Something like that happened to me in Aridia. I had rewarp bms for that gate and my usual covop fit can survive 2-3 smartbomb bs. I used neither.

What happens in Rancer that gets you podded? I haven't been through there since 2004 :p.

Manual warping is much better. It makes a huge difference with travel time especially with the slower ships.
Only Auto-pilot if your will be AFK or busy with something else. And make sure you do it in High Sec
The only time I auto-pilot is when I have to cook dinner. Yes High Sec only!
Don't you have Minmatar slaves for that? I can sell you some if you like..? They do a mean spag bol, the mince is slaver hound I'm afraid but its still pretty good.
Edit:
I felt like a noob recently. After coming back from a year break I lost 3 or 4 anathema's to various gate camps in a row, and I couldn't understand why.. They really got their gate camping down to a fine art since I last played.

It was soooo much harder NOT to be a noob when the game started, you had hundreds (barly thousands) of poeple flying about with no clue what they were doing, with hardly anyone who know anything more!
These days in game and the forums are teaming with helpful people who know their stuff, its certinly massivly easier to find the info you want and combat the newbiness.

It's embarrassing to have to ask you see. Everyone's an expert, but nobody seems to know anything...
Anyway these are Rumsfeldian "unknown unknowns", i.e. things you don't know you don't know :p.

I've done this so many times:
1. Buy stuff. 2. See it in items or deliveries. 3. Undock. 4. Travel 25 jumps. 5. Dock. 6. Check cargohold and wonder why it is empty. 7. Bang head on desk because you did 25 jumps in a freighter, and have to go back, so another 50 jumps.

Pff, courier missions. I jumped highsec -> delve -> highsec in a rhea with empty cargo, because I forgot to take the stuff with me..
Back then, that was over 40m isk in fuel cost.

I beat myself up over lame stuff I do all the time. Like that half second late overloaded mod, or that wrong orbit I did.
But we learn from it at least. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't feel so bad now :) Though I know what it feels like to forget cargo in a Freighter after 20+ jumps :(

I played for almost 2 years before I realized that a Damage Control was active and I had to click on it for it to work. I always thought it was passive.
And I rarely ask questions after asking and being told I was a stupid piece of shi*.
Show fits? Never. All you will hear is "Noob", "Fail", or no matter what you are flying, I means anything, some one will usually tell you to fly someting else. (Get a Drake)...

Only a week ago did I realize that instead of bolting the way thru 0.0 for a gazillion jumps dodging bullets. I could change my medical clone to any station my corporation has OFFICE in (always thought it was stations I had visited only).
Meaning I self-destructed into deep 0.0, setup a jumpclone and self-destructed back to empire in less then 5 minutes. Old way, fly manuall avoiding camp systems, wait out roams/camps est. 5 hours two ways.
Doh. (Cost some Isk in double Clone upgrade tho, but hell it was worth it) ---

This is actually the same concept as what I just did: turned oven on in kitchen, set timer and then went to watch TV. When timer went off, returned to kitchen and opened the oven to find I hadn't put pizza in.

Plenty of "permanoobs" in Eve...first corp I was in there was a guy with about 70mil sp (his own character not brought) and he flew around in arty vagabonds and we would have to beg him to fit a mwd/point because his standard fit for most ships was all his slots filled with tank mods (both armor and shield). It wasn't so bad though because the rest of the guys were decent pvpers and that guy would spend most of his time ratting or mining. He was from Tasmania, I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

BWAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA!

Another example, from the other day: I didn't realise before you could move all of ur scan probes at the same time by pressing the shift key. Been giving myself RSI all this time........
YOU CAN WHAT?!?!
WHY DID CCP NOT TELL US THIS :<
It's not like the others feature are well documented either, or in many cases documented at all... That's why we have world of mouth and old wives tales (you still hear "I won't shoot you because if I do your gang can kill me" for example)

No no no you ain't the noob of noobs.
For years I would think that modules I could not right-click and sell were junk. So I would reprocess them.
Lots of faction modules, some deadspace....
It was only a couple of years ago I realized.. oh!... (crap!).
And I was wondering why I never got those things.

It took a months until I realized that when running missions, fitting your ship only with what rats drop isn't a good idea... Also: not making use of ship bonuses, like not training Destroyers beyond level 1.
Reading through this topic, the following picture came to my mind: learning curves of various MMOs. Although, I don't think this is quite right: there should be a continuous ascending slope after the cliff. |
