would really like to have this feature. Live event or interactive play. --------- Sent from my BlackBerry. |
