It doesn't matter for how many years I've played Eve (since beta 6 in fact), I will always be a noob.
Discuss....
(Context: I've been doing something super-dumb on my fitting for years and only realised half an hour ago...involving modulated deep core strip miners II's).

Maybe it's because you don't take the game too seriously, rather just a pure recreation and play when you are bored? I'm just assuming all this :)
Anyone can learn things or do things, it just depends whether you have the interest for learning pvp, industry facts etc.
BTW, share the whole story? Otherwise, there's not much to discuss, but everyone has done dumb things in EVE from time to time.

You're right, I don't read enough about the game :p.
I've been using modulated deep core strip mining lasers on my rigs for years, assuming the mining amount was the same as the ordinary strip mining lasers, and without checking. It was only when I saw a screenshot of someone else's mining stats, at over 1600, that I realised my setup was *******.
But in general, other people must have forehead slapping moments in Eve? Not just dumb indy characters.

Hey you are never too old to have 'noob moments'. I did missions off and on for two years before I discovered you could invite yourself to a fleet (a fleet of just you) so you could use tags on trigger ships... dohhhhhh...
Only feel semi-bad about it though, whenever I mention it in chat there are always one or two people who say 'WHAT? REALLY!?!?'.

Quite frankly, I am always amazed when I reach the destination and find the item in my cargo. Heh.

Tags were broken anyway and likely still are, so you haven't lost anything significant. And no a fleet of just one isn't a fleet since you have one to command but you're self so no bonuses, use an alt.

Manual warping is much better. It makes a huge difference with travel time especially with the slower ships.
Only Auto-pilot if your will be AFK or busy with something else. And make sure you do it in High Sec

I had a noobie moment a couple of weeks ago.
I was doing some level 4's for standings and was in the middle of a particularly juicy Drone mission when I managed to get my Raven blown up after one of them warp scrambled me without me noticing.
So off I fly, buy a new Raven and fit it back to my mission running fit, plus a couple of WCS just in case. Resume the mission, and as I fly past my old wreck I peek inside and see that most of the modules survived.
So instead of grabbing them there and then I think 'Oh that's cool, I'll come and grab it all in the Noctis when I've finished.' I go on, finish the mission, warp to the station and turn the mission in.
Swap into the Noctis, undock and prepare to warp to where I left all the wrecks...
And then realise that this is the one time I didn't BM one of the wrecks to warp to!
Cue frantic warping around looking at dscan, seeing all the wrecks I'd lost with no way of reaching them....

That's gotta hurt. Can you use scan probes on wrecks? (that's another thing I don't know...). btw, what's with the stabs? Just kill the frigs first.

I'll always be a noob. Mostly because I'm a casual player and only play to have fun. Not to conquer the universe or make geeks cry by scamming them or blowing up their internet spaceships.
I find myself looking up acronyms or words all the time that I see in chat and am too embarrassed to ask about because I know I'll get laughed at for not knowing lol You died at the fittings screen, you just hand't realized it yet - Mr. Cue |

Nope, can't scan for wrecks with probes.. I even tried laying down combat probes just in case one of my drones survived, with no luck. I fitted WCS as I still had a load of frigs to deal with, stupid drones triggered aggro on everything when I sent them out to kill the frigs, and everything was clustered around the warp in point, so I thought better safe than sorry lol

I've done this though it was only 5 jumps. Thankfully I didn't forget the cargo on the second trip once I took the mission. ---- --- ---

at some point i lost my ship and only got it halfway fit up before logging for the night. when i log in the next day i dont even think about and undock ready for the some pvp ....
another time after being blown up but not podded i got to the nearest station, got a ship and proceeded to head back home - only i didn't bother to check that the route back home included the system i was just killed in, resulting in two drakes being lost within like 10 minutes.
and of course there is not having my overview set correctly and podding the blue that happened to have a low security rating.
