a friend and i want to work on the same missions, and get them done quicker...
Can this even be done? can we both do the same mission at the same time and get the same objective and send it in??
I know you need to create a fleet, but is there a way to both accept the mission? or how does that work? if it all?

The person who has the standings gets the mission, then you do the mission (alone or together) then when handing in, make sure that you're fleeted and a box comes up giving the option to share the rewards.

ah i see, which would just split the rewards in half but would not allow both to complete the mission

Kind of. 60% of the reason to do missions is to increase standings with that corp/your faction/whatever. You both get the standings increases (and decreases).
Generally the point of doing missions together is to take on harder missions faster. Some three-week character in a cruiser isn't going to be able to even look at a level 4 mission without exploding, but he can cut the time it takes for someone in a t1 battleship to finish a level 4 in half or better. So there's incentive for both players -- battleship guy nets more isk because he can run more than twice the missions in the same time (even if the reward is cut in half) and cruiser guy has incentive because the rewards are good and the faction gain is gigantic for a low-faction character.
Even if you're not getting a net increase in income, there's also the "PvE is deadly boring" aspect, having someone else along to talk to without distracting you (because they respond to the same stimuli you do in the mission) is helpful for "not losing a ship to falling asleep". ---

I run missions with my alt almost 100% of time. I pop the mission rats and he salvages. Both split the agent reward, loyalty points and bounty. Unfortunately only the person pulling the mission gets the mission counted towards the 16 needed for a storyline. Storylines give no LP but they do add to faction standings and only the person getting the storyline gets those.

Quick update. To run them together join fleet together. Then have the person who accepted the mission warp to the mission space and then the second person warps to fleet member. Now your both there and ready to run.
P.S. If you are gonna run missions together all the time train the leadership skills. They add to targeting speed, target range, shield strength, armor strength and agility and can add a big advantage.

Also train the Social skills to increase the rewards and standing gain you receive for each mission as well as increasing your effective standing so that you can get access to higher level missions that bit quicker. ------------------------------------------------ Quafe is people! |

And have one of you train a few Leadership skills for (almost) free boosts when grouped (and in the same system) to stuff like armor, shields and agility.

I know you need to create a fleet, but is there a way to both accept the mission? or how does that work? if it all?
Many ways to do this. One way I prefer is this, My main account (this one atm) and my alt account fleet up. One of my friends (be it IRL, or not) is on and we are both doing level 2's. My alt account is sitting in station, my main account blasts through level 2's in my caracel (ib4 lol caracel, its a awesome mission ship for me) and my friend does a seprate level two.
We both complete them fairly fast, we both choose different factions to mission for.
What this does is two fold. Two missions completed at the same time, for two factions. 2X the rewards, 2X the standing gain.
Or, you can fleet up, and who ever has the mission goes to the encounter. You can do this by fleet warp, or by him/her warping to encounter, then you warp to 0 on them. You can do a mission with more than one person this way.
Now unless you are running level 4's I think it faster to split and do two separate missions at a time and split the reward, if you run in to trouble you can call for back up. each person using agents close to the other person helps.
