Edited by: Jenny Spitfire on 14/02/2011 23:07:27 Hi. If CCP could hire, say, 100 to 200 dedicated in-game PlayMates (I cannot use the term Game Master because it already has a meaning) to provide non-stop interactive gaming to you, would it make the game more appealing?
The responsibilities of PlayMates would be,
playing Eve non-stop to bring more life and interactivity to the player base through the Eve Online game world.
running story driven events with the community like dedicated teams to role play Amarr/Caldari and Gallente/Minmatar story line to bring in immersion to the player base.
running dedicated teams to act as pirates or Concord to hunt players.
act as current NPCs to interact with players in player driven sovereignity through wars. This is essentially in the current form of NPC attacking 0.0 space.
PlayMates are essentially gamers who are paid by CCP to play with the playerbase so that the gameplay is not only limited to what the current playerbase offers but to fill in the missing elements of the Eve Online world. --------- The making of the new Jenny Spitfire |

You seem to be missing the point of Eve and what draws most of us here. Eve is a Sandbox. There is no story. There is no writer driven theme to push us in a direction. Things like Faction Warfare and Incursions are received poorly by the majority of players for this reason. We don't want it, we like our Sandbox the way it is.
Anything that forces us to do something will be received negatively.
(Also, I don't need a Playmate... or a playdate, We aren't 3 years old..)

Two thoughts:
1. You were the person who wanted to push our monthly fees up to $25 because CCP does not have enough money for development. Now you want to increase costs by paying enough players to have a visible impact a full-time salary?
2. This is a sandbox MMO. Read up on what that means before you try to turn this into a glorified theme park. Please.

Well, sometimes I see posts like waiting for hours to get PVP or not enough people in low sec to gank or cannot find pirates to kill because they are always running and the list gets longer. So I thought if CCP had hired PlayMates to fill up those gaps, would it make a big difference in Eve?
PlayMates job is basically to play with the players in Eve. A Playmate responsibility is to kill when nobody is killing or to be killed when nobody is killed. It is a bit like market makers in the real world to inject fun in the game for the playerbase. --------- The making of the new Jenny Spitfire |

Yes, please don't poo-poo the idea before anyone has had a chance to splurge their mind on the subject.
Even 1 or 2 players with enough resources could do some interesting stuff.

The problem with the sandbox counter argument is you're all so terribly boring and similar. If the few people who know how to RP properly and enjoy doing it were provided positions as regular 'actors' i think it would flesh out the game world nicely.

There are already writers who provide heaps of story material and background ideas. It is up to the player base to do something; we don't need CCP intervention to create this.
Although, I can already see that a number of players will fixate on "ZOMG I CAN HAZ BE PAYED TO PLAY?"

1. Well, it doesn't have to be 25.00. An increase between 17.99 to 19.99 is also fine. Playmates are essentially CCP employees who are paid a salary to play the game and to interact with the playerbase so that subscribers can have fun without having to depend on some reaction from other players in the game.
Playmates fill up the role when the role is not there.
2. You can also have PlayMates in a sandbox MMO. They are essentially extras to bring life to the world. --------- The making of the new Jenny Spitfire |

Oh. And P.S. Hulkageddon. The players are already doing JUST fine on this.

No no no. You have misinterpreted my idea. If there are no good guys in low sec or no attackers in 0.0 then PlayMates provide the seeds by being the good guys or attackers to get the ball going. If there are no pirates in low sec then PlayMates act as pirates for the anti-pirates.
They provide the seeds of fun.
Hulkageddon is more of a targeted harassment towards Hulk owners. PlayMates don't just target a specific player type. They are essentially a part of the game component.
Imagine if there are always PlayMates around and no computer generated players, will it make missions more interesting? Will it make low and 0.0 sec more interesting or fun?
That is essentially what a PlayMate is for. --------- The making of the new Jenny Spitfire |

CCP already tried this years ago and scrapped it due to corruption on the part of the people engaging in the events. Certain members of the team doing the events were leaking the wheres and whens to their buddies so that they could get a leg up.

Actually, thinking about this for a moment, all those players who have reached the point where there is little left for them to do in the game since they've been here from day 1 pretty much and have done all or most of what there is to be done could enlist as lead characters in certain story events. Might give some of them an incentive to get back to playing the game if they could help move the EVE universe along a little bit and act as corporation leaders, major diplomats and such.
There are some possibilities to it. ------------------------------------------------ Quafe is people! |

If players have CHOSEN not to do something; you want to FORCE them to do something. Because you think it will be fun.
Players can create their own seeds.
This is the one game where, no matter your experience or level of input, you can make your own fun.
It does not need another Jenny Spitfire brainfart.

Again, you are misinterpreting me. I am not asking them to be FORCED to do something. I am saying PlayMates can help break the consensual barriers. If a low sec has got pirates and not enough people to kill, PlayMates can provide them with kills or some challenge to them in their act of pirating to liven up the game.
It is different to saying miners want to mine undisturbed in low sec. We then purposely drop PlayMates to harass miners. That is forcing them to do something. The idea of PlayMates if not about forcing. It is an idea of complementing.
Several teams of PlayMates can be tasked with roaming hundreds of systems a day to search for kills or just to be killed to provide the human touch into the game to put in some life.

There will always be bugs in any software. It takes time to fix them. Not adding new features in stunting growth.

This can work but if PlayMates are employed, they have better accountability and credibility.

If PlayMates were to go live, they would definitely need to be thought of carefully. Obviously, they cannot spawn special items out of the air. One idea is that PlayMates are given pocket money to spend on each month to fund their time in game. That fund allows them to buy battleships, cruisers to allow them to carry out their duty in putting life into the game. This avoids corruption where a CCP employee can drop special items on purpose to give advantage to 0.0 entities. In fact, PlayMates could be mandated to use only T1 to T3 items.
Originally by: Kranwe Sentai Posting in a jenny spitfire bandwidth thread. We already have these playmates. Their called sansha incursions.
Sansha incursion is about killing computer players. That may be too easy. PlayMates are interactive. They can taunt you, ambush you and play with you. That is immersion. There is definitely a difference in the two.

CCP Doesn't need to pa people to play the game and interact with others. These people already exist, they are called players. You should try talking to some, you may even find someone to play with. This is a multiplayer game after all. |

So these 100-200 people are meant to fulfill the needs of the average 30,000 people.
I think a) Your posting in the wrong forum area

Features and Ideas Discussion for people who play wow and want to suggest making eve more like it. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=channel&channelID=3523
b) You need to play another game.
c) To your previous post about rise in price per month.... you think CCP wouldn't increase it if they needed to, I mean serious they have a multi million dollar business .... you just play the game.
d) Play mates like so many other thing is a terrible idea, if you want to start up your own self fueled corp that does events do it, don't tell CCP to do it the player base doesn't want them .

Trust me when I say CCP has no intention of making this into WoW or making it into a giant grind like WoW.
I mean next you'll be suggesting that they release multi servers because that would increase the amount of people who can play the game....
