If CCP is smart they will deliver Dust as a console version of battlefield 2 based on EVE universe and Tbh after spent years playing quake series, Half-Life, counter strike, Battle field and such i can see the game may rock, not only because it will give unlockable advantages if you keep playing in the long term but mostly because unlike most of the previous games, you will not be facing a random series of maps without other purpouse than win the game, but a whole campaign which outcome actually matters.

Quote: Sorry, not unadulterated truth. More like unadulterated bovine fecal matter and a dose of daddy bags. Dominion was not done because of Dust, Captains Quarters are not because of Dust. This guy is speaking from his rectum and clearly has zero idea what EVE is about or what CCP has had planned since the original inception of the game. From the very beginning EVE was destined to become a complete sci-fi universe, and NOT just internet spaceships. CCP have stated that as fact, time and time again, but for some reason people like that idiot don't listen. They think THEY know what EVE is meant to be and where it should be heading, and the second it looks like deviating from that course they begin screaming that "The sky is falling omfg EVE is dying omfg guis".
There is not a single person here who knows for sure what CCP are doing, and where things are heading with regards to future changes. None of us knows CCP's financial status or whether they have sufficient funding and backing to properly market Dust514, but it should be clear to most intelligent people that a company of CCP's size and standing would NOT be risking the release of an IP like Dust514 unless they were pretty damn certain they knew it would work. Remember folks, these are the same people that started CCP and developed EVE from scratch, they know their market and they know what it takes.
So get off your high horses, stop spouting theory as fact and stop acting like you and your ideas are the only ones that have merit. Dust514 is coming like it or not, Incarna is coming like it or not. These are things you are going to have to get used to, or you could always just leave.

What crap! Leave your head down the toilet? Who are you? Shigeru Miyamoto? I have been playing Eve for 3 years now, solidly, with 50m SP across 2 chars to show for it. Also, I was a hardcore console FPS player. I have been owning players ingame for 16 years, since the heady days of Rare and 'Goldeneye' thru Halo, Battlefield....etc etc. My friend is the same, and so is his friend, and his friend....your statement sir, is dumb, to say the least. As for Dust...I imagine Dust to be a live and rolling enviroment that you log into much like Eve. Try to imagine an FPS with no lobbies and no matches, instead a realtime FPS universe where 24hrs are 24hrs and the match never ends. You log in and log out but the game/universe never, never, stops. Except mebe for a downtime of somesort

Only +10? Surely was worth more. Especially the point in seeing the Big Picture(TM) as CCP has stated it time and again. Dust is very logical in that concept, so is Incarna.

if ccp are making a complete syfi universe what else are they going to implement? i would imagine they would expand walking in stations to walking on planets. making as many potential careers for someone on the ground as there is for pilots in space.

Originally by: Eastman Color I'm still not convinced that console FPS players have the attention span for anything that ties into eve.
The idea is nice, gimicy and something that made me go "ooh that's co..... look something else"
Clearly I need to clarify that by "console FPS players" I mean "the average console FPS player that I've met in my travels", yes there are some that will grab the game and get stuck into it with an insatiable loyalty
But CCP are going to have a hard time keeping the average FPS players attention when CoD5, BF4, whatever comes out.
The general trend I've seen with FPS's is that one will come out every 3-5 and set the tone for the market as all the other marketing\development department scramble to clone\loosely copy that idea.
If you chuck up a stack of screenshots from say Killzone 3, Modern Warfare 2 and Medal of Honor at a quick glimpse I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.
From the limited amount of things I've heard so far about dust, there doesn't seem to be that much difference to other games, at face value that is, yes it ties into a bigger universe, yes hired by eve players blah blah blah but the actual core still seems to be "run capture flag" or "ticker based combat" and with games like bulletstorm, that seem to be injecting some much needed comedy into the genre, on the shelves it'll be interesting to see what happens.
Finally, This whole "we've always wanted EVE to be a sci-fi simulator" thing is only something that I remember hearing about in recent history. I've been playing eve for about 6 years and it's only in the past 2 that I've heard anything about this "final plan" and to me it smells like marketing hyperbload... yes yes yes tin foil hats.
I would like to see someone map out references to it on a time line though, just for interests.
Like it or not, eve has reached the "big business" stage so more and more of the game is going to be dictated by marketing and PR rather than "original dream" and original dream I suspect may well be thrown in with whatever new content appears as a "we always wanted to do that.... honest".
Personally big business saddens me more often than not because quality takes a back seat to numbers where as they should look at it another way, like a bathroom fitter I know.
He approaches ever job as though he's doing his own house, he takes his time, he does a phenomenal job on every project he does, if he takes longer than he says then so be it, he never skimps on quality. Because of this, he's booked solidly for the next 2 years, even to the extent that he's upped his prices, in some cases trippeling them compared to others in the area and still people will wait for him and pay the extra.
Why?

To the guy who thinks all this new crap being rushed out so they can release DUST is somehow unrelated to DUST.....
I suggest you read some of what CCP has said about how they planned to approach this release.
It's just fact, sorry, it's ugly and horrible for us players but it's the plan the CCP is executing.
Doesn't require your belief.

Dust is for the next generation. Its new territory. New market. They have the money. They will use it strategically and a lot will depend on good reviews and word of mouth. Eve is a cerebral game which skews towards older players who will invest time and money. Dust does not need to be a blockbuster. It just needs a steady year over year increase much like eve developed.
This is going to be for a younger pvp audience and what CCP is trying to do is build an alt revenue stream which brings them into line with the current generation of players. The PVP has to be strong enough and the rules simple enough for this crowd. Eve is known as a cut throat pvp. There are many organized clans throughout the world that welcome the amoral play style but not the learning curve.
Its not intended to kill WoW nor are they expecting Eve players to migrate en masse. What they want is new subscription revenue that will sustain emergence into a cross platform gaming environment and allow them to move forward with new technology.
I don't really understand all the emotion around this. But as a business decision it is sound. They don't need a perfect product either. It just needs to be engaging at the onset.

Name one FPS which has shown growth beyond 12 months from release.

Before he does that, name one console FPS that was designed to grow steadily over time.

People who claim Dust has to go up against CoD or whatever the FOTM in console-FPS is implicate that Eve, to be considered successful, would need to go up against WoW or whatever the FOTM in PC-MMORPG is. In reality CCP always seems to aim for a small crowd of the market and goes from there..
