I currently run missions against Kinetic/Thermal type enemies. I'm looking to purchase a pirate BS to speed through these missions as fast as possible. I've narrowed it down to between the Nightmare and the Machariel, but I can't decide. Was hoping people that have flown them or know a bit more about them than I do could help me out. Looking for their strengths/weaknesses, and if either is particularly suited to those missions.
I currently have even skills across the two, but only T1 guns for the Nightmare until I skill up T2s in about two months.

The kin/therm rats are hard-tanked against EM. Use a Macherial with phased plasma.

serps go down easy enough to em/lasers, its gurista and angels that are the toughest to kill with lasers i think.
I should still mention that i have flown both alot in missions, and the mach is simply alot better in gank mode, tank mode the nightmare wins however keep in mind dead rats dont do damage......
go mach!

Machariel with 800mm AC and Phased Plasma L is your new best friend.

The high Thermal of the closer range crystals don't make the Nightmare completely useless against Angels and what not, also works very well against Merc hulls that look like Angel rats. At longer ranges you will still pop most cruiser and frig hulls in 1-2 shots no matter what.

IIRC, Guristas rats have an annoyingly high EM resistance but their thermal resistance is low enough that Gurstas rats aren't too bad. The nightmare can easily insta-pop most frigates at 40-50km with MF crystals while taking out dire pith cruisers in 4-5 volleys.
Angel rats, however, have EM resistances almost as high, giggle at thermal damage (seriously, thermal seems to be the worst damage type to use against Angels), and love to get in so close that tachyons have issues hitting battleships for full damage.
Overall Angel and Guristas rats take more shots to down than Sansha or even Serpentis, but it's not all that bad if they don't get too close.
Personally, I'd say machariel for Serpentis rats due to sensor dampeners, nightmare for EoM and perhaps Mordus due to range and resistances (not 100% sure that Mordus aren't Caldari/Guristas clones), and it's a flat out tossup on Guristas.
Guristas are a tossup simply because the nightmare has better range and sensor strength (marginally) while the machariel can deliver better "type on target" (so to speak) DPS. While the machariel does have great falloff I've noticed that the DPS difference between 15km and 35km can be pretty big so you'll potentially spend less time doing "optimal" damage to them, even if your optimal damage output is greater than that of the nightmare.

Edited by: freshspree on 26/02/2011 08:04:23 Get a mach if you face those guys mostly. Mach will kill serp/mordu faster but it's doesn't deliver instant dps as you have to get in close. Whichever way you see it, shooting from 35km+ is a bad idea and waste of ammo on a mach in most cases. Unless you are sniping frigs.
