Then 100s of Tengu farmers could die in their first encounters. I'll try find an officer this week

Edited by: Elzon1 on 15/02/2011 20:06:04 It would be nice if faction spawns got a boost as well since they occur fairly often and typically have a much higher value than regular spawns. As it stands now faction spawns simply mean moar money without much of an increased difficulty.
I should need a logistics ship to rep me in my maelstrom when I encounter one of these spawns. This should be especially true of officer spawns I don't know where, I don't know when... but something awful is going to happen xD |

Just found one in my tengu. I hardly scratched his shields with fury heavy missiles. Damage received was bad enough that I had to warp out.
I changed ships, back in a golem. Slowly, I finally got him, but had to warp out once and wait for my shields to boost back up.
That's how hard they are now.

The true shocker (one in the stink and two in the pink, you know) here is that solo ratters might have to bat phone a friend or alt in a logi or other RR ship.
This tragedy where solo, post-DT ninja ratters might not be able to scoop up all the officer and faction loot is of epic proportions. People will write sonnets, plays and lament the passing of an era of easy ISK.

Don't feel bad. Many pilots, including me, haven't found even one officer spawn. And I've ratted (not chaining) like +2 hours a day in -1.0 truesec system for months. The system was usually empty thanks to my timezone, so there were no competition either. My dear corpmate however has had like 4. All he has to do is to warp to a belt. I may sound bitter but that's because I am.

I'm sure the overall experience will be harder.. that was the point maybe. Occupants of certain nullsec regions won't have a problem bringing their logi alt to help or whatever is necessary, I am sure. However, they are still (according to the Golem pilot that posted earlier) soloable.

Actually that would be a bad idea, as it would only solidify 0.0 alliance control over their territory. It would discourage small scale, encourage blobbing.
Ratting in 0.0 is one of the few things that small independent entities can do against local alliance wishes. Of course if it's too easy, then even the bots can do it, which is bad. So there needs to be a balance of difficulty, the new difficulty seems ok.

If officers are supposed to be pod pilots as well I want to see CCP piloting said officers in ships that would be set up for PVP with all of their mods they drop available and when you kill one you get a KM and their ship follows normal PVP drop rates. Also now that we have incursions officers should pop in high sec and low sec, take a small fleet to drop and warp out if you are not pointing them when they get to low health. Why should the leaders of pirate factions be easy to drop? SCHALAC HAS SPOKEN |

However are they as tough as the ones in complexes?
such as Terrorist Overlord Inzi Kika
If you've ever had a chance to fight one the results are not pretty alot of the times you have to go and bump them to slow them down as most of the ewar they (and officers) are immune to however I've never tried to neut them, then again neut work on supercaps so maybe.
Personally I welcome the new change and think they should as someone said above apply it to all faction spawns and while they are at it fix the dam loot tables.
Getting 1000 faction iron charges and a tag is getting old fast.
*edit*
Also it'll cut down on marco ratters pretty quick (unless they are in the drone regions no faction spawns there)

e: also its gonna be p funny when you find an officer but then the spawn warps out in the time it takes you to round up the four other people necessary to kill it. What a stupid change, officers should be soloable by a well-fit BS / T3. Belt ratting is not a group activity.

officer rats are still pretty easy as long as your in a ship that can tank triple bs from belts.
I killed kaikka in a myrm a few days ago, bigger issue was having the dps to kill it rather than tanking it's damage, but 5 hammerhead 2's got me there in the end. ------------------------------------------------

If that is true, which I kind of doubt that it is, then it's a very bad change.
It means that income from officers is shifted from small entities to large sov holding entities. From individuals to groups. The local alliances already completely dominate moon goo money, and partially dominate high end exploration sites. If officer hunting is taken away from the little guy, it reduces incentive for new guys to enter 0.0 I'm hoping that CCP isn't dumb enough to make that mistake, tho it wouldn't surprise me

If you live a nomadic existence in the more hostile regions of space (as some of us do), your chance to make some isk off a decent drop has reduced substantially - "if" the changes are as drastic as some people have stated.
I have had 4 officer spawns in over 4 years of playing and only one was worth what I consider "big money" - and that was peanuts compared to what the plex farmers rake in weekly.
For the most part belt ratting is as boring as mining and I would rather slice my ********* off with a rusty razor than dedicate my entire ingame time to it, but it is something I can do for a steady stream of crappy isk and go emergency afk if I have something that needs attending to in rl (as most of us with kids etc often have to do)
If this is an anti-botting measure, which it certainly looks like, I would suggest that scrambling frigates in each belt would probably be a better counter measure to the botters and let the local real player population slowly kill off their activities rather than the usual CCP pneumatic drill/peanut response to an issue...... |

BTW, I am bitter as while doing all various stuff in the game (mostly carebearing) I trained a manticore alt with awesome skills for torps and navigatio and all that, need 3 more days til I was about to use it - and this... my last fkin skill to raise was cloaking IV, all others are V for it, does ~ 550 dps overheated. Pretty nice for a 50m sig radius ship that flies at ~800M/S. Was going to kill rats in guristas space with it, now I will maybe only kill dread guristas :D Was looking forward to officers.

Met an officer a few hours ago, it nearly fried a solo guy, so we got into our carriers and dropped 3 of those on top of him, still took a while to go down.
Gave up 3bil in loot too. They hit very hard now, and have an unholy tank, but with heavily tanked ships and a few thousand dps one will go down in under a minute or two. This was one of the easier officers too.

Officer hunting was my main source of income. Over the years I got about 50 of them. If I can never kill another officer again, this game becomes more pointless to me. I don't, and never will, have carriers or 5+ gangs at my disposal.

Capss cost more ISK, thus makes people trade their toons/PLEX/devote their life even more to this game. With those transactions for char trading and PLEX purchase for market sale they win big $$$. It's always about money. There is no casual EVE online anymore (well there IS, but it's even suckier :D). When I was playing back in 2005. it was much different. I feel your pain. I, too, have spent much of my eve career deployed to one hostile region or another. Sneaking off to some side system to rat is pretty much the only way to make any money while deployed, and the chance of getting an officer was the only thing that made ratting somewhat worthwhile.
What this is is a buff to the super rich who can afford to drop caps / supercaps on the new officers (already our forum is full of "officer killing services" run by the megarich who are offering to kill officers for a "mere" 50% of the drop value) and a buff to anomaly running (better money than belt ratting, scales better, and still has a chance to escalate to a 10/10) and L4 mission botting (probably the best way to make money in EVE).
CCP are simultaneously nerfing the income available to nomads, ***king over newer players who can't afford an army of carrier alts or fly ships capable of tanking anomalies, and buffing the two methods of NPCing that are hardest to disrupt with roaming gangs. All in all, a fantastic idea.

What?

Because I hunt officers in pvp setups, I'm able to engage people as I roam around. It means I can look for things to kill while at same time funding my activity with rare loot. Other people do it too, it's a whole way of life for some roamers.

Mebbe I wasn't clear. Just because you *can* use caps to hunt officers, doesn't mean you *should* and certainly doesn't mean you *need* to.
By the logic of the knuckleheads in this thread, a titan will oneshot an officer, therefore you cannot hunt officer spawns without a titan.

All in all, a fantastic idea.
e: before someone posts about it, anomaly running is hard to do much about because it generally takes place in systems that are densely populated with hostiles (station systems where if you go for a ratter you have very little time to kill him before 20 of his friends show up). This makes it difficult to kill anything unless you are able to drop them with a blackops bridge / drop gang or titan bridge onto them (usually impossible due to jammers). There are a few reasons for this: if you are running around solo, you don't have the DPS to kill a ratter before people bail him out. If you have a gang big enough to kill the ratter quickly, its hard to get near the anomaly running system without being reported in intel. If you try and AFK a medium-sized group in the ratting system, people are usually unwilling to rat due to the large number of hostiles in local.
L4 mission running, of course, is by far the safest and most reliable way to make isk (you can do it in the safety of highsec on a neutral character at basically zero risk as long as you don't roll around in some ******ed officer fit marauder).
e2: the really funny part is that they're doing this while basically requiring players to grind up isk for supercapitals if they want to stay in 0.0, since normal caps are now nothing but flying coffins that get the privilege of shooting undefended sov structures and dying the second a hotdrop happens and subcaps are literally useless in the kind of lag that occurs during modern fleet fights since weapons refuse to cycle properly and DDs / fighters become the only usable weapons systems. Dear players: please proceed to grind up between 20 and 60 billion isk for your supercaps. By the way, we're taking all the profit out of moon mining (with the exception of Tech, which is 100% nationalized) and reactions and nerfing ratting. Have fun playing our super enjoyable game. Love, CCP.
I love how you think and how you've written this. I used to play from 2005-mid2008 quite actively, then I gave my char to a friend that later sold it blabla. SO i decided to get back into the game and trained up a few chars, made money, sold the chars ot buy better ones and so on, but I don't like where the game is going...
I mean there's already so many things that can kill my fun like those highsec pirates that blow nightmares up on a regular basis when they go on a spree, to lag if you want to participate in something big, I mean there is TONS of stuff, and now, after 8 years CCP decided to make such changes. It's just one thing, but for me it means a lot... if they reverted it, that would be something, maybe we should make a petition.

First, since when has an online petition ever actually affected everything.
Second, Officer loot is worth how many billions? Officers should be as hard to kill as the kind of ship that would fit it's modules, i.e., carriers, super carriers, titans.
Third, I guess your bots broke?

It doesn't even have to change anything, it could serve to see how many people actually want it back to how it was for years. And no, I don't even know where to get those bots, I only got one officer a long long time ago, Draclira. In a Dominix, now I am back to the game and thought I could try hunt some but it doesn't matter. Same as the petition, explaining is useless.

first day after the patch one corp mate was ratting in a vaga. found brokara and died in 3 seconds. he was pointed and neuted. took 2 mach's and vaga and a drake to take her down. second vaga had to warp away in hull after second hit. i dont want to imagine how chelm is tanking and hitting. for those guys complaining that they found 1 officer in 4 years.... you're doing it wrong. i got brokara twice in a week and in the same day with this new patch my corp mates got brokara and selynne. another guy even got 2 officer spawns 2 hours away from each other in the same system and the funny part is that system has only one belt - guys in venal knows prolly which one.

Except the minor fact that you met an officer before they were "improved".
unless they were improved in incursion 1.2 the no it was after the supposed improvement. and yes he was still easy to kill.

A question: the guys that have fought the 2new" officers have checked the kind of damage they do and the resistance holes or they have kept to the principle "they are of faction X, so they do A and B damage and are weak against A damage"?
The easiest and more logic way to boost them would have been to give them more or less uniform resistances and variable damage in the form of missiles or variable ammunitions for autocannons.

Just took down brokara but lost a cane and an ishtar in the process. he neuts up to 50k now, switches targets about every 30 seconds or so. were able to finally finish him with an ishtar and 2 rr tengus. Best thing to do would be keep range it seems, my sleeper tank tengu went down to 50% shield since brokara turned my hardeners off with his neut. But was able to get the other tengu close enough to rep. I did notice that he had a hell of a shield tank not so much armor and then structure took a while.

I do believe the people that complain about not being able to solo an officer spawn anymore, i'm sure there's plenty of REAL persons who actually rat for the love of it( I used to play Diablo 2, where one of my favourite activities was fishing for items - the same thing bots did).
So please don't take offense when I imagine this scenario: some NPC with his ship fit like DHB Wildcat in his days of glory videos, laughing maniacally as he pops ratters one after the other, until the only way to take him down is hotdropping caps on his ass.
Double the fun if the NPC is actually actively controlled by a GM and loves to **** up someone's so-called lucky day.
I believe that this buff immediately affects botting ravens, probably to the point that the bot ends up with a script telling him to steer clear of the system with the officer in(even though logic dictates it'll just be replaced with a script where the bot sends an SMS to its owner, telling him to bring a gang :( ).
If their spawn rate is increased, there's a chance this will encourage ratters to group more often, possibly encouraging small gangs?
I know sometimes 0.0 feels like everyone and their distant cousin of their ant's nephew with a lovely singing voice is piloting a supercap while frothing at the mouth for kills, but i doubt many people would risk anything bigger than a carrier for such a spawn. And sincer this is Hotdrop Online, whoever brings a carrier brings the plague with him.
But yeah, solo hostile ratters are pretty much ****ed.And i'm not so sure I dislike that.

e: also its gonna be p funny when you find an officer but then the spawn warps out in the time it takes you to round up the four other people necessary to killaving it. What a stupid change, officers should be soloable by a well-fit BS / T3. Belt ratting is not a group activity.
Having done solo sleeper sites in C3s while using drones, I say balderdash. Drones ships can do sites, you just have to micromanage the drones, and you know what? you lose some, just as you expend hybrid ammo, or shoot missiles. It is the cost of doing business. Can you launch a flight of heavies and do fine solo? No not really, but find me a solo fight where you can. In a fleet of two ships, you can much easier launch those heavies with a lot less trouble. ** Warning Signature Detected ** If you need to douche, please do it at home. |

Well I can say I wholeheartedly approve. Now we just need the similar changes to all faction belt rats, give em sleeper AI, make them work with the other rats in their spawn and either give them scrams, or make them smart enough to warp out when they're in structure.
In the past I've been lucky enough to go AFK while mining and return to find that my drones have killed a Shadow Serpentis frigate and now have a fancy pirate implant that's worth more than all the ore I would mine. This shouldn't happen, at the very least it should leave before it dies, and if it's got enough firepower it should kill my drones and then me.

Encountered Tobias yesterday - 4900 damage @ 70km on cynabal mwd on no transversal, 4300 damage @ 70 mwd off high transversal, 3500 damage @ 170km mwd off high transversal.
Took U'K two sleipnirs and a scimitar to kill it, the scimitar had to warp once which forced one of the sleipnirs to warp as well - total time 10 minutes.

Ya so I got tuvan. Tuvan killed a raven, 2 drakes, and a cane before hitting my like 2000dps passive shield ishtar. Then consider the loot tables... tuvan has only 3 good modules out of the like 20 tuvan modules. Because frankly X-type stuff is better. Moreover, NO TUVAN MODULES EVEN DROPPED.
So they have tons of dps where you pretty much have to have 1 of like 3 passive shield tanking ships in order not to die or a capital ship.
So 9/10 legit ratters are newbs who cant do the good anoms. 1/10 are the ratters who ratted for the chance of officers.
So literally here's what has happened.
The 9/10 legit ratters are just going to avoid the **** out of officers. The 1/10 those looking for officers cant solo anymore really... so they have all gone to exploring for complexes.
Bots took some time to adapt. Apparently they autodetect and avoid officers and like convo or evemail the owner of the bot. Who is rich from botting and they drop a nyx on the officer.
In the end. Supply is going dry and when the giant supplies clean up. Eventually the only people really making any isk from officers will be bots. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe.

I had 2 officers since the patch and talked to someone who had Estamel
The Estamel was killed with stealth bomber + Ishtar combo. I killed my officers with Damnation + Kronos combo, which was overkill
Basically, officers can be killed with 2 people, especially if 1 of them is buffer tanking battlecruiser or less. The trick is to get right on top of it first, as at close range with some traverse, the officer damage is reduced significantly. Cap injector is pretty much a must if you got active tank and weapons.
Officer does about 1200 damage and uses 3 heavy neuts, with long range web. Officer tank is maybe 500, so with 800 dps it can be broken (with 2 ships that 400 dps each, which is reasonable).
Officers don't warp scramble, so as long as you stay aligned you can always escape safely. Only stupid people will lose a ship to an officer

>Brokara Ryver lightly hits you, doing 546.5 damage. >Brokara Ryver hits you, doing 764.8 damage. >Brokara Ryver aims well at you, inflicting 907.8 damage. >Paradise Cruise Missile belonging to True Power hits you, doing 10.8 damage.
her neut range is at least 30km,web at least 12km range
i`m wondering, are all the officers the same in terms of dps done/dps tanked/neut range? or are there "harder" ones than this? would appreciate if anyone else who encountered one would check the logs

Necro whine thread lives!
FWIW, the officers I've seen since "the change" do seem to have sleeper AI (change targets, like to pick off drones and smaller ships) and sleeper-like omni-shield tanks, they neut, they do quite a bit more damage, and I have no idea if they point you or not - I don't get that close for very long.
They are soloable if you can think outside the box of "warp in, turn on tank, spam missiles". ___________________________________

I ran into one of the lower level ones and the tank on him wasn't very good (taken down by a flight of heavy IIs, but he did switch targets between me and my logi alt). Hopefully, the higher level ones are tougher, cause what I fought would be no problem for a bot raven.
