The new character creator looks fabulous, but I'm not impressed with the narrowness of choices to shape your character. Why can't we have super-fat slobs or super-thin rat-faced characters? Why do we all have to look like we've been yanked from a bad teenage sitcom pretty-fest? Why do the Brutor get the choice of an Elvis haircut, but not a Afro Samurai afro? Acne scars are not cool, knife scars are. How about some weapons, swords, guns etc. Only 9 types of t-shirts in the entire universe? Where the hell have my tattoos got to dammit!
There are some options to rough up your character and make them look somewhat bad-ass, but not enough.
Please CCP, don't turn Eve into Beverley Hills 90210 in space.
Do you think CCP could improve the character creator? How?

Now Im reminded of that recent sci fi with Bruce Willis where everybody walked around in the perfect avatar body while their fat slob real bodies stayed at home jacked into a computer.

I'm just happy I was able to replicate my actual face. I showed my toon to my folks, and they asked how I got my photo in a videogame.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the best char creator invented to date.

How about providing some links to these other threads instead of just counter-ranting.
I have provided my suggestions for improvements so my post is not entirely negative.
Are they going to allow all players to access these future improvements when they are introduced? If not, they're going to be useless to me if my character is locked in with the current choices.

Super fat slobs?
You are a constantly monitored and maintained clone that gets replaced with a brand new one every time you die, when exactly do you have time to get fat?
"OMG, i can't choose what ship type i get to have from the character creation menu, only get stuck with the noob ship!" /sarcasm off
Seriously? Cos that's the equivalent to what your saying.
The incarna expansion is going to enable entire new markets to be built with the in avatar based world. Why would ccp limit the market options by allowing you to pick them all at character creation?

So why are we allowed acne scars and aging options - kind of redundant if our clone's are being replaced constantly? Why not allow us to redo our avatar every time we get podded?
The character creator is there to establish identity within the game. I'm saying that our choices when crafting our identity are restrictive. If anything, clone technology should facilitate wildly varying body shapes, not the other way around.

Yup, I'm pretty fed up of seeing the same faces I see on my daily commute to work here in game (be it on the tube or on an ad poster).
Where are my posthuman immortal demigods thousands and thousands of years in mankinds future after millenia of cultural and genetic segregation from cultures and civilisations that bear only the slimmest of resemblances to the present?

Agreed! The cc has great potential as a piece of technology but for example simply letting us push the weight modifier much farther would do wonders to make it even better. I doubt its going to happen though. :( More options mean more ways to create an individual avatar. There would be no downsides for anyone so I don't see why people are opposed to it. Sandbox etc.
At least we'll get tatoos and stuff though so that's something. --

In my days we didn't have no damn character creators. We grabbed a woman and made 'em ourselves like men AND WE LIKED IT! Of course, it took a number of years to get them ready to fly ships, but that's why we made lots of 'em in case some came out stupid.

So what if CCP's reality has us eventually all becoming so-called "perfect" looking?
This could be from advanced technology in the field of DNA and so forth. (or a variety of other reasons)
EVE is simply CCP's vision/version of the future. If you don't like it, well then go make your own fictional universe of the future.

Both scars and ageing are easily accomplished with the cloning process and can marks of pride for many people. Producing obese clones likely to die of a heart attack at the first stressful situation (controlling and entire space ship with your mind is rather stressful)) would not be very cost effective. Think it can be pretty much assumed that capusleers need to be in good physical and mental condition in order to operate the pods.

Edited by: Professor Tarantula on 18/02/2011 14:32:01 Capsuleers aren't stuffing food in their mouth every waking hour out of boredom, but there should be people in stations who are obese, and maybe even the option for capsuleers to grow fat from lives of excess in stations. Kind of like that Futurama episode where Bender got a human body.

I have to agree the new character creator looks great, but there's more to a character than looking great.
My old avatar looked like a strung out drug addict who'd just been caught checking out the local school yard, and that's the look I wanted. Someone you don't trust. Someone you instinctively don't like. Someone you'd expect to stab you in the back over a half smoked cigarette. Someone who can probably find whatever it is that you want regardless of legality, morality, or price.
The new avatars look much more realistic where the old ones were more of a cartoon, but it was easier to give the old ones character. Beyond the limited accessories, I almost have to wonderą Since I'm an engineer rather than an artist, does the new system simply provide tools that I lack the skills and talent to use?

Do you think CCP could improve the character creator? How?
Well of course not all of the features that will be in the final version are in yet, things are coming out in stages so we will get tattoos and scars and the like later, im somewhat glad that the freedom to make ******edly rediculus looking characters with floresent pink hair is not there otherwise it would just break the feel of the game but i do feel some larger form of character diversity is needed at the same time while not going over the top , i also understand the need for distinction between the different eraces of EVE to the point you should be able to tell them apart, but at the moment as it stands i can only seem to look like osme old geezer at the moment which is somewhat silly and unwanted or at least by me.
