Edited by: CheekyBitOnTheSide on 16/02/2011 07:22:50 Now I want to find one :P.
However are they as tough as the ones in complexes?
such as Terrorist Overlord Inzi Kika
If you've ever had a chance to fight one the results are not pretty alot of the times you have to go and bump them to slow them down as most of the ewar they (and officers) are immune to however I've never tried to neut them, then again neut work on supercaps so maybe.
Personally I welcome the new change and think they should as someone said above apply it to all faction spawns and while they are at it fix the dam loot tables.
Getting 1000 faction iron charges and a tag is getting old fast.
*edit*
Also it'll cut down on marco ratters pretty quick (unless they are in the drone regions no faction spawns there)

the problem is that all the macros will just ignore any belt with an officer and then alert the bot owner that its there so they can go back with a few ships and kill it. it wont do anything to stop bots... unless you give em a point!

Gallente players get out, amirite?
e: also its gonna be p funny when you find an officer but then the spawn warps out in the time it takes you to round up the four other people necessary to kill it. What a stupid change, officers should be soloable by a well-fit BS / T3. Belt ratting is not a group activity.

That could have been a dead Tengu. It could have been 100s of dead Tengus
Originally by: Ephemeron Ratting in 0.0 is one of the few things that small independent entities can do against local alliance wishes. Of course if it's too easy, then even the bots can do it, which is bad. So there needs to be a balance of difficulty, the new difficulty seems ok.

In 4+ years of 0.0 playing I have yet to find an officer spawn. Here's to hoping that when I do I might actually be able to kill it.

officer rats are still pretty easy as long as your in a ship that can tank triple bs from belts.
I killed kaikka in a myrm a few days ago, bigger issue was having the dps to kill it rather than tanking it's damage, but 5 hammerhead 2's got me there in the end. ------------------------------------------------

Except the minor fact that you met an officer before they were "improved".

Originally by: m3rb3aSt No actual player can fit a ship that tanks like an officer. We have a raven, tengu, two ishtars, and a drake shooting it and we are barely scratching its shields. And this is for a kaikka spawn which is one of the weakest ones.
They went from being about as tough as a 1.85m sp BS to being tough enough to warrent dropping a carrier on them.
If that is true, which I kind of doubt that it is, then it's a very bad change.
It means that income from officers is shifted from small entities to large sov holding entities. From individuals to groups. The local alliances already completely dominate moon goo money, and partially dominate high end exploration sites. If officer hunting is taken away from the little guy, it reduces incentive for new guys to enter 0.0 I'm hoping that CCP isn't dumb enough to make that mistake, tho it wouldn't surprise me
anyway, I have yet to see for myself

If you live a nomadic existence in the more hostile regions of space (as some of us do), your chance to make some isk off a decent drop has reduced substantially - "if" the changes are as drastic as some people have stated.
I have had 4 officer spawns in over 4 years of playing and only one was worth what I consider "big money" - and that was peanuts compared to what the plex farmers rake in weekly.
For the most part belt ratting is as boring as mining and I would rather slice my ********* off with a rusty razor than dedicate my entire ingame time to it, but it is something I can do for a steady stream of crappy isk and go emergency afk if I have something that needs attending to in rl (as most of us with kids etc often have to do)
If this is an anti-botting measure, which it certainly looks like, I would suggest that scrambling frigates in each belt would probably be a better counter measure to the botters and let the local real player population slowly kill off their activities rather than the usual CCP pneumatic drill/peanut response to an issue...... |

Please, keep us informed, I will believe you :)
BTW, I am bitter as while doing all various stuff in the game (mostly carebearing) I trained a manticore alt with awesome skills for torps and navigatio and all that, need 3 more days til I was about to use it - and this... my last fkin skill to raise was cloaking IV, all others are V for it, does ~ 550 dps overheated. Pretty nice for a 50m sig radius ship that flies at ~800M/S. Was going to kill rats in guristas space with it, now I will maybe only kill dread guristas :D Was looking forward to officers.

Met an officer a few hours ago, it nearly fried a solo guy, so we got into our carriers and dropped 3 of those on top of him, still took a while to go down.
Gave up 3bil in loot too. They hit very hard now, and have an unholy tank, but with heavily tanked ships and a few thousand dps one will go down in under a minute or two. This was one of the easier officers too.

This is starting to look very disappointing. Another nail in the coffin of solo play and small gang PvP
Officer hunting was my main source of income. Over the years I got about 50 of them. If I can never kill another officer again, this game becomes more pointless to me. I don't, and never will, have carriers or 5+ gangs at my disposal.

Edited by: Airu Naari on 16/02/2011 21:17:43 Edited by: Airu Naari on 16/02/2011 21:10:36 The whole point behind doing this is making people train for caps, trade cap chars, where CCP profits. Capss cost more ISK, thus makes people trade their toons/PLEX/devote their life even more to this game. With those transactions for char trading and PLEX purchase for market sale they win big $$$. It's always about money. There is no casual EVE online anymore (well there IS, but it's even suckier :D). When I was playing back in 2005. it was much different. But, who am I to say something is wrong or right, I just know what suits me and what doesn't. I'll have to adapt.. pfft..

I could definitely see a big increase towards the DPS that officers do but the tank that they have is absurd. Its like the equivalent of a deadspace fit marauder that doesn't run out of cap ever and is immune to most EWAR...

what's weird is that one dude said he managed to kill it with a golem, others said 2 ishtars and maelstrom couldn't kill it, then we have 3 carriers (ok just for safety sake) .. but fraps it ffs!
anyway... CCP work on this a bit more, re think what you did!

I feel your pain. I, too, have spent much of my eve career deployed to one hostile region or another. Sneaking off to some side system to rat is pretty much the only way to make any money while deployed, and the chance of getting an officer was the only thing that made ratting somewhat worthwhile.
What this is is a buff to the super rich who can afford to drop caps / supercaps on the new officers (already our forum is full of "officer killing services" run by the megarich who are offering to kill officers for a "mere" 50% of the drop value) and a buff to anomaly running (better money than belt ratting, scales better, and still has a chance to escalate to a 10/10) and L4 mission botting (probably the best way to make money in EVE).
CCP are simultaneously nerfing the income available to nomads, ***king over newer players who can't afford an army of carrier alts or fly ships capable of tanking anomalies, and buffing the two methods of NPCing that are hardest to disrupt with roaming gangs. All in all, a fantastic idea.

So, you believe me now Imagine getting scrammed by such a behemoth.
Good thing is, I always stay at range when ratting, I wouldn't know if officers scram or not. But they sure hurt like hell.
Anyways, it's more fun now.

What?
Because I hunt officers in pvp setups, I'm able to engage people as I roam around. It means I can look for things to kill while at same time funding my activity with rare loot. Other people do it too, it's a whole way of life for some roamers.

Mebbe I wasn't clear. Just because you *can* use caps to hunt officers, doesn't mean you *should* and certainly doesn't mean you *need* to.
By the logic of the knuckleheads in this thread, a titan will oneshot an officer, therefore you cannot hunt officer spawns without a titan.

e: before someone posts about it, anomaly running is hard to do much about because it generally takes place in systems that are densely populated with hostiles (station systems where if you go for a ratter you have very little time to kill him before 20 of his friends show up). This makes it difficult to kill anything unless you are able to drop them with a blackops bridge / drop gang or titan bridge onto them (usually impossible due to jammers). There are a few reasons for this: if you are running around solo, you don't have the DPS to kill a ratter before people bail him out. If you have a gang big enough to kill the ratter quickly, its hard to get near the anomaly running system without being reported in intel. If you try and AFK a medium-sized group in the ratting system, people are usually unwilling to rat due to the large number of hostiles in local.
L4 mission running, of course, is by far the safest and most reliable way to make isk (you can do it in the safety of highsec on a neutral character at basically zero risk as long as you don't roll around in some ******ed officer fit marauder).
e2: the really funny part is that they're doing this while basically requiring players to grind up isk for supercapitals if they want to stay in 0.0, since normal caps are now nothing but flying coffins that get the privilege of shooting undefended sov structures and dying the second a hotdrop happens and subcaps are literally useless in the kind of lag that occurs during modern fleet fights since weapons refuse to cycle properly and DDs / fighters become the only usable weapons systems. Dear players: please proceed to grind up between 20 and 60 billion isk for your supercaps. By the way, we're taking all the profit out of moon mining (with the exception of Tech, which is 100% nationalized) and reactions and nerfing ratting. Have fun playing our super enjoyable game. Love, CCP.
I love how you think and how you've written this. I used to play from 2005-mid2008 quite actively, then I gave my char to a friend that later sold it blabla. SO i decided to get back into the game and trained up a few chars, made money, sold the chars ot buy better ones and so on, but I don't like where the game is going...
I mean there's already so many things that can kill my fun like those highsec pirates that blow nightmares up on a regular basis when they go on a spree, to lag if you want to participate in something big, I mean there is TONS of stuff, and now, after 8 years CCP decided to make such changes. It's just one thing, but for me it means a lot... if they reverted it, that would be something, maybe we should make a petition.

First, since when has an online petition ever actually affected everything.
Second, Officer loot is worth how many billions? Officers should be as hard to kill as the kind of ship that would fit it's modules, i.e., carriers, super carriers, titans.
Third, I guess your bots broke?

It doesn't even have to change anything, it could serve to see how many people actually want it back to how it was for years. And no, I don't even know where to get those bots, I only got one officer a long long time ago, Draclira. In a Dominix, now I am back to the game and thought I could try hunt some but it doesn't matter. Same as the petition, explaining is useless.
